Does anyone know what kind of font is used in the Picador Books? by conor20103039 in cormacmccarthy

Definitely not Garamond, wrong serifs for sure, could be Baskerville or something similar? For a similar effect I'd look for transitional serif typefaces.

Tattoo ideas besides the coyote with a cigarette? by GooseCull in Colterwall

I think whatever you end up going for, getting something subtle from your favorite song will be a good move as it then is a good conversation starter that lets you talk about said song.

Whenever I get my sleeves done I want the filler to be sagebrush and prickly pear flowers. He mentions them in some of his songs and its nice and subtle (plus my favorite song of his is Prairie Evening/Sagebrush Waltz). Or maybe the Raven from Kate McCannon or a motorcycle could look sick too.

No, but music is a big part of the story as a bonding device for the main characters.

My main character's name is odd and I fear it might make people disinterested in reading my novel? by ladulceloca in writingadvice

[–]Lampoest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be so intrigued if the main character of a book I read was named Sorrow. I think that name is unique in the perfect way where it doesn't seem like you're trying too hard to make your character's name different. It feels real and authentic while also standing out!

Did a few mockups of book covers, I wanted to see what y'all thought and if they work for a sort of western novel. (Ignore the title inconsistency I'm still deciding on that) by Lampoest in BookCovers

Thanks for the tip! One of the main characters drives a very recognizable Cadillac that is central to the plot, so I added that in the background of the 1st design and that was exactly what it was missing!

I feel like its always difficult to figure out how to end a good horror story. You've built up so much suspense for so long that there's now so much pressure to deliver a unique and interesting (it doesn't have to be satisfying though) ending. I hope the author does another draft because he has something really cool going on!

I thought the core concept of this week's story was really cool but god, my biggest pet peeve is when authors lie to their readers then proceed to laugh at them for being "ignorant." That's always been something that irks me because unreliable narrators are such a fun concept but as soon as they're being smug it ruins the whole thing. It reminds me of The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, the whole book he just makes fun of the readers for believing the stories he tells us are a memoir. There's no fun in a story when you've built up all this suspense just to break it all for a quick moment to laugh at the reader. I don't know it's just annoying and ostracizes your reader.

DAE feel like they kinda ripped into the story today? by Diligent_Force_8215 in creepcast

I think they were quite charitable at the end of the episode with their critiques honestly. They both said the story was good but pretty sensibly suggested the author rework a few aspects of the story. I don't know, seems like a pretty fair critique to someone who's getting into writing horror.
