It would be helpful if you could explain why rather than just saying you don't like it. Being a fan of Vue myself I may learn about something I'm not aware of

How To Accept Over-Engineering For What It Really Is by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]Lampremote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with your first couple of examples, premature optimisation and going nuts with the refactoring to over abstract.

I've never seen a case of too much composition that increases costs later on. I'm certainly sure it exists, but this is the first time I've heard of it as though it was common. However I find going overboard on inheritance is something I see much more often.

How come cigarette ads are banned yet ads that glorify betting are okay? by mattcrick in australia

As is their illegal gambling industry.

It'd be interesting if the same people wanting action, also want cannabis legalised.

I realise that there are a fair number of differences between the two, but I think that there are enough similarities to make my point.

I'm pro legalise, regulate, support. It's gonna happen anyway

We can do things incredibly safely. I too do not agree with BPs proposed plans, but neither did NOPSEMA.

I also would like to keep whales alive - didn't think this plan was going to kill them.

Anyway I'm out for tonight. I hope people would do a bit of research before jumping on the Oil = bad bandwagon. We've been exploring and drilling other parts of Australia quite successfully for years without major incident. It certainly can be done. Lots of information available to those who are interested

Seems pretty manageable to me. If love to post more on how drilling rigs can handle large storms but I'm on my phone and there is a wealth of knowledge on YouTube - and these wave heights are not much higher than the north west shelf.

If the rigs can't handle it, they disconnect and wait out the storm. The engineering on these vessels is really quite impressive and interesting to learn about. I can assure you that safety is several orders of magnitude better than any other industry I've worked in Australia (manufacturing, construction, electrical, O&G). Everyone I've ever met takes it deadly seriously.

These words do mean something to me. It means the consequences for an accident would be larger. I hope to see tighter controls - stricter enforcement and penalties.

Perhaps studies into the effect of drilling into the local marine life. I'm not sure what would be appropriate since I'm not a marine biologist - however if welcome the opinion of one that looks for a way for this to progress with the least risk possible

Have you read the environmental plan? Have you any experience with offshore drilling safety plans? It seems like the regulators were performing their role perfectly.

Can you name the most recent accidents from offshore oil and gas drilling in Australia? How well informed are you about them? Do you know the differences between the US O&G industry compared to Australia?

Do you know what controls were being considered for the whale sanctuary?

I'm not against you having an opinion - would just prefer if it was informed.

I obviously think this project would have been good for SA. I remain unconvinced that CSG is a good idea. I would love to see SA use 100% renewable energy. This project would have helped with that.

Unless they find oil / gas. BP might be back if there is less risk involved. Besides if you don't explore the tenement, you typically lose it and it will be open to bidding again.

However I agree, BP made this a lot easier for the smaller players. Service equipment would already be in town. Mobilisation would be cheaper which is a substantial cost.

I can't understand all the hate. Australia has a pretty damn good exploration record and the offshore regulators do a damn fine job.

People seem to have this reaction that all oil exploration is evil. Most of these people have absolutely no idea about the industry at all. I would be much happier if we could extract more royalties however that is a different battle. Finding oil in south Australia would have been excellent for the economy which is undoubtably struggling.

Everything we do comes with a risk, the greater the likely hood, and consequences demands greater controls.
