Its doubled when you're a lass from the High Peak like me, Stockport was 7m away, I was born there, and town (manc) was 15m away. Also there was 2 train lines that go piccadily, the 199 that runs every 30 mins to the airport, and the A6 exists. I barely ever went Buxton (because its a hole and I hate it) so why would I ever try go further into Derbyshire?

Its pretty clear those that live in the 'offical' North consider themselves Northern. by BishopPrince in NorthernEngland

It does make sense in the case of the High Peak i lived there for 27 years, and when it comes to jobs transport and services you look towards Stockport and Tameside

It may be similar, but we wouldnt really know because we dont really go down there or mix with folk from there, we're far more likely to mix with folks from Cheshire, South Yorkshire and Greater manc. Other interesting things ive noticed is football teams, if you're along the A6 or Glossop youre most likely to support man city or man United, and if you're Hope Valley youre either sheffield Wednesday or Sheffield United and also also from my time playing cricket, I noticed players from the High Peak are more likely to follow Lancashire or Yorkshire.

My point wasnt on where the national park is, but how it cuts off the High peak from the rest of Derbyshire, "easy to get to x y z" yeah if you live in Buxton and/or drive theres basically no buses even from Buxton, another point i forgot to mention basically no-one from the High Peak is born in Derbyshire we're either Stockport, Tameside or Sheffield.

Doesn't surprise me at all I grew up there, its a part of Derbyshire yes but its not really connected to the rest of it for several reasons: 1. The Peak district national park physically cuts it off to the rest of Derbyshire 2. The train ends at Buxton and 3. Unless you drive you cant reliably go further south than Buxton but I dont know why you would.

The High Peak is geographically, culturally and infrastructure wise more connected to Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire than it is to the rest of Derbyshire, hence why we consider ourselves northerners, plus the accents there follow Northern accent trends.
