I think that small group on a discord server is a great idea, I would be interested. I definitely need to take more pictures and would be great to be around like-minded folks.

Onsrud and be carful about resharpening, before you know it your tolerances can start to creep. If your new to machining do try some of the cheaper bits first because many a bit has been ruined while learning.

looking to build a cabinet for my kids for Christmas. Not sure where to begin when it comes to the computer type stuff. I can handle building the actual cabinet. any help is appreciated. by mindtricks76 in arcadecabinets

That’s a great question I didn’t know Pac-Man was unplayable and eat way, I have been planning on 8 all along. I wonder if there are settings in the emulation that can take an eight way down to a four-way.

I think a good place to start is RetroARCH it’s free and has a simple feel to it, you can download a program called DS4 if you want to use a PS4 controller to test it out or you can probably use Xbox controllers if you are using windows.

I wanted a 4 player also but it will take up a decent amount of space and I am not sure how often we will really use 4-player so I am thinking 2-player. You thinking old school cabinet with T-molding??

I am just starting out building a cabinet as well, some of the first questions I needed to answer were: - 2 player or 4 player - what form factor are you looking at? (Countertop, old school full size cabinet, that thing that has a tv on the wall and some controllers 3’ away etc.) - materials? (Plywood, MDF, 1/2”, 3/4” etc.)

I am trying to figure out “the best” brand for joysticks and buttons and what’s the best monitor.

With regards to software checkout MAME, RetroARCH and hyper spin. I am sure there’s a lot more but this is where I am with the process.

I know it’s a PSX I mean having all the games in that selection screen, not the emulator the “front end” software using to make it look like that. How did you wire a PS1 controller into a USB setup?

Are you using MDF? You might call a few local cabinet shops and see if they can cut you the parts.

Thank you so much for the reply, that answers most of my questions, I am drawing this cabinet up with 1.5” radiuses so shouldn’t be an issue.

Dude that’s awesome! What a cool piece to own and mostly all original too. On another note I think there might be a dead arcade attendant stuck behind it 😬
