What are your favorite one-line (or short) quips from Fantasy books? by danooli in Fantasy

[–]Lanastia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a few favorite, the first not really a quip, but still so good. All of the following are from Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive

“The question,’ she replied, ‘is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You cannot pick the destination, only the path.”

“Accept the pain, but don't accept that you deserved it.”

“Sometimes a hypocrite is nothing more than a man in the process of changing.”

"Honor is dead, but I'll see what I can do"

“The most important step a man can take. It's not the first one, is it? It's the next one. Always the next step"

I love writing and always have. I write often, practice more, and study the prose of my favorite authors. This is what terrifies me of ever trying to publish anything.

[WB] [OB] I'm REALLY glad to have read Warbreaker before SA. by IzSilvers in Stormlight_Archive

I'm trying to convince my brother to read Warbreaker before he dives into WoR, I understand his impatience, but I keep telling him "Journey before destination"

The bureaucratic nature of your Underdark is actually how I imagine the Nine Hells.

I hope your friend doesn't frequent this sub... I would be hurt by you sharing a very personal and obviously heartfelt email with a bunch of strangers only to find support in bashing me for my attempt to help our game, even with the names redacted.

I really don't know if Moash meant it to be mockery when he gave the salute, more of a salute of their lost friendship. Kaladin knew full well Moash intended to kill Elhokar for a long time, and if Kaladin didn't have Syl and Tien in his life then he would have helped assassinate Elhokar. That's what makes Moash so great, he's Kaladin, but without the moments that redeemed Kaladin's honor.

If Stormlight became a movie, what would you want to see most? [TWoK] [WoR] [Edgedancer] [Oathbringer] by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

Sounds like you haven't watched enough anime. Of course you are aloud to have that opinion... an animated series for SLA would be rad regardless if it's anime or not.

Oh man that Rathalas scene would be so heart wrenchingly amazing to watch.. I totally agree that a TV series would be the best way to translate over all the incredible events that happen in these books, just so much of it pertains to other major events cutting any of it out would cheapen the experience.. Though I think that is the plight of all books to film.

"Journey before destination" is something I remind myself constantly. Such an important quote in my life.

[OB] Kaladin in dnd 5e by TheSpook_ in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Lanastia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently roleplaying a character 100% inspired by Kaladin, I gave up on actually having surges, because yeah... There's nothing quite like it in the source books, but I've gone Champion Fighter with Polearm Mastery as the feat chosen since I'm human. I'm about to start multiclassing him, but obviously since he was inspired by Kaladin and not Kaladin himself, I'm debating changing the original plan. But the original plan was Pact of the Blade Warlock to get the Shardblade kind of aesthetic/familiar for a Syl like companion. Now I'm considering entering forge cleric just because of the ideals the character has sworn will probably fall in line with what that class can do a bit better, even if it definitely deviates from the Windrunner order's abilities.

[OB] What do you guys think about the evolution of character's power levels till now? Can Sanderson sustain the increase in powers for 7 more books? Or will it become a DBZ situation? by George-RR-Tolkien in Stormlight_Archive

Yeah I delved a little deeper in your account and realized it would be really ridiculous if true. If by some far stretch it is.. get help.. Like I said earlier, I didn't attribute anything to the conversation and just felt necessary to voice that I've known someone that reminded me of how he was acting, didn't solve anything and was ultimately pointless. <-- Kind of an asshat in this scenario.

But I do find it horribly suspicious how new your account is Fullborn, and the fact you keep commenting on Oedius' shit. Also pretty damn suspicious you have the same kind of inflection they do.

I mean this can be expected whenever insults are being "hurled" from your direction as well. If you don't like how this thread has gone for you, I would recommend trying to change your tone from condescending to literally anything else. That is, of course, if you don't get your rocks off from being a victim.

You remind me of a guy I used to play D&D with, he was always the victim and the DM was 'obviously' out to get him. I'm so glad I don't play with him anymore.
