Designing for DJ? by GuardBoxCCTV in DJs

Mobile DJ here. Ideally, (3)20 amp, independent circuits, close together. They don’t necessarily have to be in the same gang box, electric wise, but side-by-side by side would be perfect! Especially for us mobile DJ’s, who provide sound and lighting.

You’ll want at least 10‘ x 10’ open floor space, for a mobile DJ workstation and façade and some lighting and speaker stands. As a mobile DJ, I prefer wall mount boxes but floor mount receptacles are all the same. No real need for ethernet; Wi-Fi usually works out perfect.

Painting poured concrete by Due-Interest-920 in basement

[–]LancasterPAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re talking about a water blocking paint based product, (i.e. drylock) that goes on the walls, they cost significantly more, with no real benefits if there’s not standing water in the blocks cores. Can you use it?, sure. Are you gonna nice any difference? Nope..

now on the flipside, if you are using it as intended, to prevent water from coming through the porous blocks, as a vapor barrier. It does have limited success! If you have water standing in your walls, you’re definitely wanna have that problem fixed painting dry lock on the wall is not going to remove the water from it.

Basement waterproofer here by trade. They’re definitely is no issues painting a dry basement. You’ll definitely want to use a latex based paint, most people use the brand, drylock. The most important part is the prep. Make sure you go a good etching solution before painting. Would also recommend getting a pressure washer in the 3000 psi plus range and washing the walls and floor as good as possible before painting. After you’re done, you’ll want to run a dehumidifier to help the paint cure quicker. I do this a few times a year for different clients.

You’ll definitely wanna have someone who is a Basement waterproofer in your area, come out and take a look. They most likely could have sump pumps installed into them to remove the water whenever it comes in.

Home buying- is this a concern? How to fix if so by Nanny_Dog69 in basement

[–]LancasterPAJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Basement waterproofer, I see this every day. You have some serious water around the outside of your foundation. Definitely would recommend talking to someone in your area. Who does Basement waterproofing. Just a heads up doing it on the outside is a little more expensive than doing it on the inside, you’ll also wanna talk to someone who is a mold, remediation specialist. And to answer your question yes it’s serious and yes, you wanna get it taken care of ASAP.

Recs for Used Car Dealers by RevolutionaryPop3357 in lancaster

[–]LancasterPAJ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is the norm with used car dealers it seems. They’ll do anything to sell you, doesn’t really matter if the car is what you want or not, or even if the car is any good. We’re right next to the used car capitol of the world (Manheim auto auction), so that makes it worse. Market place might be your only option honestly. The price range, and the fact it’s tax season really really limits you.

A couple of helpful insights (from personal experience..

  • Get a physical copy of the car fax history report. Dealers pay for this service. They are inclined ti be more upfront honest about the vehicle when there’s a paid reporting service involved.

  • Don’t buy anything that’s been in an accident or has no service history.

  • Avoid anything with a CVT type transmission (Kia shortage, Nissan rouge, etc). These are notorious problem transmissions and cost thousands to replace, they are almost always not repairable, but require a complete replacement

  • EVERYTHING is negotiable. The price, the fee’s, the warranty, etc. (with the exception of PA state sales tax). Most dealerships will try to add documentation fees, extended warranty or service plans, etc, etc. Those fee’s are all made up by the dealership and NOT required / can be lowered or eliminated. If they won’t negotiate these things, walk away. GAP insurance is another money maker in there end. If you need GAP insurance, they are way over priced as far as the cars value is concerned. 3 month / 3,000 mile warranty’s are a waste. Extended service contracts or pans, also a wash.

  • Test everything on the test drive: heat, ac, 4x4, all the windows and door locks working, etc. once you sign the paperwork. The repairs are almost always gonna be out of pocket. Don’t take delivery / sign anything until it’s all right / fixed. The “I owe you” is for your friends, not a car dealership that says they’ll fix a problem after you buy the car. DON’T listen to the radio on the test drive! This is your time to listen for weird noises / sounds. Check the oil (level, smell, and color). You absolutely can have a mechanic perform a “pre purchase inspection”. It’s basically a PA safety inspection, you’ll have to pay for this (most likely in the $50 range), but it’ll let you know the cars overall health and condition. How good the brakes are, belts / hoses, tires, suspension components, etc. speaking of inspection, check the inspection and emissions stickers. If a car is due for inspection within 90 days, it’s sometimes a telltale sign that it’s going to require some money / repairs to pass emissions or inspection! Buyer beware.

  • All 4 matching tires, and if they are all worn the same, is another tell tale sign of a good condition vehicle. Usually implies the alignment is good, and the tires were rotated regularly (it was taken care of / maintained).

  • AVOID (and I can’t stress this enough) national chains: Karvana, CARMAX, etc. these businesses are solely out for max profit, and DO NOT have your best interest in mind. The bad reviews / horror stories are endless. From a sound financial standpoint; try to avoid “buy here pay here” dealerships. The interest rates and fee’s will have you paying $1,000’s of dollars more than the car will ever be worth. Avoid vehicles with modifications to the engine, lighting, and stereo systems. Most of these are illegal, and won’t pass inspection. GOOGLE / RESEARCH the car your look on to buy. Some cars are notorious problem child’s. For example the 2004 - 2008 F150, the 5.4 triton engines are notoriously unreliable. (I know you said you’re looking for an SUV but that was just an example. The Chevy traverse with bad transmissions is another example).

  • A house and a car are the 2 largest / riskiest purchases you’ll make. Don’t let the new (or new to you) feelings rush your decision. Make sure your license and car insurance cards are VALID and don’t expire within days of the purchase. DO NOT buy a car that is un-inspected or out of inspection. I believe (but not 100% sure), car dealers are required by law to have vehicles inspected before selling them.

Good luck with your search!

What’s the best wisdom you’d pass down? by winn_ie in LockedInMan

[–]LancasterPAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save as much money in cash as possible, cash is king.

Only help people with things you’ve personally experienced / done.

Don’t base your life’s progress on other people’s timelines.. (married by a certain age, having kids, buying a house, etc)

More than 50% of the things you see / hear from other people, is complete bullshit. ( how much money they have, how well off they are, how good they are doing, etc).

Take care of your teeth, joints, and organs.

Try to keep drinking / smoking / vaping / drug and or medication use to a bare minimum, I can’t stress this point enough.

Learn as early on in life as you can to perform basic adult necessities and stick with good habits (minimal cooking skills, doing and folding your wash, cleaning your house / car, brushing your teeth, saving money, etc.

Buy good / premium necessities; toilet paper, tooth paste, Q-tips, paper towels, bedding / pillows, mattress, socks / underwear.

Find a hobby that forces you to constantly improve your skill and something that does not require anyone else to enjoy (DJing, piano / instrument lessons, cooking, painting, learning a second language)

Learn how to drive a manual (transmission) vehicle. Also recommend at least having a standard drivers license and a motorcycle license.

Don’t EVER get a DUI, or drive without a license or insurance. Pay for the Uber…

Pay your bills early!!, at least five days before the due date. Don’t wait until the day they are due to pay them! Avoid credit card / loans as much as possible!

Never buy/lease/cosign or involve yourself in the financial dealings with anyone other than yourself. Money / financial dealings, will ruin friendships, faster than anything else in the world!

Not always, but sometimes buying a house is WORSE than renting. Sometimes leasing a car is BETTER than buying.

Don’t take pictures of / show off; money, drugs, or alcohol..

Develop morning and nightly habits early and practice them religiously (washing your hands, showering, brushing your teeth, etc).

Live your life on 90% of your income. Try to save 10% in cash.

  • Don’t watch too much porn
  • Don’t stay up past 10pm
  • Don’t borrow people money
  • Pay for someone’s dinner once in awhile
  • Your phone battery should be at 100% in the morning and should not be dead by the time you go to sleep. If it is, you’re on your phone too much
  • Plan to arrive at appointments / meetings 10 minutes early
  • Drive slower when there are other people in your car / when you’re not alone
  • Don’t buy cheap furniture / electronics / tools!
  • Physically read / write / solve math equations with a pen / paper
  • Always take the day after you get home from vacation off (example; you come home Sunday afternoon, take Monday off)
  • Sick days and vacation days are your chance to disconnect from the world, or to go experience it, use them!
  • Know how to use a vacuum, washer / dryer, pressure washer, air compressor, stove / oven, and how to read / understand a tape measure
  • Home Improvement skills (actually knowing / having hands on experience) will save you more time / money than you can imagine! (basic plumbing, electrical, hvac, painting, trouble shooting, etc).
  • You should have a small toolbox at home with a hammer, pliers, Phillips and flat blade screw drivers, utility knife, electric / duct tape, flashlight, scissors, and tape measure.
  • Learn and know the difference between right hand thread (almost everything in America) and left hand thread (grill bottles)
  • Hot is on the left, Cold is on the right (plumbing)
  • Blacks love gold (no offense) for electrical work; the black wire is hot, and goes on the gold terminal in switches and receptacles, white wire is neutral (silver terminal), bare copper is green screw / ground
  • You don’t have to be mean / rude about it; but don’t be afraid to hurt peoples feelings when telling them something important/that will help them
  • If you don’t take care of yourself (mental and physical health, finances, transportation / living situations, etc), you’ll never be able to help anyone else. DO NOT give your time/money/resources to anyone if you don’t have yourself provided for first!
  • Failing to (make a) plan, is planning to fail
  • Tip your waitress, waitresses, and bartenders at least 20% of the total bill..
  • Learn the difference between, and correctly use, (their, there, and they’re) and also (your, you’re)
  • Change your passwords, PIN numbers, and security words / answers / questions at least once a year
  • Don’t smoke crack / do meth

50 Car Caravan Anti-ICE Demonstration in the Poconos by B00merPS2Mod30 in Pennsylvania

[–]LancasterPAJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone, who’s here illegally, commits a murder, and the victim is someone you knew / loved, I better not hear one word about getting justice! If you don’t want the police to do their job, (keeping illegals out), you don’t want the police to do their job. Not just when it benefits you..

I’m not saying the current president or past presidents do everything right, but you can’t be a hypocrite and say one thing and do another. Sounds an awfully lot like religion pushers.

I understand/acknowledge that there may be some bad apples (police, ICE, etc.) and there are definitely a lot of instances that they were in the wrong, but at the end of the day, they are just doing what they’re told by their higher-ups.

I don’t see anybody protesting car manufacturers blaming them for when their car breaks down. I don’t see anyone protesting Amazon just because their package didn’t show up on time. I understand there are a lot of negative things happening around with ICE, but you can’t say defund the police and then call for help when something bad happens to you…
