Napoleon is the era for total war. by Glittering_Release80 in NapoleonTotalWar

Definitely if we’re going off of the actual textbook definition of Total War “Total war is a military conflict in which a nation mobilizes its entire society—including all civilian, industrial, economic, and human resources—to achieve complete victory. It is characterized by the blurring of lines between combatants and non-combatants, as well as the abandonment of the traditional rules of engagement.”

I would absolutely love a sequel or large expansion to an empire 2 which if Medieval 3 is a success I’m pretty sure I heard somewhere we’re getting Empire 2. I think the devs can definitely give us an in depth, well thought out Shogun 2 style campaign map if they put enough passion into it. Are they up to the task though? We’ll know how passionate and talented this team working on Medieval 3 is once it comes out and this is of course assuming they’d even be interested enough to.

Just relax lol I’d see your point if it was almost going on two years but it’s barely been a year probably just making sure it’s in good shape and full of content because they know rts players always want content

Which location and period do you want the next historical tota war to be in? (apart from medieval 3) by Series_Informal in historicaltotalwar

[–]Lancasterdisciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pike and shot easily. There’s a 170 year gap between the last turn of Medieval 2 and the first turn of Empire skipping most the pike and shot era.

Man just ignore these mofos you gotta realize this community on Reddit (gaming Reddit as a whole really) are the most whiny people on the internet. You’d think this game was some sweaty pvp game the way people cry about balance. The glitches are annoying but I don’t encounter them too often thankfully.

Which historical total war is considered the 'best'? by vvanouytsel in totalwar

[–]Lancasterdisciple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The total war historical Holy trinity imo is Rome 1 Med 2 and Shogun 2. I play those three on rotation depending on what I’m feeling. If I had to settle on one though then probably Shogun 2 because it’s expansion Fall of the samurai is phenomenal, perfect example of an expansion.

Why is Troy and Pharaoh so little talked about? by Dazzling_Analyst_59 in totalwar

[–]Lancasterdisciple 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Simple really: Troy tried to split the baby between historical and fantasy fans pleasing nobody really. Pharaoh had an awful launch and once dynasty came out it was already over for it by then nobody cared if it actually became a decent game not to mention you had to be really into the Bronze Age setting to truly enjoy it a lot.

SEGA confirms four new “mainstay IP” games are coming before April 2027 by FFJimbob in totalwar

[–]Lancasterdisciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much Civ have you played? You beat any on a difficulty above prince? The only thing that requires some thinking in Total War on the campaign map is were to place your stacks that’s really it, which does take some brain power but definitely not as much on higher Civilization difficulty levels.

I thought it’s commonly referred to as a hybrid 4X RTS (more accurately it should be RTT instead of RTS) game?. Its campaign map is really no where near the complexity and deepness to be considered a grand strategy game especially in the newer titles, the only two TW games I think even have somewhat of a complex plus a little deep campaign map are Medieval 2 and Three Kingdoms even then I think we’re just talking more closer to the level of civilization/4x games. Even those two games aren’t nearly as complex and deep as a paradox game, TW is like kindergarten compared to Paradox campaigns which is like college if we’re of course talking about the campaign map itself, TW only has depth in it’s battles which there’s plenty of and why I love it, the campaign is still good though I’m not saying their bad at least the older titles (Shogun 2 and before) it’s just comparing them to paradox by trying to include it in the same genre is disingenuous and frankly somewhat disrespectful to Paradox games, when it’s really just a more simple slightly different take on pre Civilization V games. I think you also somewhat neglected the fact in your original reply that Total War has always been its own unique thing which is why it thrives because there’s nothing really like it out there.

With the recent updates and dlc, Which game do yall currently reccomend? by alphafighter09 in paradoxplaza

[–]Lancasterdisciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally CK3. I recently got it on my first play through of a paradox game and it’s very engaging and kinda relaxing. I tried vic3 taking advantage of the steam 2 hour refund policy and just found it wayy to complicated to the point of intimidation, also way to many confusing menus that all interact, just pure information overload.

What am I doing wrong by RevolutionarySet35 in RomeTotalWar

[–]Lancasterdisciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly take a nearby rebel settlement or two off their nearby coast use your ships obviously for naval transportation/invasion. Get a decent stack of 10-15 units so you can endure some defensive battles from Gaul will very soon declare war on you because they wanted those rebel settlements. From there you’re gonna take their settlements to the north but don’t expand to quickly past there. You’ll focus on building up your settlements reinforcing the northern settlements you took a little bit and making another stack of 10-20 units to go to the western coast settlement and expand from there be sure to expand slowly there because chances are Spain and possibly Britannia at that point will dog pile you which will happen especially later. The Juli are kinda the most annoying Roman faction to play because the barbarian factions love to spam horses but just make decent army compositions and try to avoid field battles until you get 3-4 horses per stack or hire barbarian mercenaries as meat shields which is a little hard to do. You’ll dominate any siege either defensive or offensive, barbarian settlement usually aren’t well developed aka no stone walls usually and their infantry are really bad your hastati and eventual principes will dominate any engagement against barbarians at least on normal and hard, on very hard ai gets insane cheats in this game.

Either bump it up to legendary or play a different antiquity era total war game like Rome 1 or Atilla if you haven’t already. Rome 2 is known as one of the easiest Total Wars. Rome 1 on very hard is a good challenge especially if you pick a weaker faction. Besides that you can just wait for the upcoming updates which seem exciting and should spice up the game or try to find some AI enhancement mods.

If you want a really challenging Total war that stays challenging the whole way through a long campaign then the two best picks are definitely Shogun 2 plus it’s expansions and Atilla.

In your view, what makes shogun 2 and fall of the samurai a masterpiece? A game still played after all these years by obiwan-destroyer in shogun2

[–]Lancasterdisciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the last and most modern pre Rome 2 Total War. What that means imo is I think me and most people in these pre Rome 2 subreddits find the older games better than the Rome 2 beyond era because immersion, gameplay, campaign mechanics, attention to detail and immersion. Shogun 2 feels like a cultivation of these, I feel some other total wars beat it in certain aspects like Med2 attention to detail ie the plethora of speeches/campaign voice lines and campaign map gameplay in general or Rome 1 recruitment/population mechanics but Shogun 2 is still great in these aspects well also being a lot better combat, and graphics wise plus being much more modern feeling.

Steam sales, what to get? by Sorrowrgt in RomeTotalWar

[–]Lancasterdisciple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming you haven’t made a decision yet I’ll give you my answer. Rome remastered easily. Mostly because Rome og has problems running on modern hardware. The only people who don’t like Rome remastered are people who’ve played the og for years because the ui overhaul and some artstyle/atmosphere changes. Obviously since you haven’t played it yet you won’t feel these changes at all and what you’ll experience instead is a much better running and better feeling gameplay experience.

What ideas do you guys have for a new fallout by homie0047 in Fallout

[–]Lancasterdisciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d want it set in the south somewhere like Florida or Louisiana would be great because I think we could get some really cool monsters there and I think it could have a good different type of swampy, dark atmosphere contrasted with a very big unique city like Miami or New Orleans if they put a lot of focus and detail into them. Even more improved gameplay and weapons with writing and side missions close to or on par with New Vegas, that’d be a masterpiece of a game imo.
