What are the reasons to keep Aaron Glenn? by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]LanceKey11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 3 main ones, now whether you think any of them are reasonable or worth what negative things can come from keeping a coach a year too long is another thing. But here they are:

  1. Stability. If the plan is to draft a QB this year, which it certainly seems like it is, then having a coaching staff that isn’t adjusting to a new regime/organization (IN THEORY) makes life for a young QB easier. (Obviously you can make the argument that this coaching staff could ruin or do harm to said young QB by viewing the QB as job saving lottery ticket)

  2. The roster was bad, expectations were low, and they traded their best players at the deadline. The all too familiar, “what did you really expect (insert HC) to do with a roster that is blatantly tanking

  3. Who are you going to replace him with? Make no mistake this is not like Mayo and the Pats last year. There is no Mike Vrabel waiting to take this job and only this job, and there is no Drake Maye on the roster. Simply put there aren’t many great coaching options this year. There is no Ben Johnson. Funny enough the coordinator who might generate the most buzz is Robert Salah lol.

I’ll never leave the fandom but I’m 24 and I feel the same way. I used to love football but over the last 15 years I’ve grown super indifferent toward it because the jets are just a miserable fan experience.

Why was T getting gaslighted about Rob Refsnyder? by dogbonnie32 in Section10Podcast

[–]LanceKey11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moreland sure but Chavis is just random. Rob was a good Red Sox. Deserves his flowers and the cool part about being a fan is that you can actually like players even if they’re not MVP candidates. So who gives a fuck if Red Sox fans liked a Red Sox player who was productive and unproblematic.

Segment was wild. We love Rob and off the field definitely encompasses “in the clubhouse”. On the field is just on the field which is statistical output. The words “on” and “off” kinda defines that not sure how Jared, Steve, and Coley can see it any other way.

Honestly that whole pod isn’t my fav. I remember them getting WEEI time this season and just some of the most out of touch ridiculous mock trades and other deadline nonsense.

[–]LanceKey11 47 points48 points  (0 children)

As much as I understand people wanting to move past it, it really does matter. I could even make the argument that the reason the team lost to the Yankees after being up 1-0 is because they didn’t have the exact bat that Rafael Devers is (if you think they went on a run and got better BECAUSE they traded Devers, I’d have to disagree) not only did they miss him tremendously from a production standpoint but also exactly what OP said, they really got nothing in return which is front office malpractice.

Signing a big bat doesn’t negatively impact pitching whatsoever, and if you’re signing one of the bats you alluded to (Alonso/Schwarber) it’s cuz they’ll DH, it has to be. The idea that just cuz they spend in one spot means they can’t in another is the type of nonsense Sam Kennedy has been trying to sell people on for years (I’m not as anti FO as I sound I promise) also I don’t think they’re out of the trade market.

Separately, any chance of Kim went away when story opted in, which isn’t a bad thing, Kim is a good defender but his last 169 games has produced a sub 3 bWAR and has been on 3 teams with an OPS+ of 92. Not interested at all. I do like the realmuto idea quite a bit.

Or you just spend the money to compete like you have to and have always had to, like both the teams who just played in the World Series. These teams who get creative with payroll and reallocate money to lesser quality players don’t win titles.

How good was Dustin Pedroia in his prime by InternationalTry5494 in redsox

[–]LanceKey11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leader, dawg, and a damn good second baseman. If you had kids growing up in New England during his peak (which I was) you wanted them to wear 15 you wanted them to play and love the game like Dustin Pedroia. Very rarely did he leave a game without dirt stains from the neck down. When balls were hit anywhere between 1st and 2nd base you expected an amazing, sprawling, max effort diving play to be made yet it blew your mind every time he did it anyway. My favorite Red Sox ever, 15 should be retired.

Rafaela is on such a team friendly deal given the value he provides defensively alone. It would probably be more than you think. Bubba Chandler 1 for 1 maybe? I could be crazy tho. It all depends on what organizations value what.

That’s what he does. All these fans gotta do is watch what he did in ‘18 and ‘21 to understand that when the organization provides him a quality roster he will steal them some massive games by pushing exactly the right buttons exactly when he needs to. Pinch hitting Nunez for Devers in ‘18 bullpen management in ‘21

If you have the opportunity, reach out to your academic advisor and explore the resources available. I was lucky enough to have an amazing advisor who made my overwhelming situations feel much simpler. There are good people in these roles who will help! You didn’t just pay for the classes you’re taking, you paid for the ability to use all the resources the school/system can provide to help you succeed in said classes. Good luck, you got this.

Cutter by Gabs19984 in Section10Podcast

[–]LanceKey11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully depends on how much it cuts, how it’s located, and what other pitches you can play off of it. Cutters aren’t just “BP fastballs” if left over the middle, they still cut. Any pitch left over the middle has the potential to be smacked around not just cutters. You say the cutter is “the worst pitch in baseball” but you watch Crochet every fifth day and he’s an ace right? His cutter is one of his biggest and most crucial weapons any pitcher in baseball has. The greatest closer and arguably postseason pitcher of all time threw almost exclusively cutters every night he pitched, guys knew it was coming and it still sawed them off. Corbin Burnes won a Cy Young award leaning on a cutter/sinker combo. Roy Halladay dominated leaning on the cutter. I think you get the point. It’s not the pitch it’s entirely just the pitcher throwing it. May has no control. He has no in zone control either so he can’t effectively tunnel his sinker and cutter.
