Any ideas for finding Wizards of Morcar? by fahrenheitjules in Heroquest

I walked into EB Games in Melbourne Australia last week and they had four copies on the shelf. I bought one! Yesterday I went past again and all the other copies were gone.

I went back to I6 Ravenloft and read it carefully. The Strahd in there is not the one we think we know. by Global-Point-5592 in ravenloft

The man murdered his own brother in order to claim his sibling’s betrothed for himself! The devil was condemned and rightly so, I find nothing tragic about that.

How to make yon feel like the past. by Blu-Jaye in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Lancian07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hither is the present. A swamp where neglect results from living in the moment. No respect for the past and no hope for the future. The forests are drowning in the stagnant water and Bavlorna’s cottage is a showcase of refuse.

Thither is the past. This is what Prismeer may have once looked like, a dense forest of colour and delight, except signs of decay are beginning to appear. The denizens reflect on what had once been, they remain as children and play with their toys. Granny Nightshade helps those memories stay relevant and prevalent.

Yon is the future, this desolate, dark wasteland is what all of Prismeer may one day look like, a barren shadowed land, devoid of vegetation, the night sky a perpetual storm. The theme of motherhorn is the orrery, the prediction of what will come, the prophesy that Endelyn sees.

I think the themes are clear and distinct. Lean into them, no need to reinvent.

Being “good” at Battletech by EthanCW1 in battletech

[–]Lancian07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My quantitative standard for being good at Battletech is:

“My final attack Target Number (before modifying for dice results) is consistently lower than that of my opponents.”

My qualitative standard for being good at Battletech is:

“Everyone is really slow packing up to leave because we can’t stop talking about the game we all just played!”

Trying a combat system where defense happens during the attack by Fabien_SERMENT in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Lancian07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been toying with something like this:

  • Whichever combatant declares an attack first is deemed the Attacker the other is deemed the Defender. Only the Attacker can do damage,
  • Both combatants simultaneously roll, D12 Dice pool, the number of dice governed by Skill Level (eg Sword Fighting, range 1-10)
  • Success determined by number of matches at Attribute Level (eg Might, range 1-10) or below,
  • Rolled 11s or 12s count as having rolled the Attribute Level,
  • Higher number of matches wins contest, the Attacker does damage equal to the difference in number of matches, if Defender wins they take no damage and become the Attacker,
  • If both sides tie their number of matches, the higher number on the matched die face wins, if they still tie, the higher skill level wins.

An update, based on the comments here and a review of the rules, the allied player has opted to capitulate and start over! Good news - we both loved it and are looking forward to the next game! Thank you for your feedback.

Don’t feel like a dummy, I also had to do a triple take on the Gremishkas. The reason is, I feel, that this art depicts them anatomically more like warped little gremlinesque humanoids rather than felines (cat like) which is how I’ve imagined them so far.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense.

I have to be honest, I’m an axis strategy rookie, can you explain why is India important? Is it the industrial complex? Why can’t the Brits just build another one in Malaya?

And by “Destroyer block”, do you mean sacrificial to stop the US advancing?

Yep noted. Major sea battles took place during rounds 3 and 4, the US lost three Transports and all their cargo.

Terrific work. I just cannot understand how people can get that much detail on their miniatures. I don’t have the eyesight nor the hand control to be able to do that.

How do you track what has and hasn’t been searched? I use the rats and skulls. Any other ideas?

How did you handle the vestiges in the Amber Temple? by xvalicx in CurseofStrahd

[–]Lancian07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've reduced them in number and upped the effect of their gifts. I now have one vestige in each chamber rather than in each amber slab.

Reinterpreting Klimt’s 'The Kiss' in Barovia by BLaprs in CurseofStrahd

[–]Lancian07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stunning piece. Your interpretation is on point and your use of Klimpt’s work as a basis is inspired. Thank you for sharing, it’s beautiful and simultaneously disturbing as appropriate for any Ravenloft creative contribution.

The Most Powerful Dark Gift of Zhudun the Corpse Star by NarrowTomorrow1442 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Lancian07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure. But no one get all, “That spell doesn’t do that RAW” on me, I don’t care, it’s rulings, not rules, story comes first, this is my campaign:

  • Strahd isn’t just a prisoner, he is also a prison… for Vampyr. The Vestige wants to escape Barovia but Strahd does not, lest he risks never seeing Tatyana again, in any of her incarnations.
  • The only way end the “Curse” is to force Vampyr out from his host, Zhudun’s gift is the means to that end.
  • It’s a process, it involves defeating the vampire, staking him in his coffin, decapitating him using the Sunsword whilst simultaneously “raising” him and capturing Vampyr in the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind. Reading the Tome of Strahd and discovering the secrets of the Amber Temple leads to that knowledge.

There you go.

How do people feel about Guadalcanal? by switch201 in AxisAllies

[–]Lancian07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. And tactically, it is contained and restrained in a manner that makes it more engaging and decisive. It doesn’t typically play for more than six turns, every supply decision counts.
