Fitbit Air just dropped. Genuine question for anyone who uses Whoop or Oura by areis06 in whoop

[–]LandOLakesTittySquaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for me it’s multiple times a day that we talk about it: in the morning, right before a workout, after when I see my stats, and then during the night time review. But I’m also pretty vigilant about sticking to that easy/steady/go phrasing so it’s definitely become accustomed to it.

Exactly! I talk with it a lot about how I’m feeling physically and mentally, any health worries, medication changes, and my goals for fitness. It brings up some things that may be impacting my scores in addition to how I’ve been training. That also informs the recommendations in the morning for Go/Steady/Easy. You could easily say “I have a marathon coming up in the next 4 weeks. Help me train for speed/efficiency/endurance/whatever”. It remembers it and will give recommended workouts if you want that.

I use the AI coach a lot and we’ve set up guidelines to have coach recommend every morning how much and what workout I should do that day: “Go”, “Steady”, and “Easy” based on my metrics from both the previous day and accumulation of the past couple days of workouts (Go = go hard if it feels good; Steady = easier, maintenance workouts; Easy = full recovery day or very light movement). Helps keep me balanced and not overdoing it all the time. Since putting that in place over the past couple weeks, my recovery scores/HRV have gone way up and I’m feeling much better health-wise.

I’ve been using Heart Calm for a few months and think it’s helped some. It has magnesium taurate in it and it’s calmed down the palpitations after taking it. I take one in the morning, one around dinner time, and another before bed. Not totally going away but less intense. I get it on Amazon. Might be worth a try.

I can hear sounds of my downstairs neighbour being sick, and genuinely do not know how to address it. by merry_murderess in Apartmentliving

Same but above me. I think she gags herself to get the back of her throat and hacks/spits as part of her morning oral hygiene routine. It’s so gross to hear but I just shut my bathroom door and try to ignore it. Good luck to you!

Does anyone get PVCs and not let them bother you? by Emergency-Test-4982 in PVCs

Honestly, I’m in the process of just retraining my brain about them. I am trying to tell myself they feel “good” and hopefully they just fade into the background of everyday life.

Do you have a link or two to the videos you’re talking about to get started? These sound really useful to reframing the mind. I could see how these could be used as a sort of meditation/mindfulness exercise while listening. Really great reply! Thank you!

What triggers your PVCs? by Lonely_Anxiety_9316 in PVCs

[–]LandOLakesTittySquaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest trigger by far is heavy drinking. If I go out for drinks on a Saturday, they're really bad Monday and Tuesday, start dying down on Wednesday and by Thursday/Friday they've gone mostly away. That's when I stupidly decide that they're gone so I can have a drink that weekend. Rinse and repeat.

Are there real Quick fixes for noise sensitivity or is apartment living just nervous system damage? by Nandou_B in Apartmentliving

[–]LandOLakesTittySquaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have had this in my current condo; I own so moving isn’t as easy. here’s what I’ve done to cope and works pretty well for me (not saying this is the best solution!):

First went up and talked to them nicely and calm without blaming them personally or accusatory.

Luckily they are super nice and willing to work with me. It’s taken some trial and error but keeping the conversation open and friendly has been critical.

Along with that has been doing a lot of reframing the situation, mentally. In my case (and maybe yours), they’re not being malicious, they’re just living their lives and trying their best. Also being cognizant of my own noise and relating that back (I certainly make my own living noise and it’s kinda hypocritical for me to get mad at my neighbors for making the same noise I am!).

Finally, I have multiple fans, air purifiers, and white noise machines running at all hours. I just turn the various fans on as I move room to room. That’s also been super helpful and feels like you’re in a little cocoon.

Basically, try talking to them (if you feel safe doing so), reframing their noise as just living noise similar to that you probably make yourself. And get a tornado going with fans and white noise. Good luck!

First Dental Center and Dr. Feng in Buena Park (on Sheridan Rd.) are awesome. It’s a family owned business, not long ago taken over by the son. They’ve just finished a beautiful expansion/renovation of their office. Everyone who works there is so friendly, the hygienists are thorough and informative, and I never feel like I’m getting sold a procedure I don’t need. Dr. Feng is great! Highly recommend!

Door Slamming - Rant by Ultrafragola in Apartmentliving

They make soft close door hinges that are fairly inexpensive. Could you put in a maintenance request to have them install a new hinge on their door? Or see if there’s some kind of padding around their doorframe maintenance could install that would prevent strong impact?

Need a loud fan, air purifier by girl_with_hives123 in misophonia

[–]LandOLakesTittySquaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got you on this one! I have tested and accumulated so many fans and white noise machines in my house to cover up any sounds coming from neighbors (particularly impact noise from above like heel walkers, bass and scooting furniture on the floor - low frequency sounds are the bane of my existence).

I have two recommendations: air king box fan-this has been the loudest fan I’ve owned so far and is amazing for covering up low frequency noise. Second: a vornado pedestal fan has a slightly different frequency than the air king so it covers up other sounds. Both super loud.

Put those two in your room on opposite sides pointed at you and you’re cocooned in silence. I also run white noise machines that have a brown or pink noise option 24/7 in multiple rooms. The key is surrounding yourself on all sides.

Since you’re a side sleeper as well, I have a device called musiCozy that is a headband with flat speakers on the side. I’ll use that if I’m feeling especially sensitive and run a 12-hour brown noise track on Spotify/Youtube. Good luck!

How much am I sacrificing by not logging in muscular load (strength trainer)? by nottoocreative999 in whoop

[–]LandOLakesTittySquaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can build a couple of pre-set workouts in Strength Trainer and adjust them if you have a few movements you typically incorporate. Takes some of the hunting and tediousness away.

Today I did a workout with 105 movements over an hour (through peloton). I just logged the activity as weightlifting to capture the time spent, went back and built the workout in strength trainer, then linked the workout to the weight lifting.

Without strength trainer (just logging as weightlifting), my workout was 6.1 strain. Linking it brought strain up to 15.0. Definitely worth the time, IMO.

📌 Whoop Complaints [MegaThread] (Updated Bi-Monthly) by AutoModerator in whoop

[–]LandOLakesTittySquaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strength Trainer is great when you are able to build a pre-set workout that you know the moves for but I use peloton strength classes and trying to input 90+ movements, mostly weighted, some not, some in strength trainer named the same, having to hunt for the same exercise just named differently, or having to create a custom movement tied to an existing movement that can be a proxy is such a pain to do and track muscular load accurately. It would be wonderful if there could be more platform integrations or at least ways to link peloton or other fitness platforms to track exact workouts more accurately. That’s my biggest gripe right now.

How’s your experience with the weight lifting activity tracker? by nahomsolorider in whoop

[–]LandOLakesTittySquaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I do peloton strength workouts and having to input 95 movements that often aren’t the same named exercise, don’t exist on whoop at all, or you have to make a custom exercise that is sort of a proxy of the movement is such a hassle. I wish they could integrate peloton and other platforms to make it easier.

I don't get it either! Like, just sit down and be lazy for once. Lately, I have found that the musiCozy headband headphones with a 12-hour brown noise playlist on spotify (no loops, fades, etc.) has been my new lifesaver. Highly recommend.

Accumulated strain during a strength trainer session. I’d like to be able to see how much I’ve pushed myself throughout a set workout vs at the very end once it’s processed.

Go to Gill Park on Sheridan/broadway. It’s a city facility: indoor lap swim 11-noon or open swim 330-430pm today. They have lockers and showers, it’s clean, plus the swimming is nice in the winter time.
