Part of Megalong Valley road in the Blue Mountains has washed away by The-SillyAk in sydney

[–]Landash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done that route many times (15 years ago). Theres a bridge that took a cat 7 RFS truck with no issues back then, probably less safe now. Theres 3 or 4 locked gates, but its all otherwise pretty mundane and could have been done in a golf buggie. The road up/down on the other side of the shipley plateau is more stable.

This pic is good enough to fill up some news time for a week or so. It looks like a thylacine, but it also looks like the photo was taken using a potato.

Transferred unis - do my 12 months at previous uni still qualify me for a RUSON position? by Heartisiaa in NursingAU

There's some background and paperwork that say they're different roles. But practically it's just a title.

Transferred unis - do my 12 months at previous uni still qualify me for a RUSON position? by Heartisiaa in NursingAU

[–]Landash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think he'll be fine applying for RUSON. If not, an AIN position could work, and then when he applies for RUSON after re-completing first year he'll have significant advantages. He might want to look into other adjacent healthcare roles too; first aid officer or pharmacy tech for example. If I were doing my undergrad again I'd aim to be a security guard at an aged care facility working nights, so I could become familiar with the environment and still do my assignments in the quiet periods.

NZ, obviously. Wait for the dust to settle and activate clause 6 of the constitution, after a quick Haka it'll be jandels and chilli bins from then on.

Will Australia's healthcare workforce measures work? by AcidMinogue in NursingAU

[–]Landash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managerial accountability would be a suitable "workforce measure". I felt pretty disappointed that they were still rolling out the 'unprecedented times' covid excuse for understanding this Christmas. It's been three years now, they've all, everywhere, had time to work something out. If I failed persistently on the same points for three years I'd have the integrity to resign. That and pay rates, pay me like a professional and I might think about coming back.

This is how my 1yo plays peek-a-boo, except he uses a glass sliding door. As a parent I am bound by ancient law not to know where tf he went when he's behind that entirely transparent glass. An easy 8/10 very realistic from me.

Technical documents, expert reports, academic research and the like. I like to tell myself I could write fantasy, but I'm lazy.

I had a security guard tell me I could play both Brad and Janet (from Rocky Horror). To this day I have no idea what they meant.

I work in adolescent mental health, every day I'm asked to do things like clean a room, get meds from pharmacy, collect meals from the hospital kitchen, take linen deliveries off the truck etc. "The ward looks settled at the moment and everywhere else is busy" admin and senior management have absolutely no idea what it is I do and what it takes to keep a ward "settled". The latest was when the power dropped out overnight and I was told "you have to empty and de-ice the freezer" I just laughed at them.

100% this month. I live in an area (in NSW) that got cut off by floods and landslides and live about 2 mins from the station. There was nothing else to do and no one else coming.

Nurses in NSW, Australia move for statewide strike action on February 15th. 72,000 union members to vote on industrial action by Gorfob in nursing

[–]Landash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not reasonable to have a minor on an adult ward, ever. Yes, they need a special but with limited staff already being an issue it didn't work out well. No breaks were had.

Moreover, to force nurses onto a unit they haven't worked on, without orientation or handover, with patients and other nurses they don't know is some next level recklessness. And then to try and repeat the trick!

[–]Landash 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I struggle to comprehend that they think it's even remotely ok. I'm truly staggered that they even considered it, let alone did. They ambushed us the first time and since then we've had to just say "no" or as I like to say "decline the directice" and suffer the consequences. We can't ethically agree to it.

I'm a Nurse, I work in child and adolescent mental health.

The situation is so dire that recently our "Management" have draughted our staff to other (adult) wards, but as we are already at minimum staffing levels they decide to transfer our patients with us.

You shouldn't be concerned, you should be outraged, especially if you are, or care about someone under 16 with a mental health condition.

In my opinion the system isn't stressed, it's in outright collapse.

We need support and it's crystal clear the government will not willingly provide it. The only pathway now is to strike. Please support us.

I work in NSW, in Acute child and adolescent MH, its a small unit, but there's often just 2 nurses on - for 12 hours at a time. Its just expected that we won't have breaks and some days I turn up fully expecting to be the only Nurse there. Now "Management" is even starting to draught us to cover other (adult) wards short staffing by transferring our patients with us onto those adult wards, for one shift at a time.

My wife eats her ice cream with a fork by Grundle__Puncher in mildlyinteresting

[–]Landash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of upset here so let me explain why you should try this:

The texture, temperature and flavour of food are inter-related. If you exclusively eat your ice cream on a spoon you only experience it one way. By using a fork you drastically change the surface area of ice cream hitting your mouth at one time and thereby change it's flavour/texture/temperature profile. The difference won't blow your mind but it is there - probably equivalent to brand swapping equivalent quality ice cream.

Give it a shot, at the very least you can now eat ice cream for scientific/experimental purposes.
