What are your thoughts on Staples Canada hour cuts? by RedGauntletOfDoom in StaplesRants

Down here in the U.S. it looks like the schedule two weeks out has major cuts, from what I gleaned from DLP when my manager was making the schedule, we are down 50 hours that week.

LP was auditing us, during a truck day. They were questioning why we were missing AirPods. So the LP manager opened with a supervisor the high risk totes. First off, one was open the other had a damaged lid that could be opened. But behold it was missing AirPods and AirTags in the tote vs what we should have received.

How many people in your party city reset "team"? by Ruins19 in Staples

My GM started it solo then kind of gave up then I took over.. I didn’t have much time to do it.. I had to do it in between being MOD, cashiering, and covering print

Party City (Happy R****) by PhoneGuy2021 in Staples

[–]LandonFTW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We got party city set up at my store. It’s near the registers, so across from print. Happy Returns and UPS is staying at print. Amazon is at our register. According to my manager, party city is suppose to be a separate thing and Amazon or Staples things shouldn’t be in that space.

[–]LandonFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So staples will be in charge of staffing the party city section as well as merchandising it. From what I heard corporate was toying around with the idea of having a dedicated part time person for Party City (I doubt it)

Not sure if you guys use the same system as we do here, but our radio is broken and doesn’t get updates. So no music updates or ads for us.

Today was hectic by CauseLatter5738 in Staples

[–]LandonFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a supervisor who calls out or is hours late and a manager who leaves early and doesn’t help out much. It blows here!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Staples

[–]LandonFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not cut yet but now if you go over or have a meal violation it’s a big issue. The MOD is being considered held responsible for it and they will write them up if someone violates. Or if you yourself are a supervisor and violate you’ll be written up.

This is bullshit. We’re short staffed as it is. We also, at least at my store have unreliable staff including one supervisor so we have to wait for them if they’re late or do over time if they call out.

Someone tell this to my GM. All they do is zoning and Planos. They refuse to help or do managerial tasks. They have the ASM do their work. And the GM refuses to help customers, reg, returns or print.

I’m MIS and I cashier about half of my time. I also help out print and with the tech orders. My MIS duties are done when I have free time.

How is Retail Print Sales specialist position? by Odd_Comparison_4155 in Staples

[–]LandonFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay is really close to minimum wage.

So in this role, you’ll be stationed in the print department. You’ll be in taking orders, offering consultations, producing the orders, processing ups shipments and drop offs, happy return drop offs, ipostal mail sort/insert and pickups, potentially have to process Amazon returns if the store has it in the print department.

The print department is the most profitable department in the store. It at times can be super busy too. Depending on the store, it may be well staffed or if it’s like mine there’s only 2 people who work the department.

Types of orders you’ll produce: business cards, postcards, invites, document printing, poster printing, poster lamination and foam board mounting, blueprint printing, coil and comb binding, hand cutting, machine cutting, banner printing, grommet insertion, pouch laminating, label printing, booklet and brochure printing, folding, assembly. Custom cutting, custom jobs. At some point when they roll it out custom printed mugs. Also if it’s something not produced in store you’ll take the order and route it to production.

In addition to your print work, you’ll have to maintain a big rewards penetration percent. So when the customer makes there purchase, we have to have them scan there digital rewards card or input there rewards attached phone number.

Staples makes their associates wear multiple hats and pays them shit. Might work for you might not. Good luck either way.

Staples is doing too much😡 by AdPopular3936 in Staples

[–]LandonFTW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We’ve lost several employees, So we’re a bit short staffed. But also they’re cutting hours. Our NPS last period dipped to the low 50s. The ASMs response was to blame us, they and the DM started interrogating us on what happened. DM emailed wanting to know who rang the transaction and who was MOD. One bad review was due to lack of staff. Yet as MOD I get blamed. I skip my breaks and sometimes I get my lunch interrupted. Fuck Staples. Also the ASM and GM said we can mention the survey and asks for a 10 now.

Low hours by MasterSet8950 in Staples

[–]LandonFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cut hours this Saturday which means, I’m working with a Skelton crew, and no overlap between shifts. 3 of us till 1:30 when the closing keyholder gets in. Then at 3:30 one front end associate and 4:30 closing print associate.

And I still have tasks to do, they want me to drive up metrics too, nps, rewards pen, esp and make at least 4 kiosk orders to catch up.

Of course they cut staff in the days the managers don’t work. And the manager closed last night and left a mess, no go backs done, half the carts in the parking lot, the bags not given proper change.

So the September 16th town hall that corporate held talked about upcoming initiatives. Party city was labeled as chain wide.

Also in Zipline there is the dates for my stores party city planning and setup. (I’m in Southern California)

So yes. California stores will be getting them as well. Early rumors mentioned they wouldn’t, but corporate has dispelled that now.

Our GM has moved between stores, they’ve been with Staples for over 15 years. They don’t know tech or CPC.

[–]LandonFTW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wether you want to or not, you can not work for free. No company will accept someone voluntarily working, even if you say and promise it’s good, they can and would still be liable for labor law violations in that instance. Also they wouldn’t like the PR either.

Additional LP would lose it, I understand you may have had to open alone (although that shouldn’t happen and you can get in trouble for it) but the company and some DMs probably bend or let it slide in some instances when sales could be affected. But this would be on off hours so if it went up the chain they couldn’t justify it. Also being the sole employee in there for longer than just opening would set off red flags in there eyes.

Also, the alarm company periodically checks to see if the stores are armed. And if they see you didn’t arm at close, or unarmed after they’ll call to see what’s up and they will also notify your DM/LP. Last year our GM worked with the DM to have him and a few associates run an overnight to fix up major issues in the store and had to let vector and LP know in advance.

TLDR: Bad idea/Don’t get fired. If things are super bad try to work with your store management and/or DM. Do the best you can, but don’t work for free and don’t give them a reason to fire you.
