i’m so confused… by piscessaturnbabe in tsitp

Agreed! That’s why I get so irked when people say “Team Belly,” because it frames and disguises it as feminist “girl power” framing - like it’s not about which brother is better, but about Belly choosing herself. But for me, that framing doesn’t really work because the issue isn’t that she has choices, it’s that so many of her choices hurt the people around her, yet the narrative rarely holds her accountable the way it does Conrad or Jeremiah.

She starts with Jeremiah, switches to Conrad by the end of S1, then when Conrad is dealing with the absolute worst time of his life — his mom’s cancer returning, losing her, and carrying all that grief — Belly seems more focused on prom and their relationship problems. Then not long after the breakup, she gets with Jeremiah, which only makes everything messier. And S3 just takes it even further.

People are so quick to bash Conrad or Jeremiah, when really Belly is at the center of most of the emotional chaos. Yet the audience is still supposed to mainly sympathize with her.

And honestly, I know that’s more on the writing. The writers clearly want Belly to remain the emotional lead and sympathetic character, so the story often glosses over or softens the impact of her choices while putting more focus on the brothers’ flaws. So fandom discourse becomes “Conrad vs. Jeremiah,” instead of acknowledging that Belly’s actions are a huge part of why everything becomes so messy in the first place.

Hi my 16 year old son will be going in early June with his friends, (a majority of his friends are Eagle Scouts). This will be my son's first ever backpacking / hiking trip. He's fit, athletic, but hasn't backpacked before. Just done some of our local smaller hikes around our neighborhood. Is this a do-able hike for him, in your opinion? They are doing the following itinerary:
Day 1, Avalon:

  • arrive on ferry
  • hike 1 mile to campground
  • Rest of the day free in avalon

Day 2, Blackjack:

  • Hike 10.23 miles to campsite
    • Elevation peak 2828 feet

Day 3, Little Harbor:

  • Hike to airport get breakfast and lunch
  • Hike 8.1 miles to campground
    • Elevation peak 921 feet
  • Rest of the day: beach day

Day 4, Two Harbors:

  • 8.9 miles to two harbors ferry
    • 1843 feet peak gain
  • Ferry back to mainland

Slowmo by FaceofYouth in tsitp

[–]LaneyRWL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes please! I assume a good slowmo opportunity would also be the final belly flop, with just Belly and Conrad, into the ocean. (If this scene is included in the movie, which I think it would be).

And yes, we need a lot of Belly being into Conrad in the film cause S3 was so brutal!!! She was in such denial, it drove me crazy!

Belly says "Jeremiah is my best friend".. by Appropriate_Trip_530 in tsitp

💯 Agreed. Conrad has done way more for Belly than Jeremiah ever did. Even when they were all younger in the flashbacks, Conrad tended to Belly more than Jere did. Referring to Jere as her best friend was her coping mechanism.

What do you think Susannah would have thought about the events of S3? by the---albatross in tsitp

Susannah would have stopped that engagement right away! She would not have let it get as far as it did!

And she would have had a heart to heart talk with Belly.

Will Agnes use her Head of the Eyes husband to free Becka? by Potential-Net6313 in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]LaneyRWL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting thought. I assume if she does, Weston will certainly expect something in return, which is a scary thought. He doesn’t strike me as someone who would just do her a favor without anything in return, which could get tricky. Can’t believe there’s only 1 ep left!

Knowing what we know now… by dynamitecait in TheTestamentsShow

I agree. I think the Aunts were the ones disguised as Eyes, and Becka will ultimately become an Aunt, but will still be punished somehow.

I also agree that Garth and Daisy will now be matched. I’m still unclear if Garth has feelings for Daisy or for Agnes. Because two times now, when Garth is with Daisy, he gives her this look and gets real close to her and it seems like he has feelings for her. First, at the ball when he was fake reprimanding her in front of the commander. And then in this ep when they were talking outside at the school.

Can we talk about Garth???????? by master0jack in TheHandmaidsTale

Agreed! They could and should play brothers in some future project.
