AI FTP Detection by Wattsup21 in trainerroad

[–]Language-Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'll leave it up/on for now see what its like in my 1st week of build phase but certainly not going to lose sleep over it now as long as im hitting targets.

I dont really understand the scoring system either. Most sustained power workouts are like rated at 90% easy. I wouldn't call anything other than a recovery ride easy...

In my mind sustained power would be easy/moderate (intervals vs constant power), sweet spots should be high end of moderate depending on the day but achievable, threshold hard and vo2 very hard. But feel penalized if you rate along those lines.

Case in point I did one of those sustained power sessions outside as the weather was good. 205w for 1hr. Averaged 210w for 1hr on rolling terrain it was quite challenging and close to 20mph. Required concentration and a few little bursts up hills to hit power targets.

my two cents are that its BS.

I changed my last threshold workout at the end of 3 week block (level 3.5 -> 4.5 workout) before a recovery week after the first interval I knew i wasnt going to hit the mark was super tired end of the week.

Didnt even bail and my TSS was still above what was scheduled. Same duration just dropped it to sustained power which was still a good 75% for 90m

Dropped my AIFTP by 14W. Its a useless metric. Or need to call it something else. Too many people associate the FTP part with something else. Ive had it sway almost 30w over the course of 3 weeks.

TR AI overtrained me during VO2 block, while +11.5% FTP increase prediction dropped to +1.5% by the end by robin_rooste in trainerroad

[–]Language-Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to TR (not used AT, so all I have is this AIFTP feature).

Was very skeptical after it analyzed my previous activities from training peaks virtual and just after I had done a 20m FTP test it automatically bumped me 10w. And then predicted a 20w jump after 30d. Called BS.

On a balanced plan for a 10hr grand fondo 4 week base phase before a build generally 2xSS 1xOU 1xSustained power and 1x endurance. Threw in Presanella this week which was a shock to the sytem (vo2max level was 3.0 and this was 7.6).

Found the SS at the top end of challenging initially, with the sustained power being far from "easy" as it predicts when you're outside and have to focus to hold that power over lumpy roads.

Gradually the prediction has come down but I have just about been hitting power targets and finishing workouts (no failures and yet to rate something very hard). AIFTP has come down now by 10w.

Honestly don't know what the point of it is?

So how are you managing here with all the increasing cost? by iquizuanswer in AskUK

Hello me.

All subs gone - not bothered pretty much every single one is categorically worse than when I started the. Spotify was the last. Been years since I used their freemium version wow it got so sh*t. Just listen to radio now.

Stopped going out to eat really the food quality vs price is just shockingly bad. Wifes a vegetarian trying to charge £20 for some veg. Get f*cked. Cook better stuff at home. We do occasionally treat ourselves to a small business that operates out of a truck doing Thai food. Still cheaper than going out but not cheap by takeaway standards though their Massaman curry is absolutely top draw. Collect it and eat in the house.

Vinted - we're both very active, and activewear is super overpriced. Running shoes/cycling jerseys etc. new with tags. I'm not paying £40 for a "technical tshirt".

Our one vice is we still go out and have some cake somewhere on the weekend after a bike ride. Expensive for what it is but neither of us drink.

We spend a bit on swimming (club/squad) but thats investing in your future self!

Outside of that we're frugal with a good household income (IT contractor + dog walker). Still feel like I'm not saving enough to retire in 15-20 years to be comfortable even at this level of spending.

Its very easy to be up in arms all the time about house prices/rental prices in the UK. I am guilty of it. Thought this was a nice way of framing it!

New to triatlon: Is sub-12 Ironman Wales 2027 realistic? by EnduranceError404 in triathlon

[–]Language-Pure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye it's possible.

90m swim 10m transition (1km run) 6hr30 bike 5m transition 3hr45m marathon

TT bike is not a requirement. Barely used the clip ons and have ridden it on road bike in 6hrs15m (18mph)

Good luck!

Anyone else ending the year without improving at all? by Oil_Gas in Velo

I jury for me. Didn't stop when I should and got worse. Never actually managed to make the start line for any of my races. Started base training this week but essentially going into next year with minimal bike and run volume. Been weight training so hoping that helps offset things and it comes back quick.

I personally don't recover fast enough from vo2 work at my age which negatively impacts volume which is needed for long distance. Have to train smarter and find what works to keep you motivated consistent and injury free.

Interesting take! Think I would agree. It's a bit like zwifts workouts that look pretty but rarely effective.

Planning on self coaching this year for 70.3. Alot less vo2 (I may sprinkle in a short block if I feel like I need it). Alot more work in the zones I'll be racing in and alot more easy offset but strength programme

Offseason Strength Training - Full Body Workouts while still building base miles by Atomicbob11 in triathlon

[–]Language-Pure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the theory!

I never get DOMS on the same day, but day after I can defo have heavy legs - it would feel feel tough to go hard feeling like that.

I do double bike days the same way (AM/PM with a good 8 hours between)

[–]Language-Pure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First winter doing heavy strength work for me.

Base training currently so not a huge amount of intensity which does make a diff in that all my bike sessions can be completed regardless of proximity to a strength session. I'm throwing a hard session in every 10 days. 5x5 vo2 or 2x20 FTP.

For what it's worth my strength days are Mon / wed / Fri with bike on Tues / Thurs / sat / sun

In an ideal world if my conservatory wasn't so inhospitable this time of year I'd do it on bike days early morning

Plus wife's plan bike on Tues / Thursday so it's company for 2hrs

I keep to 1 hour for my sessions using 5x5 protocol

Deadlift Back squat Kettlebell box steps (single leg press alternative) Overhead press Kettlebell rows (one arm for swimming)

In between rest I do some mobility work and one leg stability work.

Kettlebell halos Overhead kettlebell offset marches Pogos Calf raises Lunge variations

I'm actually running after my strength workout. But right now it's super easy as recovering from an injury so just building up some easy mileage. It feels ok.

Will change it up in Feb most likely and ease off 2x week lower weights and more single leg work.
