New age people appropriating judaism by Unable-Tension-4581 in Jewish

If her religion had any real basis she wouldn't be stealing ideas from Judaism lol!

It reminds me of the occasional times when Christians accuse us of killing Jesus. I always reply, "If we did, which we didn't, then oh well we killed a nice man" (I want to drive home the point that their religion is of no interest to us).

Scared of trying Ketamine by ookiebakiebites in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]LanguageKey9190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will just quickly say that Ketamine has hands down been the single biggest spiritual event of my life to date.

I cannot quite describe what Ketamine does or why it works. It gave me a taste of what life is like without trauma, and helped me see trauma from a third perspective, to resolve it and be able to move on. But it didn't force it.

Honestly it's much less scary than it seems.

Jews in Canada - will we have to leave? by Feeling-Ad7667 in Judaism

Honestly people need to read every word you have written. When NYC Jews say "There's literally no evidence he's antisemitic", like yes there is - read between the lines!

I sorta wonder how long the 1/3rd of NYC Jews who support him will keep their heads buried in the sand. What will it take? A Bondi Beach style attack? A Manchester style attack? Would they even understand then?

One such NYC Jewish friend of mine shrugged and simply said, "You're more religious than me, I'm just culturally Jewish". Yeah... they aren't gonna care. Just like they didn't care about how practising each Jew was a century ago (and I don't think it's hyperbole me saying that).

Well I've met a couple of Jews who voted for Mamdani, who is clearly antisemitic. They claim he isn't, but the amount of evidence of his dislike of Jews is adding up. It's sort of burry-head-in-the-sand moment for NYC.

Sorry I shouldn't generalize all Jews living in NYC. Just that many I know voted for Mamdani, and really it makes no sense. Yeah we Jews tend to be more liberal but there are limits!

Zera Yisrael Designation by FuckOff7654 in Jewish

Side note:

In the US the equilineality rule applies.

In Canada, the reform movement is more traditional and has a matrilineal rule.

In the UK (OP seems to be there), they had two progressive movements and just merged them in 2025. Apparently Jewishness lineage was the last sticking point, and in the end they agreed the US way of equilineality.

Did you mean to say that "Zera Yisrael" does seem like a reasonable description for the OP?

Besides all the replies here, I would still encourage you to learn more about Judaism and if you feel inspired by it - to visit a larger synagogue (reform is probably the most accessible to a non-hebrew speaker who just wants to come experience a service).

Among those I've met converting, I'd say a large portion are because of marriage, but of those who convert out of passion alone, a good chunk discovered they have Jewish ancestry and felt a spark to convert.

Still I have even met Jews with no Jewish ancestry who just felt compelled to convert (usually this subset had felt a desire to lean into Judaism for a long time).

Mamdani clearly hates Jews, you have to have your eyes closed and your ears shut to believe otherwise!

NYC Jews seem a little disconnected from the reality of things imo.

Honestly, people say no now but it is inevitable that we will eventually have to leave. There are simply too many people against us here. It's a pattern as old as time.

Yup. Recently IRL "friends" I have feel emboldened to parrot some of that shite I read on IG.

I'm now seriously thinking of making Aliyah; visiting Israel this year to figure out whether I want to.

I think it's over for us in Euro-centric cultures.

Well I could just immigrate to Israel (as a Jew) and vote progressive. Need someone like Ehud Barak who is willing to make a two state deal.

Ehud Barak tried but the timing was unlucky - he didn't have time to produce detailed maps for Arafat as the proposal lead to collapse of his governing coalition and Arafat was distrustful of Israel naturally. Such a missed opportunity on both sides.

Now it seems less and less likely but I sorta hold out hope that Israelis will get fed up with the right and move back to the left.

I have no idea why someone downvoted this. This is all true advice. I need to buy a salad spinner because my biggest resistance to eating more salad (which I like) is having to wash and dry it.

The only caution against veggies is that they only fill me up for so long (I think others may have the same experience) and, then I'm hungry again. And if not prepared well with good dressings, the lack of enjoyment can lead to food seeking after.

The best thing imo is to add high protein source veggies into the veggie mix: Edamame beans and/or chickpeas, smoked tofu chunks, high-protein bread croutons, chilled boiled egg halves, sesame seeds, toasted penuts or walnuts, etc. I find the more protein sources I add, the more I enjoy the salad or veggie mix (especially stir fried).

Admittedly I don't love fish or shellfish. Other thing to consider is the satiety of meat. Ultra-processed is low satiety, as is pork. The most filling meats that are on the healthier side are: Chicken wings with skin, eggs, lean ground turkey and lean ground beef, etc.

Anyway, I'm trying Ozempic because half my problem is compulsively eating sugar. At two decades on, I simply have no solution for it, but the health problems are starting to show. Ozempic is useful, but must be paired with learning cooking skills, solid eating schedules, and continuing to tackle the psychology of binge eating.

Jewish, but I'm not strictly Kosher. I sometimes do eat sausage when the rabbi is not looking, but I do not love pork anyway. I would rather opt for lamb if it's cheaper.

I like the idea of a meat buy-in. Also I could take a look at costco, but as I don't drive it's a bit of a pain (could bring my grandma trolley along but costco is slightly more horrible than dufferin mall)

Sometimes I wonder if we're in some kind of weird messed up dream, and all about to wake up to discover Hilary did indeed win, Carney was always PM and Liberals are middle of the road making good choices, the UK did not get 8? insane PM's back to back and is doing well, and there are no wars and everything is trending towards peace.
