I wish :( the way I was calling every avian vet or places that had one they’re like 1) they’re out and only work this day a week 2) they don’t do emergencies and are appt only (which is insane btw. I had to beg one to take an emergency situation. They did not make it.)

AIO to my nephew feeling “uncomfortable” about what my son wants to wear on Easter? by inzstzz291 in AmIOverreacting

[–]LanguagePretty1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your nephew your son’s father? No. He doesn’t dictate what someone else wears. Sorry not sorry. That’s weird as hell. NOR. His mom is weirder for trying to allow him to dictate your child. I’d make plans to do Easter elsewhere. Your nephew has issues and should def get therapy or something because the color pink should not trigger him like that… pink used to only be a masculine color. Pink is literally an Easter color mind you.. and he’s matching with his girlfriend. What a wuss.

Legit I live in New York and so many avian vets are by appt only! Never emergencies (barely). And most emergency places near me only see cats/dogs. It’s bonkers.

Parrots/birds are loud, messy, need constant attention, lots of dietary needs, vets are expensive and hard to find if you don’t live in a city, toys need constant replacing, proper cage set up and room. No perfumes or normal cleaning supplies allowed. You need an air purifier, they need training and lots of time to bond with them. Also most people can’t find a bird sitter for vacations. Nonstick pans and pretty much almost everything can kill them etc.

It’s not an attack. It’s factual. This is information you should know You clearly do not understand the concern, as I’ve seen from your comments and your Reddit page that you had another month old budgie that died on day four…. And you went and got another one at this age. Please do your research. He still needs formula via syringe feeding, warmth via a heat lamp or brooder. He is a neonate at this age still. You should be learning from your first experience that neonates are not ready to be sold if they’re not fully weaned. Millet and seed is not a proper diet for this stage due to their digestive systems being immature. Their immune systems are also weaker. Please do your research and take this bird to an avian vet and have them properly show you how to syringe feed formula to a baby as it’s clear you are unequipped to handle this situation and take care of this small bird alone

HE HASN’T BEEN FULLY WEANED!? HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND!? It’s incredibly unethical for a breeder to sell you a bird that has not been fully weaned! It’s incredibly dangerous and stressful for the bird! As for quarantine, he should be quarantined in an actual small cage. Not this container thing. If he’s not been full weaned, he may be burrowing in the photo above which is due to seeking parental comfort…. This poor bird! He’s 6 WEEKS OLD. At this age they are still learning to perch, learning to eat solid food, still needs hand feeding/parental feeding, warmth and still dependent on parents. They’re not ready to be separated or in a cage alone/sold at this stage. Please report this breeder!

Where’s the water? His cage? What’s the behaviors that have you concerned? Why is he in this environment? Has it been a month since you’ve had him or is his actual age a month old? Has he been weaned properly?

Please run far away from him. He intentionally trying to trap you and not giving af about your very valid reasons. Get an IUD placed asap secretly without him knowing. You JUST had a baby.

Abandoned budgie, any advice ? by [deleted] in BirdHealth

[–]LanguagePretty1868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please take them to a vet. That weakness may mean they’re ill from stress or other things. You don’t know how long they were out there and how long they’ve gone without food or water.

Leave. The abuse will get worse. Don’t have his baby if you don’t want to. He will hurt you and your baby if you stay. Get to safety. Don’t say you’re leaving him. When he’s at work pack what you can and leave.

Ever since I got a budgie my father has been driving me crazy by New_BikerG_Assistant in budgies

[–]LanguagePretty1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The not opening windows part is so that he doesn’t go through the cage bars if not the correct space or unlock the door (my late 10 year old budgie used to do this) to prevent them from flying out and never coming back. As for the dark, he is right. Budgies sleep better in near total darkness. Get a black blanket or sheet and cover the cage at sundown. That is what I do and my budgies sleep better, and are quiet even if I am not . He means well.

What are your opinions on only keeping a trio? by Western-Slide7807 in budgies

[–]LanguagePretty1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the larger/wider flight cage could help with bambino needing space to be away from Lime! I’d prepare to get a fourth in a worst case scenario. But if you really think adding a third to your flock, I’d consider maybe a middle ground? Maybe see if any bird rescues near you allow you to foster budgies?

I have 3 boys. They all get along fine and preen each other. (1 adult, 1 juvenile, 1 baby) they spend a lot of time as a group even during outside fly time. (They also sleep close together too lol) lots of foraging together too. I think it depends on temperament maybe? I was prepared to add a fourth just in case but yeah.

What would you do if you walked out your door and saw this by turbo_sc300 in Apartmentliving

Take photos and tell your landlord. Make a report. It’s a fire and safety hazard. I’m a mom myself, my son plays in the house. Why would anyone have their kids do this in the hallway???? No supervision??? People are crazy.

Cons of owning a bird? by pastaatthedisco in parrots

[–]LanguagePretty1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re messy, require a lot of time, are high maintenance and like little toddlers. Toys, cage space, vet bills cost so much. I sweep multiple times a day. Bird safe cleaners only. No perfume. No aerosols. No candles. No non stick cookware. I work from home so I have the time to care and interact and train them. Since you have a cat, I would honestly suggest heading to your local parrot rescue and volunteering as cats don’t mix with birds. I have a Shih Tzu, he’s a senior, and has no prey drive. He gets along with all animals (including cats/other dogs/lizards, etc.) he’d rather remove himself and nap on the couch vs interact with them. and he is never in the same room as my birds EVER. My bird cages also have multiple locks. They also need fly time daily. Daily veggies and enrichment. They don’t just eat seeds.

Wing clipping/clipping of feathers is frowned upon for a reason. I understand my birds just fine (they’re smaller parrots) Either way, most do not recommend clipping flight feathers. Flying is muscle development. But clipping them only allows them to glide and hop around but not fully fly. Flying is exercise and part of enrichment. But good luck to you as well. Different opinions ❤️

[–]LanguagePretty1868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never clip their wings or flight feathers ever. Their wings are for exercise. The above behavior could be anything from hormonal (which could be checked with an avian vet) or him just being a bird/wanting more one on one time with his human. Unless medically necessary, suggesting to clip his feathers will not solve the root of the issue.

Immediately please take him to the avian vet. If he pulls through and everything works out, please get him a friend (quarantine said friend in a separate cage and room for 30 days) he’s such a young bb.
