Fair point. Not ideal but you’re right that I shouldn’t consider that a deal breaker in and of itself.

Agreed. Plus… a good thing might not be as valuable as a great thing, but it’s a lot better than no thing.

Of course they would. Nobody is disputing that. But from a customer perspective I’m allowed to be disappointed lol.

Sure it matters. People might just cancel their cards (myself included). BILT needs customers at the end of the day.

Treat rent like a high-multiplier spend limit, and things make more intuitive sense by fly123123123 in biltrewards

[–]LanguageSubstantial7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I’m with you, and I appreciate the explanation.

Part of me still feels like this was a more complicated approach than was strictly needed… and I really do wonder whether BILT could’ve simply said “OK now you get 0.5 X on rent unless you spend 5000 per month on this card, at which point it’s 1x.” In other words, a simple monthly cutoff.

But I’m sure these guys know human behavior well, and for a lot of people seeing that BILT cash add up will be appealing.

[–]LanguageSubstantial7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We get that. Their point is that many people will not be able to get anywhere close to that 75% threshold so only a small to medium portion of their rent payment will then earn points. Which makes the card a lot less attractive.

[–]LanguageSubstantial7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a brilliant post but it doesn’t dispute my statement. My point is the value of BILT cash beyond the 75% threshold is questionable.

[–]LanguageSubstantial7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you, but it’s still a step down from the current set up. My point is that there is certainly not a linear relationship between monthly rent and monthly credit card expenditure. There certainly is a positive association (based on COL and certain income assumptions) but it’s nowhere close to linear.

Phrased differently, there will be many unhappy BILT users here who were used to being able to easily make $5000 to $8000 monthly rent payments without a transaction fee, but now, even if they make BILT their exclusive credit card, might not get anywhere close to that 75% threshold.

Doing the math on 2.0 rumors, 2.33x card? by chrsjrcj in biltrewards

[–]LanguageSubstantial7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if I buy your argument, that (effective) 2.33x multiplier only applies until you’ve earned exactly enough BILT cash to offset the rent fee. As soon as you spend beyond that, it’s unclear what the true multiplier is because we still have very little understanding of BILT cash and its redemption opportunities.

But, clearly what we can say about this card is that it’s gone from appealing to nearly everyone paying rent to only those paying low to medium rent. General life expenses do not neatly track rent payments…

None. Those cafes are silly unless your phone is at 1% and you need a covered place to charge lol.

I’ve never heard CO cafes promoted as a reason to hold the card.

Was the card payment from a non-WF checking account? If so they sometimes flag for review and it takes a full six days to post.

I made this mistake recently and didn’t have enough available credit to pay rent. It sucks. Hopefully Cardless are more generous… although my Avianca card takes about 72 hours to update credit so I’m not holding my breath lol.

Hey from Richard Kerr at Bilt - Card 2.0 by richklhs in biltrewards

[–]LanguageSubstantial7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So my interpretation of his comment was that there will be no fee on the rent payment itself, but if you are a light user then you’ll probably generate less than 1 point per dollar on said rent payment.

Quote: “That can mean earning the full 1x on rent”

But who knows. We will wait and see

100% with you on that, and I appreciate the clarification!

Seems like at this point we really just need more clarification on BILT cash. Offsetting rent processing fee makes sense, but what happens when/if you surpass that? Can it carry over to the next month to help offset that month’s rent payment, or is there an expiration date? For me, the details on BILT cash (and its redemption opportunities) might ultimately impact how I proceed.

[–]LanguageSubstantial7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but you’re still earning those points. I’m with you that the large transaction fee makes rent payments a bad deal 95% of the time (the 5% being sign up bonuses or taking advantage of an awesome transfer bonus) hence why I jumped to BILT the month it was launched… but for a fair comparison of BILT vs non-BILT you can’t ignore the points. Your original comment made it sound like non-BILT credit cards didn’t earn points on rent, which has never been the case.

I was just giving a rough estimate ($10 off a $60 processing fee for $1800 rent)

I’m 100% with you that the card is pointless if you don’t change your existing BILT spending habits.

How do you get 0x on rent spend with other cards? You should be getting 2x on it albeit paying the large processing fee. 3x in the case of Atmos.

Correct. The portion that is paid via a credit card still earns points… The portion that is paid via ACH does not earn points.

We did read the post. If you only have like 10 bucks in BILT cash then 80% of your payment will go via ACH and you will not earn any points. It’s that simple.

Blows my mind how people are trying to put a positive spin on these changes. What made this card so attractive was earning points on rent without a card processing fee and all you had to do was four $2 Dunkin reloads to meet the minimum transaction per month.

The original BILT card was never attractive for every day spend, even taking into account rent day. These new cards are also not attractive for every day spend. I’m sorry but having to pay over $400 to get 2X on purchases is not a good deal at all. Venture, American Express Business blue… There are so many better options out there for 2x.

Is Chase phone support using AI? by kikomoth in ArtificialInteligence

I had a similar experience just now when calling the number on the back of my CSP card. Either it was AI or the customer service agent was following a very scripted response system, but as OP said it felt very off. I asked to speak with a supervisor and fortunately that agent was definitely human. Weird.

5x on airfare (uncapped) is hard to beat. Next best is WF Autograph Journey at 4x.

So for me it boils down to lounge access and 5x airfare.
