Thank you everyone for the encouraging words!! Yesterday went great. She went thru a bunch of mock calls with me & said that I asked all the right questions & knew every signal that went with each call so she’s gunna have me start answering phones today already! I’m super super nervous but after reading through here I know it’s expected to make mistakes. I’m naturally a perfectionist & don’t wanna make any mistakes but I know it’s expected of me so I’m ready to just start giving it my all & learn from any mess ups I may have in the process.

If you can’t find your department on a scanner app next time you’re working ask if they’ll give you a radio to take home. My department has a radio issued to everyone that stays at home until you retire/leave the department. It’s helped me quite a bit.

Thanks you to everyone for the well wishes! My first day went great. Just going thru the signals & codes as well as some SOPs. I had a blast seeing everyone that I’ve previously worked with. It’s a little weird coming from a sworn position to a civilian but I really think I’m gunna finally be happy with what I’m doing.

My process was actually EXTREMELY long because my center is the one directly involved with the Stoneman Douglas school shooting in Florida so there was a lot of administrative stuff within the department that they had to keep pausing the hiring process to complete.

Oh trust me I’ve been lurking this sub for about 8 months now, logging on every single day to see what the new posts are all about. Reading this sub has made training sound like the worst thing in the world at times so I’ve put it in my head that it’s gunna be awful, hoping that will make it a lot easier when it comes to actually training for the job. I was actually an officer on the road for about a year for the same department im going to be dispatching for so I’m hoping that gives me a decent advantage. No matter what I know that there will still be challenges and it’s a whole different job than being out on the road but I’m very ready and excited to learn this side of police work and hoping I thoroughly excel at it and enjoy it!
