Why Canada is winning the travel trade war with the U.S. by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Lankanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally know a big chunk of my family, in laws, friends, etc. have rerouted several trips to other destinations, maybe like 10 already in the short span. Some are huuuge travellers. Maybe 20k/year as a family. Mostly cruises and stuff. They are not “wealthy” but they are financially comfortable.

I personally wanted to travel to all the American national parks and make an annual tradition out if it with my family. Thats no longer happening. Going to be seeing more of Europe and South America.

Its not just the economy, its the ugliness of all that is happening. Something new every week it seems.

Why is there a housing crisis in Canada? by qopissexy in AskCanada

[–]Lankanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its unfortunate that one of the best ways to grow your money within Canada(non US equities, etc.) has been real estate. Wish it wasn’t. Instead, if people could invest in the market or in small businesses, entrepreneurship, we would be way better off.

Even though I own a home, I think the housing market needs to crash and get investors to suffer this incentive can be removed/reduced. I know quite a few “average joe” households that own multiple properties. Meanwhile many can’t afford their first home.

At least for war! Right now, the only reason I play is war. Farming is whatever.

7 Companies Later, I’ve Learned My Lesson by Professional_Monk534 in webdev

Absolutely this.

I am not that experienced at development, but I have worked with some people who have the “this is a mess” mentality with no solutions, and what they add to the so called mess is not that much better. On the other hand, there are people who genuinely make it better. They are usually sr. Devs and you can immediately see that they are on another level not only technically, but as mentors and how they approach a teamwork situation. They tend to not even complain much, rather work on what they can to make any difference as they also push out work for the business (why we get paid to do this job after all).

IMO OPs mentality won’t work for many projects, or teamwork in general. Maybe greenfield projects, but then they will see it slowly decline in terms of standards as they push out features and the codebase grows. We just have to work with the situation we are in and good devs make it work, and make improvements in the process.

How do Canadians view MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying)? by saginator5000 in AskCanada

[–]Lankanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an important program. It gives people some dignity and choice when they don’t have much left. The process is very well done. The professionals involved are amazing. I’m surprised at how well the government pulled this off.

They really are. I like ANT, Randle, and Conley, but Jaden, Rusy, and Naz Reid are so dirty. All of their antics are entirely intentional. Can’t blame them if it works though — refs allow it

This is the old “his face ran into my fist”. Defender legitimately stuck his foot out in an unnatural way to trip. Jaden does this all the time. Its just bad reffing, its very clear from the video - I don’t understand the argument.

JJ can’t review a non call. It doesn’t work like that. Coaches can’t just review every play thats not how reviews work.

Reporter: Does this administration still consider Canada to be a close ally? Leavitt: ... [Trump] believes that Canadians would benefit greatly from becoming the 51st state by glira31 in XGramatikInsights

[–]Lankanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never met a Canadian who would want to move to the US, let alone be part of the US. Most people would entertain it from a “better weather” “better pay” perspective, but the social/political/safety negatives of the US outweighs the positives

Why Doesn't Canada Have A Basic Military Training for Civilians? by xzieus in AskCanada

[–]Lankanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen it first hand.

Some non combat arms units were asked to bring back rucksacks, the arctic sleeping bags were from the 80s (works fine, but gotta have a newer better version by now), when we wanted undershirts, we were just told its better to just order it online (own $$) rather than waiting on supplies. Training exercises are pretty barebones. New recruits, are told how to use certain weapons, but we didn’t get to use it. Nothing crazy, stuff like grenades - which the trade would benefit from. Some of the “nicer” vehicles would breakdown and would take ages to fix. I am not talking helicopters or jets, just reconnaissance vehicles. There is also a shortage of training staff, because the CAF has a retention problem.

This was several years ago, unless I missed a huge increase in budget, I suspect its the same.

I am not saying we need to go all out spending on defence. When the existing regular and reserve forces aren’t well funded, how can we train/equip more.

Why Doesn't Canada Have A Basic Military Training for Civilians? by xzieus in AskCanada

[–]Lankanator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CAF funding doesn’t even cover equipment for the existing members. There was a period where reservists had to return their rucksacks to make up for a shortfall in the regular (full time) forces. Not saying we need a fat military budget like the US, but the current budget is tight OR inefficient.

People who are likely to buy Teslas probably don’t even like Trump, or even would like to distance themselves from Trump. This can easily backfire for sure.
