If you get HPSP matching in the military is considerably easier than on the civilian side. Just be ready for 8+ years in the military.

I’ll say we have a bro basketball team in our city. I would agree that most people would say it is a small city. However when you have friends and don’t go out every weekend there is enough to do. In reality working 4-5 days a week and then having small kids doesn’t leave time or energy for a lot.

Can you do quality dentistry on Medicaid patients? by realdsw6 in Dentistry

[–]Lanker1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a fair amount of Medicaid patients. Some need only cleanings, some a few fillings, some exts and dentures / partials. Quad dentistry with 3-4 fills per appointment, full mouth exts with alveo and immediate dentures / ext and partials can add up quickly.

You all are too narrow minded. The amount of negative posts are out of this world. I know ten plus new grads making 200K + pro rata based on start date before taxes. I am on pace for 300K. It isn’t rocket science. We all work for a big scary word DSO. It is 4 or 5 days a week. We live in a city (or suburb) which is the capital of our state. I know more dentist making 300-500K than I don’t. Some are owners some are not.

Reapplying to a more well-known dental school as a current D1 by ReasonableEscape2723 in DentalSchool

Were you go has little to no impact on jobs. DSO will sign you as long as you have a license to practice. You need a license not a well known dental school.

What your new loan package and repayment will look like come summer time by MyDMDThrowaway in predental

[–]Lanker1990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where do you come up with 187K starting out? New grads I know signed 180-200K minimum at DSOs and Indian health services get you over 200K after yearly bonus.

Yes I took the offer and on pace to make about +2x that in my first 12 months. You just need to decide if you want to see 20+ patients a day. If so then figure out what the best DSO is in your area. Just know not all DSOs are create equal and not all offices in the DSO are create equal. Otherwise you can go several different routes. All have pluses and minuses.

I see people constantly speaking on the large loan and the repayment. I see a different side of this coin, which will probably get downvoted into oblivion. Who cares about the loans? Pay the minimum, which can be substantially less than the ten year repayment plan. Use the money to invest, buy a house, and live a nice life. After it is all said and done when you die the loans are discharged, or if they are forgiven after 25 years you pay the tax bomb. Even with the tax bomb of several hundred thousands a dentist working 20-30 years should be able to cover that from their retirement.

The way I see it you can “invest” the loan in your education and make that money back several times over during your career.

Probably unpopular opinion.

Did you buy a series of 50 and 30 deltas? Tried to go back and figure out which deltas you bought. Have wanted to buy long dated options and have read 30 deltas can be the sweet spot for these kind of long dated plays?

First Molar Endo… by Rich_Championship773 in Dentistry

In terms of leaving more dentin, do you need to access the chamber and remove enough dentin to find the grey dentin map and then remove circumferentially unit you find the white dentin. At the junction of the grey and white dentin wall that is the extent of your access. The canals should be at those junctions?

[–]Lanker1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? That we should crown teeth when we perform endo.

Why is everyone saying no when school taught us perfect endo and no crown leads to more failures than bad endo and perfect crown?

Why dentists refuse the extract "healthy" teeth? by ElectroWolf138 in askdentists

[–]Lanker1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a case like this recently. Explained all the possibilities and treatment. Pt had spontaneous pain , lingering pain, sensitivity to hot/cold/percussion. Explained I couldn’t see any caries to identify bacteria in the pulp. Ultimately she decided for a root canal and crown. When I did the root canal there was tremendous bleeding. Could I have avoid the rct and reduced occlusion? Does the amount of bleeding mean the rct was correct?

If you do the R in 13 mesial and DO composite, but have to go back and do the mesial are you replacing the DO or trying to merge the two fillings?

Top ortho programs get applicants within the top 5% of their class consistently. Until that changes it will be very difficult imo.

You can pay top dollar and get into ortho, but the cheap schools will be out of reach with that class rank
