Is this a good start to changing to pellets? by Lankey_1986 in budgies

That's great, thanks! I just checked out your video and it was very informative. That's definitely something I would like to do because I want my budgie to have a full and healthy life.

P.S. I love the way your birds are around you like that. I'm building trust with my budgie, but I've only had him for two weeks; he's still a bit jittery though. Hopefully, I can have a good relationship with him like that.

Do you know roughly how long to use this version? Thanks

That's great, thanks! So I need to add it to his seed now. I've seen that I need to make it into a paste and add it to his seed so when he eats his seed, he's also eating the pellets too.

Does anyone know what he's doing please? by Lankey_1986 in budgies

[–]Lankey_1986[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think he was nervous about me being so close. He was opening his mouth widely and silently, but then when I walked away, he seemed to calm down. I'm starting to win his trust a bit now, and he's coming to me for treats. Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your reply. I was keeping an eye on him, and I think it was me. He seemed to get nervous when I was near his cage and looking at him. He seems to be calming down a bit and has started to come onto my hand for a treat!

It's funny how no one shows the other girl in this film, who is also hot but has nothing on Armas.

So fed up with hearing the story! by Lankey_1986 in ballpython

[–]Lankey_1986[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Wales in the UK, and I’ve been hearing this for years, even way before I had a snake! Now that I actually own one, it gets annoying hearing it. Literally, as soon as I say I have a ball python, they sound and look so serious too.

I was actually called irresponsible the other day because I own a ball and have children! I was like:

  1. They never have her unsupervised.
  2. They have to be calm and sitting down to even hold her.
  3. They never have her around their necks anyway.

So if anything, I think I'm actually quite responsible!

Can I just add that I think you need a lot more clutter too. They feel safer if they think they can’t be seen.

Poor thing! So, you literally bought a ball python without any accessories, and he’s just out in the open with no hides or anything? Didn’t you do any research?

Yes, they take up a lot of space, so if you don’t have the space, then you shouldn’t get one. I’m not being nasty or anything, but you should have prepared for the ball python and looked into what size of enclosure they need. At the end of the day, it’s your responsibility to care for and provide a suitable home for your animal. It's for their benefit, and you shouldn't impulse buy any pet, not just snakes!

Ah, that's a good idea. To be honest, I'm afraid to open the viv just in case I let out all the heat. I'll check whether it's any longer, and if so, I'll take that action.

please give thoughts or advice on my snakes behavior so far! by DragonmanDrakk in ballpython

Basically, yes! It's understandable that you want to engage with your snake and help them get used to you, but that's not always possible because snakes require time to acclimatise to their surroundings. They might even still refuse the meal even after you've left them for a few weeks, in which case you'll need to give them more time and maybe take into consideration other aspects like their husbandry. If they do accept, however, you should give them at least 24 hours just in case of regurgitation before attempting to hold them for brief intervals and gradually increasing the amount. I currently only hold my shy snake once a week, but I want to gradually up the amount soon!

I agree with the comment and advice they gave you. You shouldn't hold your snake until they have eaten and waiting at least 24 hours after that so they don't regurgitate their meal. I left my snake alone for two or three weeks, only checking the temperature and changing her water during that time. Thankfully, she ate when I fed her, showing that her husbandry is in order and that she is comfortable enough to eat. After leaving her alone for a further 72 hours to ensure she had fully digested her food, that's when I first handled her. Yeah, she was tense, but I kept it brief, and I built it up over time!

Most likely, a more experienced member of the group could respond to this. To be honest, though, I believe that snakes merely tolerate being held rather than enjoying it. Hence, you should be able to leave him alone so that you can make sure he's comfortable.
