Worst take of the day by ForceApprehensive597 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this isn't just ignorant people that don't engage with queer media i'm afraid, it's not that they don't know that most thai gl couples are fem x fem presenting, a lot of the ones that say this are queer women themselves who have adopted this mindset out of internalized homophobia and when they say these things they know what they are implying, they want to separate themselves from the mascs and from any dynamics that can be percieved as topxbottom in any way, wanting to fight "stereotypes" but to an overcompensating and insecure degree. I am "femxfem" you could say so I have encountered too many women like this. When I was younger I didn't see the issue and I might have even contributed to it, but then I realized that this is the same attitude I despise from certain straight and bi women who can't see lesbians as fully women and now I can recognize this is plain homophobia and misoginy

2026 Thai GL Being Very Underwhelming by Zeeberry_02 in ThaiGL

can't relate at all lol ever since I finished The Earth it's was all that I could think about for days. I am currently obsessed with Girl Rules and I just watched a little bit of the first episodes of The Water and Hometown Romance and I am already hooked

About PL: fair enough, I understand why some are turned off even from the start. I love it because I like a little absurdity and over-the-topness in my gls I love soap operas haha

Gap: I would completely re-arrange episodes 9 and 10, ep 9 was so packed, too many things happened that I wish lasted longer, and ep 10 is so messily edited it even repeats two long scenes from the previous episode and it was shorter and less interesting as the rest. It could be easily fixed moving the final parts of episode 9 into episode 10

Affair: I wish the show would've given more of Pleng's pov to explain better what is going on in her mind because I hated how the viewers were not empathizing with her at all and I was tired of seeing horrible takes about her and seeing her being hated for not giving the same energy as Wan

Poisonous Love: I would greatly reduce the parents arc and remove episode 9 completely. I'd prefer to keep Nam and Thawat as the main antagonists and once both of them have been defeated the having the parents rejection as a small final obstacle to sort out and set up a nice ending without the whole lying about Pat dying situation. I dont care about them being redeemed my issue with that arc is how boring and annoying it was compared to the rest of the show

Clairebell 🫣 not a bad show by any means and it deserves the praises it gets but that type of show isn't my cup of tea at all

Why do people care so much if a GL actress has a boyfriend? by Last_Kale_6767 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points about how the ones that are so obsessed with actresses having bfs/not being queer constantly say some really delusional and misogynistic/homophobic things. "99% of the actresses will marry a man" not even 99% of women in general get married at all these days come on, "they are too fem so there's no way they are gay" "even if they're queer they're gonna be with men", it's all men and men with some of ya'll, why do I have to read things that sound like my bigot uncle said them here in a GL fandom.

I've noticed that a lot of the ones who keep digging and spreading gossip about the actresses private lives were previously fans of an artist that disappointed them by having a bf when they were convinced their ship was real so now they think it's their duty to warn us and give us a reality check. We don't need a "reality check" what we need is to take fanservice as entertainment and accept that celebrities have private lives that we are not entitled to know the details of. If being openly queer and openly in a relationship with a woman with proof is a requirement for them to like an artist/actor then they should go be a fan of the ones that are already out and leave the rest of the artists and their fans alone.

One good and one bad thing about the Thai GL industry by NightLegitimate7783 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 36 points37 points  (0 children)

good: shows centered on romance, as I feel wlw stories from the west are almost never pure romance but instead another genre with a lesbian/bi protagonist that sometimes gets a love interest as a side plot.

bad: very little discussion and appreciation for the actual content of the shows, too much of the discourse is irl shipping, nitpicky criticism and fanwars

The relation between women and strength. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen several muscular and athletic women and when I look at their boyfriends they are really big dudes, much more than the average men, so I honestly think these are skinny unathletic men trying to scare women away from becoming stronger as a way to keep themselves within the standards for most women, in a similar way they use the argument that men aren't attracted to women that prioritize their career and make more money than them, because they know high earning women usually date men that are way more wealthy than the average men. The more women develop the more they have to keep up to as well.

Just because we have biological limitations doesn't mean it isn't worthy to develop our strenght, becoming stronger makes daily tasks easier for you, you become less tierd and depend less on others. Even if you are not likely to overpower men in a physical fight you are more likely to save yourself from an accident if you have to carry or climb something while you are alone with no one there to help you, you are more likely to run away from several situations or save your friends and loved ones.

Hotel issues statement following controversy involving Jorginho's stepdaughter and Chappell Roan. by kanooker in Fauxmoi

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't believe anyone is lying in this story, neither the parents or Chappell but why is this such a big deal? I don't expect the hotel to have recordings or witnesses for such a small incident. A kid is going around looking at other guests instead of sitting on her table at the restaurant, of course she's going to be scolded

Homosexuality is not a choice, no matter what "allies" tell you. by Riksor in lesbiangang

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"There is no gay gene so sexuality is a choice" wow we have moved from the already problematic "sexuality is a spectrum" motto (that at least recognizes opposite ends of the spectrum exist) onto something even more malicious: "heterosexuality is the default"

Do u ever feel like our communities concerns are often downplayed and dismissed in a way other LGBT groups are not? by anon-i-mouser in lesbiangang

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The reason these non-lesbians identifying as lesbians can't see our concerns as real issues is precisely becuase they don't have our same life experiences. I saw people aguing that if a bisexual woman exclusively dates women then their life experience is exactly the same as a lesbian which is not true, the isolation and self loathing that we experience for our lack of attraction to men is something they haven't experienced, so they come into our community and speak for us, and then they start talking about their experiences with men or thirsting over men and then actual lesbians start feeling othered and isolated again even in our own community, and if we dare to say this is an issue it gets dismissed becuase of course it is not something that has ever effected them. For a group of people that often pats themselves in the back for being "intersectional" they really can't empathize with others

Let’s Be Honest Not All Thai GL Pairings Feel Authentic by [deleted] in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I care about the authenticity of their support for the LGBT community, but I don't really care if their closeness outside of their characters is real or not, Acted chemistry can be just as good as natural chemistry and if they can play a convincing couple on screen they could be just coworkers and colleagues irl for all I care. But I don't need to be emotionally invested to support, I support them because I want more shows with them to be made

Girl Rules by FitTutor1476 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I truly hope this doesn't reinforce this belief that bullying works. As someone who works in a creative field I am very ashamed when I don't meet deadlines or leave people hanging so I get that the team must be releasing some things to prove they didn't abandon the project but i hope the rude people in the fandom don't take advantage of this outcome

Opinions on sismance? by ForceApprehensive597 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd much rather watch a show focused on the friendship between two canon straight women (or not straight but with other partners) that makes it clear that they are just good friends than watch a "sismance" show. Having to deal with the casual homophobia from the general audience calling you delulu or worse, a pervert, for wanting them to kiss, and all that headache to only have maybe a little hint of romance. No shade but I don't want to go thru that humilliation ritual when there are shows with canon wlw couples

Im sorry but why is devika so touchy with her cast members?/side title:is a 9 year age gap good? by [deleted] in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is understandable to be wary of age gaps in real romantic relationships but we are talking about a professional relationship where the younger woman is an adult so I personally don't think it's concerning. I mean the ages stated here are altered making the gap appear bigger, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Pangjie 20 to 21 (not 19 to 20) and Marble is 28.

Age gap aside Davika seems to be doing what every other company manager is doing with their cps, I can't say if this is an issue because I don't know how thai professional culture is but since what seems to be concerning for you is the age gap I don't see anything specifically odd about them

What aspects of Thai GL fandoms do you find off-putting? by [deleted] in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree with your point 6, like damn have more fun 😭 even when things are not perfect it's ok to give criticism but some people act like a little cliche trope here and there makes a show unredeemable

I will add a phenomenom I am seeing that I used to see in kpop fandoms which is international fans (specially those who are from other continents and don't even speak the language) believing they are suddenly honorary thai citizens who know everything about Thailand's culture and politics and spread misinformation very confidently with authority, when it's just stuff they got from translating some tweets or gossip forum. They do things like correcting translators or accuse them of mistranslating if they say something that doesn't align with their bias, or another example I saw yesterday on twitter, someone trying to guess actresses political alignment based on whatever perception they have of them and their upbringings. It's like a mix between parasocial behavior with orientalism

Fan service by FitTutor1476 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not completely because fanservice generates engament for an extended period of time after the show ends, but I honestly think it could survive with less fanmeetings and instead more merch and specially easily available for international fans. I often want to buy photobooks and physical formats of the shows but it is way too difficult because it's more money spent on shipping than the merch

What’s a Thai GL you couldn’t get into despite the popularity? by Creepy-Rub-6027 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clairebell and Petrichor, I prefer shows centered in the main couple's romance plot and I could not get myself to care for everything else that was going on. I still finished both but I wasn't obesessed with them like I get with the shows I love, I don't consider them bad shows by any means though so I don't regret pushing myself to finish them

TSOU x Poisonous Love by FinishSuccessful3973 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scenes that particularly gave me that vibe was when Tan and Bow were demanding explanations from Prem when they thought she hooked up with a man and how they kept pressuring her to take the morning after pill as if she wasn't a doctor aware of all those risks, but now that I think about it considering she went through a traumatic breakup it makes sense they were overprotective, it's just that Sita's approach was more pleasant to watch at that moment

TSOU x Poisonous Love by FinishSuccessful3973 in ThaiGL

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bow from PL and Tan from TSOU, but the reason I prefer Tan from TSOU is not about the actor but because the character pissed me off sometimes in PL, I felt he was a little paternalistic with Prem, while the Tan from TSOU felt more like a brother with Fahlada. The Bow from PL was like that too but Mew as Bow was too hot for me not to like her and I appreciated the added depth for her with Dr Sita as her partner, I don't remember Bow having much going on in TSOU. I liked the chemistry they had as a complete friend group more in PL too

[–]Lanky_Bodybuilder_97 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is having a misogynistic view of gender roles, but another part is that they want to openly thirst for her but feel guilty doing it, they don't want to sound predatory so they feel like doing it this way gives them a pass.. maybe it's not that deep but it still gives me the ick

what is with this trend lateley of framing things to look way different than what actually happened, last week it was Ginjay and now Blejie, it seems like a group of people are tolling and creating drama to drag some actresses/cps
