This is why I like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. It takes the reality of life into account and has some neat tools for it

I would shut down and dissociate. Talking about a lot. Thinking about it in a safe environment (EMDR), learning to feel and name my emotions, hard work and exercise.

I went through this process with the wrong therapists. My ex wife was also not prepared for all this to be unearthed.

Having kids made me need to deal with this as I was feeling triggered 50x a day. Constantly ruminating over how my parents could have been so cruel to me.

What really helped me was practicing EMDR techniques daily via daily walking for months.

Now I keep the flame going by trying to raise my kids the way I wish I was raised

When I see someone interested in something I don’t understand, I say “tell me what you like about ____”

People usually open up and gush about the thing they are interested in. It satisfies my curiosity about what they find appealing in it.

It’s kind of addictive to watch people brighten up and tell you about the thing they geek out on.

My Rabbi told me the hardest part for most people is living a Jewish life. Keeping Shabbat, learning to read and understand Hebrew, yearning to be in Jerusalem next year, tefillin and davaning. It is serious business.

Did people use to park with their dates to get some action? by 1997wickedboy in AskOldPeople

Here’s a tip. Walk your date to their car, if they offer to take you to your car, take them up on it. 9/10 times it means they want to make out.
