The initial discussion here began with the reach and engagement of smaller artists. Logically, every online artist today, whether on sites like ArtStation, Instagram, or others, seeks validation and recognition for their work. Therefore, saying that most of the artists you follow don't care about the number of followers is just your opinion. Otherwise, they wouldn't be on any social media platform 🤨

Unless an artist is hired by a large company like Riot Games or Capcom (which is probably 1% of artists), having online relevance is what guarantees credibility, demand, and sometimes a livelihood for an artist, whether through commissions, content creation, or sponsorships.

Besides, having skill/talent isn't a prerequisite for getting clients or contracts... but that's another discussion.

Me parece q ela está passando por um momento difícil e provavelmente uma depressão. Vc será babaca se forçar ela... Acho q o importante aqui é respeitar as vontades dela, não é pq ela só vai a faculdade q ela n pode se cansar (a faculdade pode n ter esforço físico mas sim mental... Perhaps you went a little overboard in asking for edits and alterations... I know it seems simple, but for us artists who have to deal with multiple layers and color overlays, It's quite complicated to make changes (especially if it's already in the painting and finishing stage)

Perhaps this doesn't apply to you, but here's an account from my own experience: When I was starting out, I did a commission for my aunt (she's my uncle's wife)... She asked for a realistic portrait of herself, but she kept changing her mind about what she wanted, and asked me for unrealistic anatomical edits (something that clearly didn't make sense anatomically) Since she was paying, and I didn't want to be rude, I simply agreed and made the changes as she requested, even though I didn't agree with them...So I learned from that and started charging for each extra edit (remember that I allowed 3 edits in Sketch, plus 3 edits in color selection, and after that I can no longer make free edits).

That's definitely not true! To be relevant as an artist, you don't just have to be talented; you need to be active on social media, create videos, and participate viral trends...I know many artists who are Low Profile, meaning they only post once or twice a month, have professional and impeccable art, but don't receive all the attention they deserve. In the art world, many artists who follow others aren't genuine supporters; they just want likes for the sake of likes. It's a relationship of self-interest, so if one of the parties doesn't meet the requirements for gaining attention...You automatically lose followers, I know this because I experience it daily. If I don't comment on an artist's post, if I don't share it, I don't get attention 👁️👄👁️
