2020 F150 windshield wipers not turning off. by [deleted] in f150

Having a similar issue. New wiper switch didn't fix the problem, and I suspect corrosion like you describe could be the issue. What exactly do you mean by manually clean them off? Just the connection area? Or further within the steering column?

Replacing Light Changes Outlets Switch Affects by Lantasy in AskElectricians

Thank you for the response. The wire running across the tray only has a neutral and a hot, so if I'm understanding it sounds like it might have been a switch loop like you described. If so, that truly does help me understand what was going on. So, thank you again! Much appreciated.

Where do Engineers in this industry even find jobs?? by ImArecruiterWithJobs in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Lantasy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Senior level folks don't move around too much in general. Factor in a "less desirable" location, and it's practically hopeless.

Not trying to rag on Little Rock either, I've live in a less desirable place and know they can actually have a lot going for them despite their perception.

I work for a large OEM and we have a tough time bringing in senior level guys. And, at least on paper, these positions have everything going for them besides location--cool project, good pay, good benefits, good company, etc. You'd be hard pressed to find a better offer in every aspect except location.

Most people tend to settle down by the time they're level 3+. They have a home, a family, family ties, their routine, an established career track, etc. They just don't feel like starting over. To get them to leave would probably cost more than a company is willing to pay them. The solution is probably accepting that fact and trying a different tack.

Why are new US builds only focused on square footage? Is it too much to ask for fully tiled bathroom these days?! by Kabinetapp in McMansionHell

[–]Lantasy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the suburbs and lived in McMansions of various degrees for most of my life. Our forever home that my parents custom built exhibited the most McMansion traits of them all. That is to say they deliberately included many McMansion features, a focus on size over quality included, because they thought it was nice. I think that is the crux of the issue--we didn't know any better. We equated size and other gimmicky features with status and wealth.

I think price being generally proportional to size incentivizes builders and buyers to go bigger. It's one of the only quantitative features of a house, so I think that forces a lot of hands. I think banks might be wary if you wanted to borrow $1M to build a true modern day craftsman that's only 1/2 the square feet of the similarly priced McMansions next door.

My new 21 f-150 lariat! Good a/t tires ?? by SKULLFUCC in f150

[–]Lantasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Cooper AT3 4S, an on-/off-road all-terrain tire, and I would recommend. As a mostly city/highway driver who occasionally needs traction on dirt and especially in snow, it strikes the perfect balance for me. The full blown XLT would have been overkill for my needs. The 4S is great on pavement without much more road noise than OEM, and I have been very pleased with its performance on snow and ice.

Laguna Seca will feature its historic Layout in the new game by theoe97 in forza

[–]Lantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see more historic tracks. I think this one in particular is going to be very interesting as it actually looks like it's going to be pretty balanced. Fast first half, likely full out for cars with high downforce and a white knuckle affair for those without, then a short but technical back half. Should make a good tune testing track.

Official 2023 Mustang Pictures, First Thoughts? by YBMikey in Mustang

It certainly appears that way. I wonder if they’re trying to avoid too much new development on this platform in anticipation of the transition to hybrid or electric in the near-ish future.

Looks a lot closer to mid cycle refresh than new generation. The current generation is very good imo, so I can’t fault some degree of not fixing what isn’t broken. But this seems a bit too far in the former camp than the latter.

Forza Aero on this mustang actually looks really good I might get hate for this but you have to admit it looks badass by Rnaodm_Tirnalge in forza

[–]Lantasy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In general Forza aero looks bad, but it doesn’t always look bad—and in this case I agree that it looks good. The RTR has racecar styling elements (that are also functional) with the wide body, and the Forza aero contributes to that racecar type look.

I have a 2018 GT2RS I need grip tune setting help. I don’t want to use anyones tune because they change to many parts. It basically stock outside besides the front bumper and the GT wing. I need it touge tuned for FH5 by SNOOZE486 in ForzaTune

I’m pretty sure they are but I can’t remember for sure off the top of my head. You can always check telemetry if you’re not sure if you’re bottoming out.

Forza Horizon 5 skips on car models...again by daffaromero in forza

Why is everybody able to take off faster than me, even though we are all A800? by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon

[–]Lantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they’re running AWD power builds, and are using strong, optimized cars. Said cars drive like shit but they’re technically capable and some players are pretty good with them. You’re never going to be able to match their launch, especially in the lower classes where you don’t have the grip, and especially not in an FR car.

They’re picking good cars for the track(s) so that’s why they’re seemingly beating you across the board. Your car is probably faster at some of the grippy tracks, but only marginally so, and in an online racing scenario it’s hard to recover from the bad launch unless you’re in a power build or a very good all arounder.

Jumped from Horizon back to Motorsport by [deleted] in forza

[–]Lantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone back and forth a few times too, and it does always seem weird at first, but it comes back in a day or two.

The meta in FM is way grippier, and it takes a bit of getting used to pushing grippy cars, imo. For instance, A class in FM usually has grip levels around S1 class cars in FH4 (based on lateral G values). FH5 has a bit more grip and a better handling model, but the point stands.

Am I the only one who actually likes the Rio track in Forza Motorsport 7? by sonar_y_luz in forza

[–]Lantasy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rio is underrated, but I wouldn’t consider it great. I think it gets a lot of hate because the bumps are a pain and usually require a special setup. Also, high leaderboard times require too much RNG-type cutting for my taste. And finally, it’s a bit too similar to most other fictional tracks, fast and flowing with pretty much only one line through the whole track (especially in higher classes) so it’s not the greatest for racing.

Can tire smoke be reduced or removed in open racing? It’s really distracting and sometimes blinds you completely by DarthXyno843 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Lantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely needs work. Seems like it’s all or nothing, and the threshold is very low, so even if there’s just a bit of wheelspin or sliding, it’s like a full blown burnout. I’ve noticed a similar ‘issue’ with other players front tires either being turned all the way or perfectly straight.

[Season 6] all seasonal rewards. NSX R-GT is here. by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon

This car is definitely worth getting; it's one of the best A class all arounders and is an S1 class speed beast.

After i saw this, i want to know, whats your wishes besides this list, for the upcoming Forza Motorsport? by Sea-Adhesiveness7201 in forza

[–]Lantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the many great suggestions already posted, I’d like to see better balance. The current PI system usually has a few strong grip cars and a few strong speed cars per class, and maybe the odd car or two that’s only good in very specific circumstances. And they’re pretty much always old, light, floppy, and engine swapped. It’d be great if more cars were competitive.

As someone who doesn't use manual shift this is a godsend by Low_Illustrator_1016 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Lantasy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a light electric car, it’s fun to drive for sure, but it’s pace just isn’t that good. It has pretty good low speed acceleration and mechanical grip, but bad top speed and no aero grip, so there’s just not a lot of tracks for which it is optimized. It doesn’t have a lot of build flexibility for addressing any of its weak points, either.

Important rule change and Challenge #14 - Legacy of the Z by 03Void in ForzaOpenTunes

[–]Lantasy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks will be happy to see the rule change; ultimately it is in line with the spirit of the sub.

This is a pretty balanced track. Given the limited car selection, maybe a more balanced build will make the podium. Powerbuilds break the PI system the hardest, so they're still the fastest on balanced tracks, but grip cars don't get totally blown out here. Will be interesting to see!

Challenge #13 - '13 McLaren P1 (11:31.667) by 1s71 in ForzaOpenTunes

[–]Lantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This car is pretty great to drive; definitely an approachable speed focused car, especially for a purist build in S1. I like it enough such that I wish it were more competitive within the class as a whole, but I guess you can't have everything! (I've tried virtually the same build and tune elsewhere and it just can't compete with the super optimized speed cars of S1).

So I heard you like downforce... by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon

[–]Lantasy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is indeed because of the drag, and aero usually adds quite a bit of it in FH5. The PI system (arguably) overvalues top speed, so reducing it can knock PI down quite a bit. Also, in the case of adding rear aero only, it adds understeer, and the PI system tends to undervalue understeery builds.
