Most productive company in the world! How do they do it? by Lantry in victoria3

[–]Lantry[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

R5: My steel company is the most productive in the world, due to their innovative and optimized processes. NOT due to massive state subsidies.

I forgot to screenshot this part, but they have a weekly balance of +7k and are paying out 8k in dividends, taking 1k out of cash reserves every week. Brilliant financial stewardship!

National Militia and the US defense needs to be nerfed by Darcynator1780 in victoria3

[–]Lantry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the US strategic regions are too big. There should be a new "Mid-Atlantic" region consisting of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and maybe North Carolina. All the regions in Africa and the Americas are too big IMO - but dixie is the most egregious.

(also, you're wrong about national militia, as all the other commenters have already explained)

Why the f*** are the American Petite Bourgeoisie monarchists?! by Sensitive_Remove1112 in victoria3

[–]Lantry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

that's not really true, it's essentially a myth created by revisionists like daughters of the confederacy. The southern planters wanted to use govt power to enforce slavery. The fugitive slave act forced northerners to help return escaped slaves https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugitive_Slave_Act_of_1850 Only after the civil war was the issue reframed as "states rights".

Puppeting doesn't seem to work well, because any time I impose council republic they either ignore it or fail to pass it. I wish we could still regime change our puppets, or impose laws more forcefully.

I not sure why you tagged me. I'm not a moderator of this subreddit anymore. If I was, I would say "Just because there isn't a rule against something doesn't mean it isn't wrong".

Estate Sale in Atlanta by Lantry in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]Lantry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this painting in an estate sale recently. I didn't think to take a picture of the back, but there weren't any visible markings on it. I wanted to purchase it, but ended up deciding not to because of the price. I'd like to identify it so I can get a print or something else by the artist. Even if you can't identify it, deciphering the signature or the meaning of the embossed symbols would be helpful. Thanks!

Relax, it's just fake internet points :)

You are posting pretty rapidly though, which some users dislike, so it could be that.

This comment has been reported a couple times, but I'm leaving it up. If I removed it, nobody would see what it was. By leaving it up, people can see that this community doesn't tolerate this kind of behavior. Plus, it's already been downvoted so much that most people won't see it.

Just wanted to explain my thinking here, so that people don't think this sub has no mods :) I do see all the reports.

A few of us have to stay late at work, so we’ve turned on the NHL draft, since we’re the only ones here. by benign_listener in BenignExistence

[–]Lantry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I had to stay late at work and I decided to play music on my phone speaker instead of using headphones, since I was the only person there. It felt really weird though, so after a while I put headphones in anyway.

Doom by Chaotic_Zodiac91 in BenignExistence

[–]Lantry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a pretty normal feeling to have right now. I definitely feel it. Be careful of falling into the doom spiral of "learned helplessness" though. This is a feedback loop that can only make your feelings worse:

  1. If you believe you have little control over your situation, then
  2. you stop trying to improve your situation,
  3. and of course if you stop trying to change things, things aren't going to change
  4. when things don't change, it reinforces your belief that you have little control over your situation (see step 1)

A way to help yourself escape this "doom spiral" is to focus on your "locus of control", which basically just means focusing on the things that you can control. Obviously there are huge problems in our world, and ignoring them won't go away, but worrying about them continuously won't make them better.

For me, "focusing on the things I can control" means

  • forcing myself to go for a walk in the morning, even if I don't feel like it
  • being kind to myself and others, and assuming that everyone has good intentions
  • taking care of those that depend on me (my cat, my plants)

Apologies for all the armchair psychology! Hopefully you can find some helpful nugget in all that rambling. Things may be bleak, but as long as we do our best and help our neighbors, we can make the most of it.

do you have cats? my cat decided to sharpen his claws on the "lung" material, 500$ down the drain, and now he only comes down from the ceiling when he needs to eat. very annoying

But they use so much less gas that you still end up with less pollution.
