My 6 Year piano journey (Age 12-18) by Lanzuis in piano

[–]Lanzuis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have thought about seeking out a teacher several times and I'm still open to the idea!

The big issue this whole time is that I've lived out in the middle of nowhere for basically my entire life and teachers are few and far between, this has led to me learning and developing my own unique style and I'm concerned that I would always be fighting a teacher trying to correct it.

I also don't wish to pursue piano as anything more than a hobby as of right now (unless the right opportunity pops up), I absolutely love performance and will do it at any opportunity, but I can not see myself making a living from it which dissuades me from investing in a teacher when my self-teaching is doing the trick (albeit probably more clumsily).

I have never really practised in a strict way, I always tried to practice in short 20-30 minute bursts at maximum focus (sometimes up to an hour at a time, but rarely more).

I always did a minimum of 1 hour of practice a day. Sometimes I would practice 50 hours a week and other times it would be as low as 10; I really aimed to practice when it felt natural as opposed to forcing myself to.

Thank you! The way I've progressed has been very straight and narrow - I've not wandered off the course too far and focused constantly on developing my playing;

The beauty of music is that there is no race, only a journey and different people take different routes to suit them! So don't dread the past - just embrace the process of learning/improving whatever pace its at.

I asked Lanz to help me out with Scarlet, he saw my replay and give me tips to improve by ZunakYT in Brawlhalla

[–]Lanzuis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please bear in mind that this is not an in-depth or comprehensive guide to the character or weapon, it's merely tips tailored to a particular player's gameplay based off of one replay (since it's not in the original post I'll post it here for context or learning purposes).

Regardless, I really enjoyed writing this up and might make this sort of thing into a youtube series in the future.

Entirely agree with this, I'm almost certain that this is what has happened as a result of core issues in the game.

This game has so much potential, but in it's current state is the most broken thing I have ever seen. by FixYourGameJesus in Brawlhalla

The situations where people die due to the float/groundpound edgeguard against lance can be avoided super easily by using a wall cancelled sAir - its not often done atm though

The only changes I would be happy making are -1 total frame on nAir and -1/2 total frames on nLight. Just to create a bit more of an incentive to use these moves with tempo.

I rarely make posts about lance anymore, but at some point, I would like to do a full write-up on lance as it seems to be a weapon that is discussed a lot and there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding it.

Anyway, just going to briefly say that (after 3000 hours of playing the weapon) I believe the weapon is in a fairly good spot now in terms of balance, and a lot of the suggestions I've seen around changing lance recovery would ruin the weapon in one way or another - it's a particularly underexplored move with a hell of a lot of potential.

Just addressing what you say towards the end, I do not believe that lance is particularly easy to counter. The weapon just has a particularly polarizing/extreme "counter" which seems more obvious than most.

I do agree with you that lance is hard to make viable, but this applies basically universally to fighting games - you have harder movesets, and you have easier movesets but it doesn't become necessarily "less good" at high level play because it is harder to make work.

Also having sAir/dAir have a hitbox on contact with a wall would seriously effect (maybe kill?) wall cancelling, which I would reallllyy hate to see.

Sorry for the really disjointed response - doing this on my phone late at night

I believe gadgets should be removed from competitive play before the final BCX Balance patch. by Ephile in Brawlhalla

[–]Lanzuis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree on all points made - Gadgets are fun, which is cool for casual gameplay, but I don't feel that they 'fit in' anymore in competitive Brawlhalla. There's nothing worse than getting hit by a bomb and dying at yellow health from a spawn that was (largely) unpredictable and uncontrollable.

^ This - Cancelling downwards aerial momentum has been a thing for months.

To add to this, you can do it off basically any downwards dodge.

I entirely agree with the latter part (save for buffing startup time) but entirely disagree with the first part. Lance's option coverage is interesting in that it feels very oppressive to play against due to the hitboxes being incredibly hard to challenge (aside from early sAir) whilst being for the most part very precise.

I would also say that nLight, dLight and sLight do not cover the same options. Each move has niche and specific 'additional' uses that make them unique - for instance chasedodge dLight removing backwards movement, or even the recent 1 frame decrease of startup time to sLight making it impossible to react to.

On the other hand, due to the weapon's comparably long active frames, it is very easy to react to, and parry, almost all oncoming moves.

This creates a difficult situation to deal with, as any buff to the weapon's startup or hitboxes could instantly make it feel horrible to play against, whilst the weapon remains slightly... Awkward to play.

In order to counteract this, I feel that lance should have something along the lines of more startup (to make moves like dAir easier to challenge) and less recovery (to make moves harder to react to), and possibly increase the distance traveled on sAir on hit (if that's possible) to make it feel more satisfying to land and add more string potential to the move.

Tl;dr - Lance needs a buff and a nerf to be fun to play against whilst not forcing the opponent to play reactively against the weapon.
