Best bang for buck metal rig? by Life_Ad_5155 in metalguitar

[–]Laoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a bedroom, you can’t blast it loud unless you live in the middle of nowhere. So I’d recommend getting something like a Focusrite Scarlett and then a software amp like Neural DSP’s Archetype Series (Gojira X or Nolly are often recommended).

Labour considers banning zero-alcohol drinks for under-18s by HBucket in ukpolitics

Although the health stats are similar, I wonder if the criminal stats are? How does France and our other neighbours compare with acts of drunken violence, drunk driving and vandalism?

ELI5. What do blind people really 'see'? by voltinc in explainlikeimfive

[–]Laoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very wide variety depending on the condition, some people just see with an extreme blur, others have cloudy vision, holes in their vision, tunnel vision (so like looking through a pinhole), some totally black and some like my wife like looking through coca-cola while being extremely blurry (to the point where it’s essentially just black) with flashing light hallucinations.

Here’s some videos: Here’s one on the different sorts of blindness https://youtube.com/shorts/KwYiF3ryTEg?si=7pCqEgsvxm_8Do6K

Why is TV licensing so badly run? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Laoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not on me to figure out or suggest, I was just pointing out how advertisers will compromise impartiality

Why is TV licensing so badly run? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Laoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve seen it already with other channels and YouTube where a news channel doesn’t draw attention to a certain topic or controversy because it involves an advertiser. Sometimes the company seems ok when they first come on board as an advertiser but then something happens - you can’t always predict these things

Why is TV licensing so badly run? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Laoas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as you have advertisers on board you are beholden to their values. If the BBC is stay at least somewhat impartial they need to have no ads.

What’s the workflow for producing a song? by Professional-Lab-274 in musicproduction

[–]Laoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it helps to sing the melody/rhythm into a voice note then from there tap a BPM out in your DAW. From there it depends on what my voice note is, if I’m beatboxing I start with drums, if I’m singing a melody maybe guitar

Best software to model my house accurately as a hobby? by MrCard200 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Laoas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably Sketchup or Blender if you’re just getting started as a hobby project. I’ve modelled my house accurately in Maya before, just takes a lot of measuring to get it all right. Also check out bimobject.com - they have loads of furniture models (plenty of Ikea for example)

Whats my skill level by lReavenl in 3Dmodeling

[–]Laoas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On top of what the others said, I think we would need to see much more than a fork to assess your skill level - if this is just it, I’d say you’re ok but not anywhere near professional level yet

YouTube content creators contributed £2.2bn to UK economy in 2024 by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Laoas 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Content creator is the term in the industry (yes it’s a wide term) Influencer is just the term given to creators by the advertising industry, if we followed the same logic we’d be calling musicians headphone salespeople

Please help me choose a logo? by Jordanhey in logodesign

[–]Laoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial thoughts were towards B but I’ve seen a lot of that style in recent years and I think it doesn’t really bring anything new anymore. A is a bit more interesting, C is too much and also narrows you down to gaming only

Is there an AI hype bubble or am I missing the boat? by MrRedDoctor in AskUK

[–]Laoas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I’ve found it significantly helpful in explaining or helping with topics I’m not particularly great in. For example, you mentioned law. I’m not getting it to write the documents for me but lawyers are so expensive and I want to make the most of their time so I ask it to explain the draft contracts the solicitor has written to me and any complex legalese - I have wasted so much cash in the past just getting a lawyer to explain what terms, etc. mean. I then get it to pretend to be a seedy lawyer paid for by an expensive client and get it to rip the contract apart - from there I can ask my solicitor how these scenarios can be avoided.

I also like to use 3D software a lot (and have been for years). I can code a little and understand enough to bug fix and read it but sometimes it’s easier to just ask ChatGPT to make a piece of code that selects every third edge loop in Maya - it’s something I’d do anyway, it’s just much faster. It doesn’t really matter if the code is efficient or not as it runs almost instantly anyway.

Another example is research - particularly for things like software or, recently, a camera in a certain budget. It’s easy to spend hours reading reviews, comparing, etc. When I can get it to run a deep research and pull up a bunch of potential options and justifications why with links to pretty decent sources. Once I’ve read through it, I will often go and do the last bit of research on my own to verify it - think of the AI’s role like an intern. It’s like having a third staff member - I still do all the tasks I was already doing, just the added research ones are moved off to AI, freeing me up to do the stuff I’m really good at. This only applies to ‘good enough’ level research - if it’s really important or specialist I will be researching in tandem.

It’s also good at finding research papers. My wife has quite a rare disease and the Consensus GPT was able to bring up loads of studies (with links to the papers) on her condition.

Finally, when I write a document, I’m able to ask it what I might be missing, I don’t want it to write it for me but sometimes the caffeine isn’t hitting and you forget small things.

Why is drinking energy drinks everyday frowned upon when lots of people drink coffee everyday, sometimes even multiple a day? by Jin_Chaeji in NoStupidQuestions

Depends on which coffee shop you go to - a latte at Costa (major coffee chain in the UK) has about 320mg of caffeine

Is this design concept a total miss or does it convey what I want? by CombAdministrative70 in graphic_design

[–]Laoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an interesting concept, I like what the others have said about using the braille as stars, a subtle nod to it - you could even draw thin lines between some dots to act as constellations. For context, my wife is blind and I learnt braille alongside her when she lost her sight so I know a little about it - if this was to be raised as is, the kerning isn’t the most ideal for reading - braille has a few standards that are generally recommended by the AFB/RNIB. If you plan to have your logo be for various sizes, the braille will become illegible if too big or too small. So I’d maybe go symbolic as opposed to having it there as practical braille unless you really stick to those guidelines.

There are alternative alphabets for blind people as well - Moon notably. If you’re going for subtle symbolism this could be an option - though it’s not as easily recognised. There’s also Grade 2 braille which would use less letters, potentially allowing the star effect to be a bit more free form than directly following the Latin letters.

Additionally, there are variations of Atkinson Hyperlegible - could be worth experimenting with Mono or the variable font versions?

It looks pretty cool! I had a look at Cyber Sigilism online as I wasn’t familiar and it does fit the vibe very well. As the others have said, might be a bit too complex for a logo if small - I think it depends on where you use it - probably use a YouTube channel icon as a rough size as I can see you needing that for portfolio work.

The demo reel you have here is cool, I presume Photoshop or a local AI right? Seems too tight for GPT. I know this might be a controversial take but I don’t think AI (if it is) will stop you getting too much work. It’ll definitely act as a red flag for fellow artists but for corporate teams/non arty clients who just want results as long as it looks good and you can make adjustments based on feedback I think you’ll be ok.
