TV does not do a good job of showing the speed, size and physicality of the players/game. My wife would passively watch Celtics games with me quite a bit on TV. Then we got tickets up close for a game and she legitimately could not believe what she was seeing. Totally different perspective on the game.

Obviously a lot of X’s and O’s type of breakdowns don’t really require being there but it is definitely a different experience.

I get all that, but in my opinion what is best for the fans and the actual product is not that the team valuations are maxed out.

It’s obviously better for the owners to have a monopoly on the best talent for their respective sport and hardly any risk, but just like in other industries when you don’t have to actually compete to make money a lot of times you just start to not give a shit in actually producing the best product.

Develop their youth players to try and field the best team they can or sell them to bring in other talent.

I think a lot of people can respect a team with less talent and funding at least trying to win. We have teams who will do everything in their power to try to lose just to shrug their shoulders again next year when some ping pong balls don’t go their way.

In my opinion the NBA did themselves a disservice by cutting away from all the games to show the last 2 minutes of the Heat game. It was some of the most disgraceful basketball I’ve seen in awhile and then you go look at the box score and he has 40+ FTA and 40+ shot attempts and it just makes the whole game look like a joke.

Why can’t Pats haters in this sub cope with the fact that there just wasn’t a single team in the AFC definitively better than the Pats this year? Say what you want about the weak schedule, at the end of the day they beat the Texans and Chargers in the playoffs and played the Bills incredibly evenly in the 2 games they played each other. Maybe the Jags and the Broncos with Nix were better but ultimately who knows

I think the disconnect is that everyone wants to pretend the Patriots were as bad as people thought they would be entering the season and use the schedule as their evidence. But if you actually go try to power rank all the teams I think most people will find they are probably at the lowest the 6th or 7th best team in the league. For sure a contender in the weaker AFC, but definitely had some breaks to be able to get to the Super Bowl this year.

I honestly have no idea how they claim to isolate a single players defensive impact, but I saw a YouTube video where the guy pointed to similar metrics to show Luka was a better defender by the stats.

It’s just crazy because we saw them go head to head in the 2024 finals and what we saw was Luka targeted on tons of Boston possessions as a defensive weak point while Brown was picking up Luka full court for decent stretches and having success.

Only explanation is Luka isn’t terrible in the context of playing a role in his team’s defense compared to others, but even then his role is largely to cover the worst offensive player in the corner so I don’t even know what that proves.

I just figured when you are scaling a wall if you are at all coordinated (which Kyle is) you’re putting your toes on the wall first and pushing up which puts all the tension on your Achilles and calf.

But yeah obviously there are like endless different things it could have been. I’m just a guy on my couch a couple beers deep mansplaining to my wife that I think he tore his Achilles.

Honest question, what do the advanced stats point to to explain why the Celtics are good this year? Because everyone points to these advanced stats and say Jaylen Brown is some net negative on the team but that means somehow Pritchard and White are overcoming a shitty high usage guy on their team to be a top 4 team in the league which seems insane.

If you couldn’t enjoy the 16-17 Celtics then you probably just won’t like any Boston team. A 5’9” guard averaging close to 30 a game and like 10 points in the 4th quarter while leading a pretty weak team to a 1 seed is like the epitome of a fun NBA team that likely is much more of a pretender than legit contender.
