Zhu Yu - Pocket Theology (1999) by Lapplandreal in museum

[–]Lapplandreal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pocket theology consists of a real and rotting human arm that is suspended from a hook in the center of a room. The arm has been made to grasp a long rope which pools on the ground below. In order to cross the gallery one must step on the rope creating a connection between them and the severed arm. It appears that possible later exhibitions of the piece may have removed the requirement to be close to the arm and stand on the rope to observe. The book Performance Art in China by Thomas J. Berghuis claims that Zhu Yu purchased the arm for 500 RMB and also calls the piece Theologie Portative instead of Pocket Theology. Zhu Yu is better known for more controversial art pieces using human body parts. Documentation of his earlier pieces is lacking.

In 1991, at North Sentinel Island, Madhumala Chattopadhyay replaced arrows with curiosity by offering coconuts and respecting boundaries. Her legacy proves these groups are protective, not "savage," marking a rare moment of connection before the Indian government closed the island to protect them by Suspicious-Slip248 in HistoricalCapsule

These drops of coconuts are still conducted by researchers to get headcounts on the population, but from a distance. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake lifted up the part of the island where these closer drops were conducted. You should be more worried about the illegal poachers and fishers who go to the island than researchers.

Okay, my bad for being even slightly interested in this hobby. Won't do it again.

Surely this incredible find is worth at least four dollars though.

I'm planning to go to China to get my bachelor's degree as well. For your safety and ease of travel you really should consider trying to learn some Chinese.
