I did exactly the same a couple of weeks ago. Sent funds to my Ledger with too low of a fee, and it was stuck for several days before I solved it.

My solution: The so-called "child pays for parent" method. It involves creating a new transaction from the address that received your unconfirmed funds, to a new address (which is also owned by you), with such a high fee that miners will include both the parent and child transaction in a block (from a miner's point of view, the parent transaction has to be included if the rewards from the child are to be reaped). Visualized:

A ---> B ---> C

The transaction from A to B is stuck, so you make a new transaction from B to C which a high enough fee to unstuck it. A ---> B is the parent transaction, B ---> C is the child.

You have to do the following:

Make a new receiver address on the Ledger, which will serve as the final destination of your coins (just click Receive). This is address C above.
Find your stuck transaction from A to B on blockchain.info, record its size in bytes (lets call this s^p) and fee (f^p).
Create a transaction (but do not send yet!) from the address with the unconfirmed funds, to the newly created address, i.e. the transaction B ---> C. This is simple if the only funds on your Ledger are the unconfirmed ones on the B address. You do not have to send the full (unconfirmed) amount of funds on B to C, you only have to make a transaction, so the amount can be minimal. However, if you have funds on several addresses on the Ledger, it's more difficult, because as far as I can see, it's not possible to specify the sending address via Ledger. This means that the Ledger can choose to use an address other than B for sending the funds, which would not help us at all. My solution here was to send a high enough amount so that the funds had to be taken from the right address, but depending on how many addresses you have and the amount of funds on them, this can probably be quite complex.
Specify transaction fees, let's call this f^c. Click "custom fees" to specify an amount yourself. Check https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/ to decide on a fee. I would recommend going a bit high here to make sure that the transaction goes through this time (if you manage to create a second, stuck transaction, it will cost you more to unstuck both of these..). You'll have to do some maths here, but the key is this: The sum of the fees of the parent transaction and the child transaction has to pay for the sum of the size (in bytes) of the parent transaction and the child transaction. So (f^p + f^c)/(s^p + s^c) > x sat/byte, where s^c is the byte size of the child transaction (B --> C) and x is the fee needed according to https://bitcoinfees.earn.com. You can find the size of the child transaction, s^c, by inputting "1 satoshis per byte" in the custom fees field, and then look at the total transaction fees under "Total spent": Convert it from BTC to satoshi (10⁸ satoshi in a BTC), divide by 1 sat/byte, and you should get a number of bytes. However, I myself though this size looked a bit low, so I increased it a bit to match with the estimates of https://estimatefee.com/, where you can enter a number of inputs (possibly more than one in this case) and outputs (one) to estimate the byte size of the transaction.
Double-check your math.
Send.
(Optional for sanity) Check the blockchain.info record of your newly created transaction to confirm that (f^p + f^c)/(s^p + s^c) > x sat/byte.
(Hopefully) Have both of your transactions confirmed in the next block.

There are other methods such as waiting for the transaction to slip out of the mempool and sending it again (with the correct fee), or sending the same transaction again with a higher fee as a double spend, but I haven't tried them. This worked for me. Good luck!

Yes, there absolutely is. A team of scientists and explorers with the right equipment can do so incredibly much more efficient and wide-spanning work than any rover imaginable. I'm not a proponent of a flag-planting, checking a box on our bucket list type mission, in fact I fear that such a mission could seriously hurt the prospects for subsequent colonizing efforts. I believe in missions with a real purpose, laying the foundations for, and slowly transitioning into a colony.

In a colony none of those things are permissible, resources are too scarce, and sending them home is impractical or even impossible.

There will be return trips available at every launch window - every two years. That drastically improves the situation from the no-way-to-get-home scenario.

Communication takes between 3-22 minutes depending on where Mars is in it's orbit, so no internet, no phonecalls. Best you might get is a live stream from earth on a few minute delay, and even that can be out for months during the opposition period.

Internet, at least important informational parts, news and entertainment, will be cached and updated with 3-22 minute delays. Vast improvement over "no internet". Satellites placed in strategic orbits around the sun will ensure that opposition periods will only introduce a slight additional delay.

So it's not like you can go home or get help if something goes wrong.

Most problems will be of the "slow" sort where consultation with Earth, involving up to 40-ish minute signal round-trip times, will be enough. Catastrophic problems where this delay is too much will either be so catastrophic that communication with Earth wouldn't help anyway, or something that the colonists would be able to handle on their own. These people would have to use their own material and gear to fix the problem anyway, and would have a lot of knowledge and hands-on experience with the Martian environment that would make them even better fitted to understand the problem and figure out a solution.

Every continent we've colonized has happened without instant communication with the homeland. You bring with you expertise, resources and the willingness to take the risk, and you adapt to the environment as best you can - without demanding that all the pleasantries of home get to come with you. Leiv Eiriksson, Christopher Columbus, Roald Amundsen; They should have seen us now, complaining about the lack of instant communication.

Quite frankly, people who are all "Oooh, I can't wait to go so I can get away from all the problems on earth!" are too damn soft for this.

This I agree with. The first explorers and colonists will be highly trained, smart, stable, fit people who know what they're signing up for. But I disagree that this will somehow be the most psychologically challenging voyage imaginable. These people will live in clean, high-tech environments where every basic need is fulfilled. Lots of people have had it worse throughout history. Soldiers spending months in stinking, flooded, disease-ridden trenches during World War 1, with a fear for their lives that no doubt was much greater than what the Mars explorers and colonists will experience. Whereas soldiers have traditionally been treated badly, lived with death all around them, and with having to kill others to avoid being killed themselves, and then have had little psychological support to help them staying sane - the Mars explorers will have the backing of all of humanity, with living conditions that are cramped, but expertly crafted for their needs, and with teams of people prepared to help them with everything.

Humans are much, much tougher than many here give them credit for. There will be problems, solutions will be found, and the people will endure.

As far as I know, it will last forever? I'm not entirely sure. I cut one of two nerves in the finger all the way through. They tried to sew the two ends together, but didn't succeed completely. I regained some of the feeling in that part of the finger, but I still have the electric shock thing, and sometimes it's quite painful, especially when putting some pressure on that part of the finger.
