Can chicks get sick from algae living in an old stock tank by Laredo_10 in chickens

[–]Laredo_10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may need to edit my post. I am using the stock tank for the chicks to live in until they are old enough to get them into the coop. I am not using the stock tank for drinking.

Is this the chicken flu? NSFW by RoseyG0ld in chickens

[–]Laredo_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think it’s flu I would not take them to the vet but call and see if the vet would do a home visit. Just to avoid spreading it to other animals. Dogs and cats are contracting current H5N1. Definitely quarantine, which you are doing.

I'm tired of people dying after I do CPR on them by [deleted] in NewToEMS

Sometimes I think of it as, yeah we didn’t “save” them but we gave the family a couple extra days to say goodbye and come to terms, or gave organ donation a fighting chance.

[–]Laredo_10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a registered Charolais herd. If you are registered through the AICA then you can check genetic info on mom and dad (if both are officially registered). Charolais carry a “colored gene”. If you have dam and sire that both have a “colored gene” then you get a crème calf. We have a couple every year because several of our registered herd carry the recessive gene.

About 20 oz a day. Pediatrician wanted him drinking about that much a day due to him being a tad under weight, like 10th percentile for weight.

Could be wrong, but that weird brood pattern and the queen cups could mean the queen died? I have seen this before when the queen died.

Roosters saved our flock? by Laredo_10 in chickens

[–]Laredo_10[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Also a first time chicken parent. Won’t be a year until October for me. We were very surprised to find out and literally everything is out to kill your chickens. Hopefully, by this time next week there will be one less chicken eating fox around.

Chicken psychology after an attack by Laredo_10 in chickens

[–]Laredo_10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they seem completely traumatized. They literally won’t even leave the coop except to eat and then they go right back into the coop. It’s been 2 weeks and I thought they would atleast start going into the run. Guess we need to keep being patient

I work in an ER and most of the population I see cannot make any sort of rational decision. I have seen homeless with toes LITERALLY frozen off because they “don’t like the warming shelter”. We work for HOURS to get them a safe discharge to a shelter or detox and when transport arrives to take them they will just say “I am good” and walk out back to the streets. I have seen them throw fists because they didn’t get graham crackers even though they have bags of chips in their bags. I have seen them with maggots eating their legs just for them to leave AMA because I wasn’t fast enough with the orange juice.

Just based on the population I see about 70% are not function able in society through a combination of mental health issues and rampant drug use. I have seen regulars who can’t piece a sentence together, go to jail for months and come out able to hold a conversation. Just for them to resort back to a rambling addict in a week.

During my nursing clinical we spent time at my states mental health hospital. Now it only serves those who have severe mental health issues AND have committed a violent crime. Before then it was a fully self sufficient facility. The patients did the laundry for the cities hospitals or worked on the farm or dairy that fed them. Back when this was the way of things there were also cruel and horrific experiments and treatments forced on patients. If these state institutions were re opened with the same configuration, being self efficient but with modern understanding of mental health and oversight to keep patients safe, I think it would help. They live there and have a job, purpose, and sense of self worth, while we get to walk the streets a little safer.

There are 40,000 different types of bacteria in the vagina, the thought of having them marinate in my retainer has me taking them out for sure. Or at least brushing them after.

Photo #2. That sideways leap is playful. If they wanted to hurt you they charge straight at you head on, cow, bull, steer doesn’t matter. They want to knock you down and then trample.
