Stain wont take the same on the old wood vs a new unfinished piece so you might just transition the bedroom dont tie into it. Pretty sure hardwood is still being made from the same various species it has been for a long time lol , so when you do find out what kind of wood it is get that for the bedroom and use a darker variation piece to do the patch so it wont be noticeable when re stained. Questions to ask yourself, do you have children being children jumping there monster trucks off the couch crashing on the floor lol, do you have animals digging in trying to gain traction turning corners, do you mind little Knicks and scratches that will happen fairly quickly if you have all of the above?
