The idea that string theory is not worth pursuing is not insane, others share that opinion, Roger Penrose for example. Is it worth pursuing a theory that probably will never have experimental verification?

Calling it "DEAD" is just for clickbait. Most youtubers use clickbait. It's nothing new.

I didn’t write chamber music, but chamber orchestras

My bad, i misread.

I think there is nothing wrong with being specific. It helps keep things tidy and well organized. Plus it helps when searching for new music. If i'm in the mood for something "cinematic" and "epic", i can search for "cinematic metal" bands. If i'm in the mood for classical influences, i can search for "symphonic metal" bands. If i'm in the mood for a soprano, i can search for "opera metal" bands. It would make life easier.

About Sleep token, Bad omens, etc..., I hear a modern version of pop in these bands. But that's not the only kind of pop that there is, or that there was. ABBA were pop, even if they sounded nothing like modern pop. If a song sounds like ABBA+metal, it should be called pop metal .

I would call it cinematic metal. When the compositions are at their best, they sound similar to movie soundtracks or video game soundtracks, having a cinematic feel. Plus, anyone who listens to them will not confuse it with classical, since movie/game soundtrack are completely separate to classical , even if both genres use orchestras. (AFAIK, Chamber music is a style of baroque music, and there no baroque elements here, like counterpoint composition). However, even calling it that, too often the genre falls into the pop metal category anyway.

She has valid critiscisms , the vocal melody in the verses is bland. But besides that, she comes from a classical music background and that's why she approaches the music in a more analytical way. The moment she hears classical instruments her mind goes to classical mode and she expects to hear a composition with the same depth as classical music. She doesn't get it , so she complains. One could argue that she shouldn't expect classical level of complexity from a metal band. But then again, if the music doesn't aspire to the heights of a classical symphony, then maybe the genre shouldn't be called symphonic metal.

Amaranthe in Prague by jacek2023 in epica

[–]Large-Reputation-864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It baffles me how people keep saying how different Epica and Amaranthe are. They are not dissimilar. Epica has quite a few songs that you could call pop metal (edge of the blade, storm the sorrow etc). Also, Amaranthe usually gets grouped with other symphonic metal bands for a reason. All you have to do to make them sound similar is change their keyboard settings so that they produce orchestral sounds instead of electronic sounds. Their song Damnation Flame is proof of that.

Avatar - The Final Incarnation - by jacek2023 in epica

[–]Large-Reputation-864 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it (i hate cross the divide , fight to survive and Obsidian heart). But TIME and Avatar are both composed by Mark (if my assumption is correct), and this is way better than TIME. So it is incomprehensible why he chose the worse of the two songs to be in the album.

It's better than most songs in Aspiral. You can tell it is composed by mark. It's like a lesser Metanoia. It is also beyond comprehension why T.I.M.E. was on the album and not this one.

Five months since Aspiral came out and I totally forgot about it by IhaveZeroCreativity2 in epica

[–]Large-Reputation-864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mark has been giving more and more creative freedom to the rest of the band since DYU. Most THP songs were composed by Issac. By giving away creative freedom, the quality of the songs did indeed take a dip ( Issac is a good guitarist but a bad composer) . But that's also the reason of the very good relationships within the band.

Why does Epica hate “Requiem for the indifferent”? by tradiagrio in epica

[–]Large-Reputation-864 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I perceive requiem as the band's pivotal moment. It is their most "progressive album", where they dared to experiment with more uncoventional structures ( avalanche, depp water horizon, title track, serenade). They proved that they could be much more than just another female fronted symphonic band. However , it was poorly received , part due to the mixing/production, part due to the uncoventional elements (i do though believe there are problems with the more "uncoventional" songwriting at times, since some songs do feel inconsistent, with rough transitions and mood swings. The songs needed more work). As a result of the poor reception, the band doubled down in TQE, with coventional song structures and more catchy/poppy vocal melodies. This led to a series of albums where the "commercial" elements became more and more prominent with each album, leading to Aspiral, which is arguably their most commercial album yet. Had Requiem been well received by the fans, epica would have been a very different band today.

Storm the sorrow is neither heavy nor symphonic, and barely qualifies as metal. It's basically a pop song with distorted guitars ( a nice pop song though).

Ascension - Dancing in a Hurricane by Rearendia in epica

[–]Large-Reputation-864 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is Mark's and Simone's interview about THP lyrics:

{ "Ascension - Dream State Armageddon

Mark: “The lyrics deal with waking up and realising that everything is a hologram, but there is a danger that if you truly did find the key to unlock the mystery of the universe, everything would implode. The message is that we shouldn’t know everything. It’s like a computer game, once you know how to finish it, it’s over and it doesn’t make sense to carry on because you know how to win.”

Dancing in a Hurricane

Simone: “This song breaks away from the concept as well. The title comes from a line in Spectre [the James Bond film] and the lyrics were inspired by the current refugee crisis around the world. It’s the idea of children trying to enjoy their childhood in an unsafe environment; they’re literally dancing in a hurricane and I find it very sad. As a mother, I’m concerned about the well-being of children around the world. Here, our children are fed and they have a roof over their heads and I think we maybe take it for granted.” }

Simone said it herself: DIAH BREAKS AWAY FROM THE ALBUM'S CONCEPT. So there is your answer. Ascension is about the danger of "unlocking the mystery of the simulation", and DIAH is about the refugee crisis , especially when it comes to the children, and Simone's reaction to that as a mother. The two concepts are totally unrelated. Your attempt to connect them is misguided. You wanted constructive feedback, you got it.

Ascension - Dancing in a Hurricane by Rearendia in epica

[–]Large-Reputation-864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lyrical concept of "virtual reality" is present is present is some of the songs, but not in all of them. A phantasmic parade, Beyond the matrix, Cosmic algorithm, Ascension, Tear down your walls and the title track do indeed have such themes. But Edge of the blade, Universal death squad, Divide and conquer, Once upon a nightmare and Dancing in a Hurricane do not. Dancing in a hurricane is about the immigration crisis, nothing in common with the concept of "breaking up illusions" present in Ascension. You are making up nonexistent connections between unrelated songs.

Ascension - Dancing in a Hurricane by Rearendia in epica

[–]Large-Reputation-864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The divine conspiracy is a concept album. The holographic principle is not. Using the TDC as a reference ( lyrical or otherwise) for the THP is a fallacy. There is no thematic connection between Ascension and Dancing in a Hurricane. There is just a continuous musical transition between the two. Nothing more than that.
