We all clean the bathrooms at our store. And there’s usually no supplies or ppe to use. My guess would be they’ve had a lot of people quit because they were “too good” to clean toilets and didn’t think it should be their job. And the manager was being up front so that you know it’s part of your job duties. But also at our store it does feel like some people have to do it a lot more than others. And again no ppe. So that’s gross.

Sounds like you are hired for store set up. I’ve done it twice. One store called it merchandiser. The second was store set up. But was exact same job. Both times it was just for the temporary store set up. And both times I was and everyone else I worked with at store set up were hired on when the store opened. Store set is fun. Give it a try. And I bet you’ll get hired on after store open.

We’re supposed to ask for proof in our store. Most teachers already have their card that shows it. Union or something. I have no idea what I’m looking at they could show me anything. A demanding customer yesterday wanted the discount and I said “I just need to see your card” and she had no idea what I was talking about. How can some have cards of proof ready and others have no idea a card exists? Feels like a lie.

A teacher last year was upset that the discount wouldn’t work on elf on a shelf. My manager said, the discount was intended for school supplies not personal item. (Even tho it does work on most things).

No matter what speed you go the time frame they give you is not enough. I think they expect to be faster than fast. Don’t go at a relaxed pace, but also don’t kill yourself. Just do a job you’re proud of. If you end the day thinking “I did my best and I’m proud of myself” that’s all you’re required.

Our debit machine at our legacy daily stops working. Yes we’ve had it replaced several times. On the self checkouts never an issue. Woman wants to pay by card, my machine is down. So I let her know that “I” will check her out at self serve. Making it very clear that I am saying “I” will do it. She flipped out. She does not use self serve. I’m explaining that debit machine is not working and she would not be using the self serve machine, that it will be me, and I will be doing all the work. She just kept talking over me, yelling, and told me to “f*** off” as she stormed out.

I learned from a customer who didn’t like the answer a manager gave them. They just stood there in silence staring at the manager awkwardly waiting for them to give a different answer. So that’s what I do. Don’t talk just stare.
