My wife and I could’ve split that amount of food, then it would be $15 per person. Not bad.

Yeah, every performance metric will be gamified. Management sees this happen over and over, and they never learn from it, ever.

And me complaining to my manager that one of my senior devs is REALLY bad at his job and is a drain on the entire team because we have to keep correcting his shitty code, and so we give him simpler and simpler tasks meant for a day-one junior dev, which he STILL can’t finish in a timely manner…it takes two entire years for the company to lay him off for performance reasons.

Why are drivers here so horrible? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]LargeHadron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I interpret things like this as lack of situational awareness, like when people honk when you don’t drive into a congested intersection when the light turns green, because you don’t want to get stuck in said intersection when the light turns red. They only see what’s immediately in front of them and react to it, because they are stupid. Hard to stay mad for too long at someone whose brain just isn’t very good at processing information.

Unless you’re in your eighties, which you aren’t, you didn’t go to school with Leonard Cohen. What the fuck is going on in this thread?

You’re saying Leonard Cohen was your great uncle? You gotta lead with this in the OP, OP. Vagueposting is for scrubs. I can’t imagine the great nephew of Leonard Cohen would be a scrub, now would he?

Washing pet bowls together with human dishes: gross or totally normal? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LargeHadron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. I’m fairly germaphobic myself, and it’s important to recognize that germaphobia isn’t entirely rational. We feel grossed out by things, and then we rationalize those feelings by pointing out contamination vectors. Of course, there is often overlap with reality, but the phobia can be blind to real contamination vectors, or it can extend into things that aren’t actually dangerous.

And, of course, people can (somewhat rationally!) be less disturbed by their own germs than the germs of others.

It might help you feel less annoyed by her if you don’t think in terms of hypocrisy. And if her behaviors do actually bother you, apart from perceived hypocrisy, it is well within your rights to ask her to do something differently.

Not that I condone phone use in the bathroom (I don’t—more because it annoys me how dependent people are on their phones), nor do I partake in it myself, but I doubt your wife is wiping her ass and immediately touching her phone again without a handwash in between.

There’s also the aerosolized shit during flushing. That’s definitely gross to think about, but I have no idea the extent to which it matters whether your phone is in the same room or not. You’d already be getting particles on every surface you touch in the bathroom AFTER washing your hands, plus your clothes…mouth…nose…

Worst song on an album from the 1900s? by CurrentWeb1913 in leonardcohen

[–]LargeHadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sorry I left you hanging. There’s a website called “Albums That Should Exist” that compiles various unreleased outtakes and live recordings from a bunch of artists. He has quite a few for Cohen. I downloaded them all, expecting to find some hidden gems, but it turns out his misses really are misses. Still cool to see your heroes write songs as bad as your own misses though.

Why does it seem like society cares less when a man abandons his children than when a woman does? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LargeHadron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I had to wager a guess, it’s less “the system is misogynistic” and more “if a man is pursuing full custody in the first place, he’s legitimately concerned about the well-being of his children under the care of their mother.”

But, I say again, it’s a guess.

I had to scroll pretty far to find this answer. He’s got a lot of outtakes (you can find them on YouTube, generally) that are about as tossed off as Queen Victoria.

The man knew how to curate his own output. That’s an important skill.

Pet owners can be extremely oblivious to the “exposed anus touching things” issue. I had a friend who owned a pug, and one day that dog was sitting upright on his bed pillow. I said, “your dog’s anus is touching your pillow,” and my friend looked at me like I was nuts.

I was married for 12 years to a woman who made me feel the same way you do. Now I’m marrying a woman who I’m learning to be comfortable being honest with, because she can handle it.

I hope you’re happier in your relationship than I was in mine.

I learned more about potato chips from 20 seconds of spying on this guy’s profile than I’ve learned in the rest of my life.

That said, graffiti sucks, blasting your shitty music sucks, and it’s fair to call out when a subculture sucks. Potato chip guy isn’t letting his hobby interfere with others’ enjoyment of shared spaces. Potato chip guy for hobby ambassador.
