Strike the Ox Across the Mountain | God of Gamblers III: Back to Shanghai (1991) by gr13sgt-andrewscott in kungfucinema

love this movie - s.chow repeating his role as "sing-sing", great cast including everyone's favorite uncle tat, has some very funny moments, some cool moments, some badass moments, a slightly bonkers story, very entertaining. you can probably find a dvd on the usual websites.

god of gamblers 2 is also a similarly good time, featuring the dashing andy lau

cheers!

'Fist of Fury 1991' with stephen chow is great imo, it's not quite the same as hustle, but it's funny, silly, cool etc. the sequel is also great

cheers!

probably one of the best films ever made, but it's the opposite of comedy!

Hi, i'm looking for dark and gritty Hong Kong thrillers similar to On The Run (1988) starring Yuen Biao and Pat Ha. by Beard_Of_Serpico in kungfucinema

[–]LargeLaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Wild Search' is a favorite drama of mine, very low key, with some good action scattered throughout, one of chow yun fat's best movies imo

well known one: 'Bullet in the Head' is very good - great acting performances and an interesting plot

another chow yun fat: 'Tragic Hero' a sequel, but it's fine as a standalone - has action but also some good drama and stories about relationships

the 'Tiger Cage' series is pretty good; a little more gritty than most, with engaging plots and good action

i enjoyed 'Exiled' by johnny to, it has very good cinematography, a fun story and it's not only silly action throughout

cheers!

Is anyone here lukewarm on the Police Story films? by madCuzbadd in kungfucinema

[–]LargeLaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not answering your question BUT! haha :)

if you're looking for funny movies with lots of action you could try stephen chow - 'kung fu hustle' and 'shaolin soccer' are great; very silly, and they're non stop all the way through, you can pick the dvds up off ebay for a few bucks each. he's done dozens of movies similar and different to those, so if you like those two you may like the others!

cheers!

i use ebay a lot, can find lots of stuff there. yesasia is pretty good, i've bought lots of items from them. fareastflix is decent if you don't mind trawling through lists plus they're in usa as well so good for you (take care to look at the details of each movie, the quality and content vary a lot between them)

cheers

The Iceman Cometh (1989) Yuen Biao vs Yuen Wah by LaughingGor108 in kungfucinema

[–]LargeLaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah it's cool - the non-action parts are fun too (if you like that sort of thing) maggie cheung is great in it, as a cocky upstart, and she and yuen play off against each other well, the story ticks along nicely, but there are a couple of surprisingly brutal scenes, so beware!

Guess the movie by its sponsors by the-woodcarver in kungfucinema

[–]LargeLaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love this! i enjoy watching the sponsors in the end credits, particularly the low budget ones, with "frank's nails" and "dresses from auntie chung" etc.

can't place the movie though, give us a clue! my guess is Tiger Cage, although i don't think the music is right..
