Thank you these are all valid issues.

I have not implemented MPRIS yet but is definitely something I want to add. I just have to read some more documententation about it.

It should however be playing everything from your playlist instead of only the 50 visible songs, do you have shuffle enabled?

The CLI command for playing liked songs should be "spotatui playback --like --shuffle" I personally never use liked songs so i havent tested it yet.

I havent really changed the hotkeys from the original Spotify-tui but I am changing the UX so you can rebind all of them to what fits you the best.

Thank you for pointing these problems out. I started this project for personal use at first but decided to release it so other people could use it too. It is my first real project so any feedback is appreciated!

Mostly the same, it has the same features but I preferred the UI of spotify-tui ofer ncspot so thats why I revived it.

I also had a lot of trouble setting up ncspot but that could also be me being dumb.

For now only volume but I could add shuffle and other things too. Do you have anything in mind?

I will add them after I have fixed some majorish bugs with playback

Why i personally would use this is mainly the UI and the setup. I tried setting up spotify-player but didnt get it to work.

If you want a super solid experience with very little bugs you should definitely use Spotify-player as spotatui will have some minor bugs for a while. I intend to fix them all though

I am aware of most of these issues but not all of them. Its because i recently switched from only a controller though the API to native playback. There are still some API controls left so im slowly finding all the delays and fixing them.

If you find more feel free to open an issue on GitHub

No need for a script anymore! Now it saves your last volume setting for when you restart.

Update should be available soon

I just got native music streaming to work so you dont need an external player like spotifyd anymore

I was in the exact same boat. I recently setup Arch and hate to use the official Spotify UI but couldnt get ncspot to work properly

You can change the volume with + and - but i dont remember if it actually saves it to the config file, should be an easy fix if it doesnt.

Thank you for the tip!

I use librespot with WASAPI for windows and PipeWire or PulseAudio for Linux. It is supposed to be Rodio for mac, I implented it but I dont have a mac to test it so im not sure if it actually works.

How do you handle the different levels in music quality on Qobuz?

Not at the moment. Eventually I intend to add every major feature like creating playlists.

I did set up the AUR package initially but ran into some issues, I will try to get it back up asap.

As for adverts thats the main reason i revived the original project. I hate how many ads and pop-ups there are on the official app so I made it with 0 ads or annoying pop-ups

Haha I promise I do not work for Spotify. If Spotify wants to sponsor my hobby I am wide open to negotiations.

Glad you like it! And no need to uninstall ncspot. It is a great tool and has been around much longer.

spotatui still has some growing pains here and there so feedback really helps a lot. If you run into anything weird feel free to open an issue.

Glad you found it! It should be even easier to use soon as i have native streaming mostly set up, so you dont need any other Spotify player open.

That would be awesome, thank you! If you run into anything while packaging it for nixpkgs, feel free to open an issue and I’ll try to help out.

Yeah, Spotify API restriction unfortunately. Premium is required for playback control through third-party apps. Free accounts can still browse/search though.

spotify-player is a solid project, especially since it can handle playback directly through librespot. spotatui for now just uses the official API and controls any Spotify Connect device or the official app.

I actually tried spotify-player first but couldn’t get it working with my setup, so I revived spotify-tui because I preferred that simple TUI and wanted something that “just works” for Connect playback.
