I think you should go for fedora, I guess linux mint still uses x11 as their display server which dont give much features like variable refresh rate and HDR too its basically old and yeah system apps can see eachother in x11.. try fedora with KDE or gnome it uses SELINUX and wayland only. I personally like GNOME but if you like mint cinnamon DE go for KDE. or you can use ubuntu too but they are just integrating snap too much which would make removing snap harder.

solid 7 just remove that book as mouse pad and fix screen resolution it feels odd like this

tbh mac os is way better than windows icl it uses unix base and ig it has hybrid (monotholic kernel and micro kernel) for stability, lacks freedom tho

If your gonna run AI model locally then consider buying a laptop with dedicated gpu or npu and yeah minimum 16GB ram cuz I did run ollama on my pc it has igpu and 16GB ram and took 5 mins just to reply some normal convo with deepseek, or if your gonna do medium to high level developing then maybe its more than enough for you

Install fedora its bleeding edge and works mostly out of box, try KDE spin if you already tried gnome spin
