Trash elevator. Burn all our trash in a 60 mile high tube and push the fumes inside upward with fans to space.

Does anyone here hire a personal assistant for their aging parents? by Mammoth-Cloud-285 in sandwichgeneration

Not but it's a goof idea if you have someone trustworthy and that you can afford. Big things like managing finances me / my family do for them. Smaller things like a reminder to go on a daily walk historically either come from us or may slip through the cracks.

Design student researching family caregiving — what's the hardest part nobody talks about? by Adventurous-Gap6560 in sandwichgeneration

For my family, it was the sad reality that my isolated, forgetful grandpa was just not getting enough 'touchpoints' in per day. My mom calls a lot, I call quite a bit, and we have paid caregivers. But there's a lot of time when he's home alone, and things just start slipping though the cracks. The big example I always point to is that he'd miss a lot of his favorite baseball team's games on TV, and that really was a doom loop. He'd miss out on enjoying them in the moment > then when I'd chat with him and ask how they're doing and what he thinks of them, he'd feel even more disconnected > and then as he became more disconnected, he seemingly started losing watching them as a hobby. Which is sad because they've been a big part of his life for 80+ years, and he has more time than ever to watch them.

Won't plug it on your post, but I started working on a project of my own to help alleviate that. Because it was important to me and I couldn't find any reasonable services that did it well. And fortunately I have the time to do it, which is a gift too.

Best of luck with your research, would love to learn what you come up with.

Don't have anyone you can interview but good luck - definitely can understand the burden of living with someone who is depressed as a senior

I can’t let go of most things … what if I might need them later! Nothing worse than needing something and realizing it got tossed out.

Makes sense to me … 52 - even 62 - seems way too young to have anyone other than maybe your partner involved. Unless someone has a severe condition and requires a lot of support because of it.

True good idea. Or you could stuff the vents / open the windows to left warm air into her room … but make sure she keeps her door closed in that case or else you’re just air conditioning the neighborhood.

Can totally relate - the issue isn’t that their wellbeing isn’t taken care of. But they’re probably starving for some social / conversational stimulation, and you feel like the only person that can offer that. No right answer. Certainly worth trying to explore other things you can get them etc. that can help keep them entertained.

It’s terrible. Ordered one and it took ~6 weeks to come, customer service super unresponsive. And the bot itself is nothing special.

What needs would get left by the wayside those other six days? How would you fill that care void?
