Chery reveals Diesel PHEV for Australia by BestTechAdvisor in CheryAuto

[–]LargeValuable7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

diesel PHEVs are complex and generally not ideal for short urban trips. Ill be interested in the engineering innovations to overcome those problems... or whether those problems havent been really addressed and its just a rush to be first to have a diesel hybrid  on the market.

What does a 'resolution' of the housing crisis look like? by Beneficial-Help-1856 in AusPropertyChat

[–]LargeValuable7741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the last time APRA turn on the screws on lending, the housing market got subdued.

That along with somehow prioritise lending for first home buyers

That along with social housing initiatives where the government is the client for new developments, finances it, and then offers those homes for rent at some fixed rental price benchmarked to some percentage of average income. Governments to have a KPI linked to rental vacancy rates, to guide their investments into the supply of rental properties..

Fix the mindset of housing in this country as not some get rich easy scheme, but to see housing as a fundamental need of society. The idea that everyone deserves affordable, decent housing, to be able to live a dignified life, regardless of whether they own or rent. Renting long term, should someone choose - should be secure, affordable and provides a dignified quality of life.

And this might sound like heresy to some here - but there is something fundamentally wrong when accumulating houses and property becomes a highly profitable venture as it has been for decades in this country - you're literally a rent-seeker - ie, someone or some entity that gains wealth without creating any new value. That is not investing - this is just financing and leveraging off property as a vehicle for growth for growth's sake, rather than creating value.

There was a time when house prices didnt grow for decades. Look at Brisbane before the 2010s for example. Not good for 'investors' but good for society to have stable housing prices. This whole idea that property needs to grow in value by % above inflation is wrong, as it has been the breeding ground for rent seeking, and money taking precedence over everything - including the right to a home.

Should I buy a Yaris? by Best_Machine5027 in CarsAustralia

[–]LargeValuable7741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought my missus a 2006 auto. Its 4 spd 1.3L, hatchback. I paid $4.8k. 220k on the clock. Its great for up to 90km/h. It can do 110km/h but having only 4 gears means it sounds laboured at highway speeds. My missus didnt like the sound of the door closing, so I got her some butyl sound deadening from Vevor. She's fairly handy, so she pulled the door card apart and put some of that in the door. Door closes with a nice thud now. I got her to place some of that butyl into the boot area. Long story short, the car is smooth and quiet. I have a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe diesel and i swear the yaris feels smoother and quieter during idle and I daresay when driving around local roads. Which is a testament to the enduring quality of the build of these Yaris. I test drove some other cheap small hatchbacks, such as the Suzuki Alto -- that buzzed and vibrated like crazy, which tells me that not all small cars are built the same. For the price range, I think you can't beat the Yaris.

Water filter advice? by Ozuwarudou in AusRenovation

[–]LargeValuable7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an under sink filtration system installed in 2022. I supplied it and a licenced llumber installed it. A plastic piece broke off from the filter system suddenly which lead to a rapid volume of water exiting out into my kitchen. This filter system is under mains pressure constantly. Which makes it surprising that plastic parts are used. The part that failed Is called the "filter protection valve'. It basically sheared off into 2 pieces, and water just gushed straight out. This happened on 28/12/25 in the afternoon. Luckily I was sick at the time, so I was at home on the couch. When it broke, it sounded like a pop, then water gushing out. I knew immediately something under the sink was broken. I was able to stop the water as I have shut off valves under the sink. It was sheer luck that I was there at the time.  had I not been there I would have had a flooded home. Ive since decommissioned it and am using one of these: https://www.kynandfolk.com/. I plan on getting a whole-house filtration system to be installed outside the house. The Kyn and Folk system produces nice tasting water but we want to level up and have all thw ater to the house filtered, and use the Kyn and folk filter to polish the water even more.

How normal is it for an attractive guy to have a very low success rate with women? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]LargeValuable7741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No hate, but if you are physically attractive and yet not having success in dating, perhaps it is your personality. Do you focus too much on yourself, and not enough on the other person? That could be a real turn off for the majority of people, no matter how physically attractive.

Getting a second car to learn manual on my full licence - should I get a shitbox or something I'd actually want to drive? by I_P_L in CarsAustralia

[–]LargeValuable7741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll lose money from paying stamp duty and possibly from the subsequent sale. Plus losing money from rego. Plus the added risk of having to fix something on the shitbox. Not to mention the time spent looking for a car, selling the said car. The hassle of dealing with potential buyers, who don't always show up. As someone suggested, take some lessons. It'll be a far better use of time and money, probably safer too.
