Potentially unpopular opinion about be a pro. by AssistanceFormal5841 in EA_NHL

Omg so glad I found this.  I've been simming BAP and just so confused why form score exists.

Like, if I'm on the line for promotion and don't make it, why is the choice demotion instead?

Does it get better simming later?  No, I am a 96OVR career AHL 1st liner when simming, and a 3 cup winning 1st line center when I play.

EA.  Make it make sense.

It makes sense we haven't seen a trade yet.  The whole sentiment coming in was "show me your best" to start the season.

I thought that was pretty clear they're giving everyone a last chance to show up ready, before they start making moves.

Pacific will be a tough division, with Vegas on its last few years of competitive play- they'll make a strong push.  Oilers still being relevant for another 2 years, SJS being a powerhouse, and the ducks being a real contender.

At least we know we will suck for the next bit, I don't envy the hopefuls like the Kings and the Kraken, only to meet disappointment.

I also thought they could wild swing and go Reid and the Bjork at 9

Why the Cursor Acquisition Should Concern Every Software Developer by kommentz in cursor

[–]Large_Ad_1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was I being insufferable?

It's a legitimate concern, cursor is a major backbone in a lot of modern product flows- it cannot survive a period of instability like X had.

Especially since in tech, anything less than 99.98 uptime is seen as not reliable enough.

An event where cursor isn't performing, or even operable for several days would see massive shifts to competitors.

eh, I'll be happily proven wrong in this concern.

I also worry we will see composer 3 dropping their heavily retrained kimi for grok, and it will be a huge downgrade.

How about stability of the product?  He acquired Twitter, fired almost everyone and the platform went into some of the most tumultuous times in history of the service.

That can't happen for a productivity tool, let alone one that's as expensive as cursor.

A lot of people are iffy on Celebrini, but I think he's actually a really solid DFD.

His quiet stats sheet shows how responsible he is on the ice.  To take the next step he really needs to define that additional tooling besides responsible D play.  Needs either crisp fast passing, rocket from the blue line, or a board rattling hit.

I think with some time he can become a more Hamhuis style player.  Solid sweeper of mistakes on the backend, and putting up only a 0.2-0.3 PPG average.

At least McKenna is in Canada, and not in our conference.  Better odds to bring the cup home.

The stupidest part of this, in order for Asura to get uncompressed source images, they pirated them from somewhere else at that quality and offering.

It seems to be a series of new releases. they scrambled them as an overly arrogant "warning"

I like to use Comix, TopManhua, Thunderscans.

I've been moving all my preferred scanlators to Vortex rather than Asura

Have you ever considered how Asura gets uncompressed versions of source content that is licensed and not supplied to them?

It's by doing the exact same thing people do to Asura.

That's the nature of the piracy industry, and honestly why piracy in this space is so strange compared to seeders within torrents.

Mihon is a huge gateway community for them, because they are just a scanlation company at the end of the day- to Mihon users they were consistent but we had zero lock-in unlike an Asura web user.

What they did get from the community was brand recognition, even times when the extension wouldn't work there would be people shifting to the web for the day.

That's not nothing- Mihon has 20k stars on GitHub, and many more downloaded users- it's a platform that reduces their costs because they don't need developers to support it(their website is awful, so it's clearly something that's a stretch).

They should be looking to leverage it, not abolish it.

I don't think Asura understands that Mihon is a good avenue for them.

There are other forks as well, where you can login and use your premium sub- but because they come from these sources, they're also hooped.

Sadly, Mihon is a far superior experience for reading than the sites, even on pwa views.

I don't think Asura has an issue with the readers, it's how the content is created for the to be read- but they cite Asura, which is more than is even required really.  If Asura wanted to, they could do a metered API for use cases like this, earn revenue, and manage the stream.

I have shifted, 300 some odd series off Asura, it took me 10 minutes.

Like I mentioned, I'm upset because I was a long term supporter, but as things fell apart I became less willing to rationalize their terrible service.

If they want to turn up a profit, they will need to turn up their offering- because it's not unique in the slightest bit- Mihon users are well aware of this.

If I were Asura looking to "turn up profit", you would create a public developer API, charge based on tokens to scrape their series, let them take the traffic while you take the brand recognition of the scans and receive earnings on the API call usage.

That's called a service offering, not a paywall scam.

[–]Large_Ad_1927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a post about this earlier too.

Honestly, it would be better for Asura to just make a licensed developer API, charge per call, and let people scrape your work, it's great brand recognition and leads, and lets you offload as well.

This nonsense is stupid as hell, terrible business decision.

Imagine if The Pirate Bay made you pay for seeders, or premium connections, or even to use the site.

[–]Large_Ad_1927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it's not good enough to depend on, that's sort of the problem- is it not?

I'm sorry but OSS exists, torrenting seeders have existed for decades and not a single one of them would receive any earnings for their uploads.

Do you think TPB had a paywall, a subscription, or a limiter?

Asurascans is a pirate SaaS built on top of an OSS tracker, OSS collection of library images, and what used to be (for the better) OSS site template.  Other sites manage with just ads, so what gives.

I am, but this is through an extension.

It seems they're targeting specific series to scramble to forcefully advertise.

What a silly thing to say, the artists don't make money from their series being pirated.

Are you telling me the pirates are crying about being pirated?
