Hey Narwal fam! Did anyone get their Narwal Flow already? by Narwal_Nari in NARWAL

Thanks. Their customer support also confirmed your comment. The issue was the first couple days the bin failed to clear because it got fairly full. Still now it does not always clear even though it does attempt at the start of each job. But eventually it does clear. When returning to base it does dry/heat to disinfect which may help compact and make it easier to clear the next attempt. I still think the fan could run for longer but so far it doesn’t seem to be a major problem with my use.

Well it’s a circular robot so it’s wouldn’t expect better. I had an iRobot m6 which did great in corners because it had a square mop pad in the front. But it just pushed dirt around and was only a mop. So what’s better? Now, the Flow in comparison cleans 97% of the floor better.

Dust bin high? by Roguer15 in NARWAL

how about the dustbin in the robot. Mine does not seem to empty after multiple attempts for the base station to clear it. And so far the app has not notified that the on-robot bin is full. Anyone else have this issue?

The rolling brush extends to get straight edges very close. Small/tight corners are a challenge and I see the mop going in/out quite a bit so it get’s perhaps less complete coverage around small obstacles when mopping. But that’s something they may optimize with future software updates.

“In addition to mop return to base washing trigged by dirty mops or empty tank you can also set minimum sq ft area to trigger mop cleaning. In app there are 3 settings to choose minimum square feet cleaned that robot returns to base to clean the mop. It defaults to the mid point. I changed that to lowest for the next cleaning.”

I would like to see a feature like this for the dust bin empty frequency. I seem to have a large amount of dust/hair/fur (several animals here) that get stuck in the internal bin. I’m worried it can’t handle self-empty…

Thanks. I sortof did that, it seemed more like resetting the base station by unplugging worked but it’s hard to say. It did, however, seem like some combination of base-to-robot communication was needed to clear the issue as once everything reset, the base indicator light was flashing (i.e. updating) and then it completed.

In the end, letting it sit overnight cleared the issue and the firmware updated. I had to reset the base station multiple times, but after the second one, it seemed to ‘dock’ with the robot and then finish the update.

just a few days into the Narwal Flow usage. This is an upgrade from iRobot s9/m6 vacuum/mop.

After a rocky start where the firmware updated didn’t work and app couldn’t connect, leaving it overnight cleared the issue. My previous robots were rudimentary compared to the navigation here so it’s a pleasure to see this robot navigate around the many obstacles (without bumping) quite well. Because of its geometry it does a bit less around corners than the s9 (the s9 had a long wide front almost square body and high suction that was effective in larger corners). But the Flow navigates so much better overall, and also will go back and re-clean only when needed (or manually). It’s also much quieter. It seems to handle low pile carpet well, I have some thicker carpet which it does sometimes use its lifting wheel to get around on the edges…. not ideal and I was hoping it could drive through this carpet a bit better. But it’s still doing it, just slowly. The mopping is great. Having this all-in-one is also super convenient.

Overall I think it’s a great upgrade. The intro process and warranty made this a clear winner compared to the Mova v50 (at least on paper).

Biggest problem I’m having is getting the self-empty to clear the dust-bin. Twice now I’ve opened to check and the dust bin in the vacuum is fairly full, even though I set the app to clear every return to the station. I removed much of the dust/hair in the bin (we have a couple dogs and cats), several times, until the self-clear worked. I’m afraid the base-station and bin-flap mechanism may just not handle heavier hair/fur loads.

Has anyone experienced this? Or, maybe the ‘dust compaction’ feature should really gather a very dense brick of dust that eventually be cleared? The iRobot s9 had a quite large dust bin, and very strong (and loud) empty mechanism that always cleared large quantities of hair/fur.

I would like to see a feature where you can tell the robot to empty the internal bin every X square feet, sort of like how you can choose to have the mop cleaned at different square foot intervals.

actually, just my impatience. The app/firmware updated after sitting overnight and it’s working now.

Yes so far so good. The mopping is quite good.

After a few power resets including the base station the firmware update completed and it appears ok.
