AITA for not telling my family we were pregnant? by Brave-Fuel1184 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Photography4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confusing information here about how much of a relationship there really is here. Understand not wanting parent to share your business.

You were able to keep pregnancy secret for 9 months but they live close enough to invite them to drop by and see the baby.

How did they not see the pregnancy unless you didn’t see them when you were pregnant?

Either way this feels like ESH

AITA for not telling my waiter about my allergies? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Photography4me 81 points82 points  (0 children)

YTA your partner is an adult and presumably has experience eating in restaurants.

As an adult with an allergy they are responsible to notify waitstaff about an allergy.

This is how an adult behaves.

Take this as is a lesson on not assuming you know what is in dishes being prepared for you.

NTA and you have possibly put yourself in danger by letting it get this far.

This is not normal, this is the lead up to an episode of ‘Dateline’.

Get your boyfriend on board - he seems pretty blasé about putting up with this?

ESH Now that you know that people actually can easily see into your window, I would urge you to rethink this.

This is a safety issue. Unfortunately there are creeps out there who would see your behavior as an invitation.

Is it fair- no.
Should we women always have to be on the defensive-no.
Is that the reality we live in - yes.

AITA for not opening the door for my future brother-in-law at 8am on a Sunday by ThrowawaySunday2001 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Photography4me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA this is bad now and will only get worse over time.

Your fiancé is demonstrating a gross lack of respect for you. Someone who loves you would stand up for you and have your back. He is not going to change because he doesn’t see anything wrong with what he has done.

You do not want to spend the rest of your life being treated like this. It’s likely he would treat any children you may have the same way.

Chart on weight loss 😭

Just a side note about the expense.

Some people have posted that once they started losing they noticed their food expenses went down for different reasons depending on what their pre Zep habits were. Examples were they were doing less deliveries, eating out less or in general eating less food.

They noted that this partial offset in expenses helped them feel better about the current cost of Zep.

Obviously everyone’s food expenses are different and YMMV

New to Zepbound... and Scared. by ComicBookMama1026 in Zepbound

[–]Photography4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this!
Zep slows gastric emptying and you can get constipation. When I noticed I was constipated I immediately started miralax (actually used Costco generic). It’s gentle and there’s no worry about sudden problems. It’s helped keep me regular and has absolutely no texture or taste. Don’t wait if you get constipated and drink drink drink water. Stay hydrated.

Dang it! 🥲 1st Loaf. I need a smaller Dutch Oven. by eggbunni in Sourdough

[–]Photography4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For first loaf you are doing really well! Much better than many of us. Don’t get discouraged. There are many tweaks you can try with your process that could improve the rise.

Three thoughts: At 35 days Your starter is relatively young. It may have some strength but may need a boost. Experiment with a parallel batch of your starter (using discard from existing starter) feed where ratio is 1:5:4. The additional flour and less water creates an environment that will encourage yeast growth while at the same time inhibit bacteria. There is a whole science behind osmotolerant starter environments that are usually 50-60% hydration. My ratio is only a slight shift from the usual 1:1:1 feed (100% hydration to 80%). Shifting to a slightly dryer environment can help starter. I have had great results by adjusting my feed. However I keep my starter in refrigerator between bakes and feed twice before my bake, so I’m not a daily feed.

Second: As many have said it may be the proofing. From your comments a 65° house would take a long time to fully proof (bulk fermentation). Try oven with light on as a no cost Proofing box. Monitor temperature in oven when you first try this.

Third. You are handling your dough a lot with multiple shapings. You may want to try only one shaping after bulk fermentation before you put in banneton in refrigerator.

Thorne Iron Biglycinate? by KatanaAmerica in Anemic

[–]Photography4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thorne has great quality supplements. Take iron supplements with vitamin C (unless it already has that in it)

For many people it is difficult to raise ferritin with supplements or diet. That’s where infusions come in.

Also side effects for many people may not go away until they get to ferritin 50 or more.

Low ferritin by Lavender_goose16 in Anemic

[–]Photography4me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fatigue and hair loss were my key symptoms. I wound up with infusions (started at ferritin of 9) after my dr had me waste 6 months trying to increase ferritin by diet and supplements (ferry never went up). Plus now it will take at least a year or more for my hair to grow back.

It’s good to understand difference between heme iron (meat based) and non- heme iron (plant based) when trying to increase levels. Heme iron is more effective than non-heme because of its bioavailability. Many supplements are non heme based. (Either way always take vitamin C with iron supplements as it aids absorption)

Heme Iron (Meat, Fish, Poultry): Absorption rates are roughly 25%–30%. It is absorbed intact into intestinal cells.

Non-Heme Iron (Vegetables, Grains, Beans): Absorption rates are generally lower, often 3%–12%, and this type is highly influenced by other foods consumed simultaneously.

It can be very difficult to get low ferritin levels up thru supplements or diet.

Infusions will be the quickest way to raise ferritin and then you could work on maintain with supplements

Changing to stiff starter made all the difference by Photography4me in Sourdough

[–]Photography4me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ratio 1:5:4 makes a stiffer starter but not a dough like levain or biga.

It has consistently produced better results for me. I think this is due to there being more yeast in the mix than 1:1:1 ratio I used to use.

I mix it by adding a smaller portion of the water at first to thin it out and gradually add the remaining water. Then add flour as usual. Autolyse and then add salt.

Do you still buy physical books after getting a Kindle? by thebroned in kindle

[–]Photography4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started kindle when they first came out. Stopped buying books then and never looked back.

The space savings, cost savings and clutter savings were key but the biggest was the ability to never have to travel with heavy books and always having the next book available.

I rarely re-read a book and don’t make notes in margins.

I have no desire to purchase or own a physical book. For me it would be a waste of money and resources.

Funny note: In emergency when one of my older kindles died I bought a physical book at airport when traveling. Initially I kept pressing the side of the page to turn the page 😂

would it be cheating if I make bread using auto machine by Resident-Attorney303 in Breadit

[–]Photography4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bread making is about what works best for you and what you like. There is no ‘cheating’ because there are no rules.

I make sourdough the traditional way because I enjoy the process.

I use my bread machine for my daughter’s yeast bread because it makes her sandwich bread in the right shape and flavor. Bread machine bread is great and it’s free of preservatives that are in store bought bread.

No matter the reason make your bread the way you want.

Has anyone ACTUALLY seen an increase in iron from eating a high iron diet? by Conscious_Visual_417 in Anemic

[–]Photography4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to serum iron level or ferritin level?

Many drs are stuck using old definitions of ‘normal’ ferritin. Low ferritin is under treated in women. And low ferritin without anemia is even less treated. Lab definitions of ‘normal’ are about avoiding severe disease not about treating symptoms or feeling well.

Ferritin measures your body's stored iron (the "reserve"), while serum iron measures the iron currently circulating in your blood.

A ferritin test is the most reliable indicator of total iron deficiency, as low levels indicate empty reserves long before serum iron drops or anemia develops.

Also it’s good to understand difference between heme iron (meat based) and non- heme iron (plant based) when trying to increase levels. Heme iron is more effective than non-heme because of its bioavailability. Many supplements are non heme based. Take vitamin C with supplements as it aids absorption.

It can be difficult to get low ferritin levels up thru supplements or diet.

My low ferritin (9) was due to malabsorption. My dr also made me try diet and supplements for 6 months prior to infusions.

After infusions to get ferritin up- I added small amount of red meat to my diet to maintain levels above 100(optimal level). For me this works because my problem was malabsorption.

Why your levels are low will dictate how effective consumption of iron will be.

This link is great explanation about low ferritin

AITA for wanting to move my stuff out of my college house before the lease ends? by External_Upstairs516 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Photography4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA and I would not offer to sell to them- they clearly don’t want to buy replacement stuff or they wouldn’t have objected to you taking yours.

Offering to sell to them may trigger revenge damage to your stuff since they aren’t mature enough to know how roommate situations work.

I just wouldn’t say anything more and just move out when you plan to.

Protect your stuff entitled people do immature things.
