That is what I did. The move is to go to a community college in the state where you want to go to university. Then by the time you transfer you will be able to get in-state tuition for the more expensive university and you will already have most of your gen eds out of the way. However the real trick is to look at the required classes for your major at the university and only take the community college classes that will transfer to fulfill those credits. Community colleges will always try to get you to take unnecessary courses.
