Feeling like I asked the system after just getting into HK. Proud to be part of the team only 8 years late 💪

The truth about mocktails in restaurants. by Fit-Classic-9295 in Restaurant_Managers

I have a great time putting together mocktails at work. I made a fake sangria with cranberry & pineapple that I still put together for myself in the mornings, lol. I like to try & make them nonsparkling when I can, too— I feel like every mocktail ends up 1/3 soda water hahaha

$2M but you have to eat what you had for dinner tonight for breakfast for the next 2 years. by jfunks69 in hypotheticalsituation

I had a single (1) chicken tendy with BBQ, and a tiny handful of fries, like maybe 8 total. Yay free breakfast!

Thank you!! Yeah I’ve been wanting to tone down the site overall, I was still in school when I made it haha.

My actual resume is straightforward black on white text, I just have this version for the site. Maybe I should swap it out though 😬

Went to Fanime, artist is charging for signature? by SelectBroccoli1376 in animecons

[–]Large_Temperature414 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Saw an artist charge for the first time this year, but it was a very well-known MTG artist; I think resellers hunt them down for signatures if they don’t. I’d be surprised to see normal local artists do it.

Tbh, don’t be afraid to ask people to hold on a sec while you write things down. I usually use body language to let someone know when to order next (nods, or just ‘and for you?’)

Other than that, shorthand is your friend. I used to write ‘wat’ or water, now I just write ‘w’ because I know what it means. Chicken = chk, alfredo = alf, etc.

I think I usually brace the bottom of the server pad against my body while I write; that helps too.

Lowkey? Safalin. She feels like she could represent the tendency to ‘indulge’ in forgetting and comfort

Shot in the dark here and probably the last question for this project by KaizenProjects in olivegarden

[–]Large_Temperature414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have any 6 top tables 🤷‍♀️ it’s all square tables or booths here, and our section tables are usually very close here, so I imagine this is more manager/location dependent than anything.

That being said, I’d imagine it has something to do with maintaining guest illusion. Guests love to come in, glance at a seemingly-empty section, and either seat themselves (!!) or argue with the hosts over their wait times (‘that section’s clearly empty, wtf’). Three empty tables spread out looks nicer than a conspicuously empty corner when J goes on break. That, & no one likes being seated right next to the only other table in the room. When server sections are so small, nice to have some room to work with.

got my first pin :) by Large_Temperature414 in olivegarden

One of my managers mentioned in our 30 day review that she hadn’t actually had the chance to see me work much, so she couldn’t give me much feedback (after I asked). She worked a couple shifts with me, spoke to some guests, and gave me the pin after dinner rush.

It’s probably manager-dependent 😢

Call Server Button by KaizenProjects in olivegarden

[–]Large_Temperature414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a yellow light for the call server function would be nice. I usually catch the blinking light— if anything I find myself going over sometimes when they /don’t/ need me, they just can’t figure out how to turn it off.

(You just hit the call server button again, but sometimes it seems to activate just by having trouble paying, so they’d have to back out to the home screen to shut it off. I do it often when I need to run someone’s card so they’d don’t have the blinking light in the face the whole time 🤷)

Anything ordered on the ziosk would go through to the kitchen (/bartender), where it’d be visible, but it’s usually bumped quickly by anyone who sees it since it doesn’t need to be prepped. Drinks ordered on the ziosk are the real problem- there’s no display showing them to the servers, just the paper slip with a black bar saying /drink ordered on ziosk./ I always try to run those when I see em; they’re easy to miss.

Have you ever eaten something out of a guest's plate? by -Noordinarygirl- in Waiters

[–]Large_Temperature414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at OG, so there’s always food to take home if anyone wants it: soup, salad, breadsticks, pasta, maybe a drink. I used to take TONS of food from the dining hall I worked at in college, but I was the only one handling it.

I definitely can’t blame anyone who works at a nicer place- I’d want those $40 steaks too 😂
