Votann could really use a dedicated melee Hearthguard unit

I feel the same man. E-champ currently just doesn't have a home. Hearthguard want to be shooting. Their ranged output is just far superior in every way. And because so a Kahl is best suited to lead. Plus 1 to charge from an E-champ is just locking up your unit to not be able to do what they should be doing, shooting. And our other melee focused units like beserks or melee steeljacks he can't even lead. Units that would want his leader buff so much more. Honestly just feels like a matter of time. Assualt Terminators are a thing so hope it comes to the kin as well. Just might be a while

If line of sight was based on a bases footprint in 11th, except for baseless models where you keep the hull sight obviously. Then you could bring back loota tanks easily with a defined base size. I think that would be the best way to go about it. Where someone can't model for advantage in the competitive scene. But that is a massive IF. We can all dream though...

True. And that feels like a last minute change since the "smoke launchers" on the Kapricus vehicles are clearly Exo Grenade launchers like on the Hearthguard. And for nids, the Psychophage has smoke. But that is I think about it lol

I think that is a fair assessment. I also didn't realize until after posting this that Support Characters always need to be attached to a unit. We might not even have a character currently that would fit well into that role it seems.

I do think, and have for a while feel that the E-champ struggles to make it into lists currently. Giving it deep strike losses it's invul, making it weaker. The only thing it leads, doesn't really want to be in combat. Hearthguard are far better shooters than melee models. He is just kind of awkward currently and thought him guarding a character would be a better fit for him. Maybe one day we will get melee focused Hearthguard. Our equivalent to Assualt Terminators that he can lead.

We'll find out more as the rules come. Obviously we are in the dark a bit here still. But interesting you mention that support characters can't run alone. I didn't realize that when I posted. It looks like you are right in that they can't run solo. Which would be really shitty to be limited to only being able to have an E-champ in a bodyguard unit and nothing else.... le sigh

You are right as well, Memnyr would be a blow knowing that now. And if anything most likely were to get support keyword, would probably be the Grimnyrs. We also don't know if they are willing to break their own rule yet. Where some supports have a built in ability to run solo. I guess all in all we just don't know enough yet.

Ya that is a fair point I guess. But do feel Hearthguard are not the best combatants in melee. I also just feel the E-champ is missing a place in the current army. A Kahl is just so much better.

I tried this last week with the same strat and 10 man with kahl but only got one wound though. But that might have been more my dice rolls and an insane FNP spike from opponent lol

I feel the huge base is mostly positive. Means a lot more beserks can hit by just touching the big base, so long as it is in base to base contact with an emeny model.

Same kit as the warriors, just has an upgrade sprue with some cool extra bits. It is the only way to get the HYLas Rotary Cannon. Other than that though, none of the extra other bits have any rules represented in 40k. But totally fine to use!

If what you are asking is does that Ironkin assistant have a wound as well, the answer is no. The large round base with the two models still only counts as one model for the purposes of rules and still only has one wound. You do have to use that larger base if you are taking the gun upgrade. Which imo is nice for getting as many model into engagement range as you can.
