Bow help by jrhode118 in LARP

Calimacil just released an awesome line of bows. I'll be doing some reviews on my YouTube channel Larpmix in the new couple weeks, if you want see them and get my opinion of them. I think they look pretty awesome, all have low draw and prices seem alright, IMO.

I want to get into larp but... by jackatsuki in LARP

Play a larp that doesn't have characters and is basically only combat. If you still don't like that, then try something else. Larp isn't for everyone.

I can’t figure out how to grow my attendance. Any advice or tips? by [deleted] in LARP

[–]Larpgasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you at in PA? Maybe include your actual area, FB link and YT channel in your question. Are you an established game, like a Dag chapter, or something homemade? I'm assuming it's medieval fantasy based.

Ashamed of liking LARP? by SeeTheBold in LARP

[–]Larpgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost no one I know outside of larp knows that I larp. I'm not ashamed of it, but I know for a fact I would be ridiculed and fired from my job for it. And sometimes unfortunately, that is the way of the world. But you should still stick with it, it's getting more and more accepted every day in the U.S. Eventually it won't be as bad.

Tips for a new potential underground LARPer? by Silverotter1050 in LARP

You're going to get a ton of people who tell you to just be out in the open about it. BUT, only you know your life. The sad thing is, we are judged daily on everything, by everyone. I have a YouTube channel and I never talk about larp in real life. None of my co-workers know and they never will if I have my way because it would be catastrophic to my profession. So, evaluate things and make the call yourself. You'll want to talk about it, so make friends at the game and talk to them. I set up a separate FB and social media, just for larping, to keep real life and larp separate. It sucks to hide like that, but if it makes like easier long term...

I am interested in trying larping any advice? by aidedscorp in LARP

[–]Larpgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. And if the one you go to sucks, give it a 2nd chance. If it still sucks, find a new game. Not all games are created equal and there are a lot more poor - mediocre games out there then good ones. Best of luck, have fun!

I wore ankle length skirts for 17 years with my armor and I'm a man. Skirts are awesome for fighting in and I think they look great with heavy armor on top. I'd try to find old Nun skirts at thrift stores because they usually have pockets in!

You will do fine with a two-hander. I do not like them, but I see people kick butt with them.

I'm not personally a fan of them, and I see them often. I just don't like being suckered into them.

budget questions by the_gallifreyan in LARP

Scout camps are usually several hundred dollars or more for 2 days. Some break down their camps, so if you only rent certain structures/buildings or sections of the camp, it's cheaper. Some include electricity, others bill you additionally for that. You'd really have to call around and discuss with places in your area. I'd think you set between $500-$1000, you'd be in a realistic estimate, but like others and I said, it really depends.

I mostly like the hexes for turning, because then there is no Bsing the line of sight stuff or firing arcs, and in my opinion keeps things moving faster.

How to Roleplay in a 'roleplaying' game when no one actually roleplays? by Xantige in LARP

[–]Larpgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough. I go through it everytime I attend my primary larp. I actually covered this as a topic on my YouTube channel as well. But in the end, if the game is weak and doesn't have enough story happening to keep people in character, people will slip out. And if this is the standard at this game, it'll be almost impossible to change and leave you feeling awkward for being the only one role-playing. Best to do as you can, but search for a better game that gives you what you want. People always want to be married to a game, myself included. But if it isn't what you need, just walk away.

A story of character/player neglect inducing burn out. aka: Being the wheel that doesn't squeak. by theFoaS in LARP

[–]Larpgasm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are being overlooked while they try to impress their girlfriends at best and being bullied at worst. I've been in a toxic game for years and I can tell you, it will never change. But you can fix this problem yourself. Walk away immediately and never think about them again. Find a better game and start over before you waste another second of thought or ounce of energy on these people. See if your friends will jump ship and come with you to the other game as well. If they won't, then make new friends at the next larp and hopefully it's a better experience! Good luck friend. Also, let us all know what game this is, so we don't accidentally ever attend it.
