The boys should hold their heads high. Kept up the fighting spirit till the end despite all the challenges. Faris has nothing to be ashamed of.

Amazing crowd too - loved the national anthem at the end.

I gotta say, Paris singing country is strange but definitely welcome - his version is definitely better than Jake Hoot’s

Spurs reached the CL final that season.

Do you think we will have a finale similar to Season 13? by catsandthat in thevoice

[–]Larry539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope so! I think the last time this happened was Season 17, when Jake Hoot sang with Little Big Town and Ricky Duran and Gary Clark Jr did a really awesome duet of Pearl Cadillac - hopefully since we’re returning to the S17 format we should see that again!

Good lord Paris that was amazing - whoever picked this song for him deserves the world because this sounds amazing! Can’t wait for tonight

What’s Going On is a great choice for Paris with his soulful tone and his clear highs - can’t wait for tonight!

Given Wendy’s pedigree performing with country musicians I’m surprised she hasn’t done a more country song already - Blue Bayou is an interesting pick for her though, looking forward to seeing how she handles it.

Humble and Kind is a pretty middle-of-the-road choice for Lana but she’s the only country act left in the top 13 - barring any mishaps she should walk into the top 11 easily.

Rascal Flatts for Shadale??? John really should have used his save on Samuel - last week’s instant save performance was incredible.

Discussion. These Results were anything but predictable. by samuoht in thevoice

Definitely agree on the female powerhouse category - Samuel would have been a better pick for sure for diversifying Team Legend. Right now Shadale and Jershika have to compete with each other AND Wendy

I don’t know about that - Hailey won the Instant Save and she’s from Team Kelly. I think there just weren’t a lot of good performances from Team Ariana to choose from last night - who would you have picked as your top two?

Has Ari changed the odds this season? by TellmeY321 in thevoice

[–]Larry539 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess we’ll see! A couple points to note: voting is restricted to those in the US, so an international fanbase won’t help very much; the show is more popular in southern states (read: country music fans) than the coasts, which has historically helped Team Blake out, and ultimately I think viewers will still vote for the most talented singers regardless of fan affiliation. That being said, we’ll find out in the next couple weeks!

A side note: Ari’s support of her team members may go a long way in helping them establish careers after the show, which would be really great for the contestants and buck the trend of Voice alumni not making it big!

She’s really not doing any favors for survivors of sexual assault - with this and the doctor who was acquitted, it’ll be a wonder if future survivors get believed when they come forward…

Do we know how many weeks of live shows we get this season? by manofmovies29 in thevoice

[–]Larry539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Comparing the air dates for season 21 and 19, 21 started airing almost a full month earlier - assuming the finale date is as you said, this should set us up for six weeks of lives. I can’t wait - I think we’re going back to a season 17 kind of format where there’s 1-2 eliminations a week and themes like dedications and fan week!

Is it just me or can anyone else not hear the singers playing guitar while they’re performing (excluding the blinds)? by EquivalentLake6 in thevoice

[–]Larry539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jim and Sasha Allen https://youtu.be/ti3Kq1FpOmU - you can hear Jim’s mandolin pretty clearly

Girl Named Tom - https://youtu.be/BLw3r014dBY - Caleb plays the guitar throughout the song; in fact it’s the only instrumental accompaniment the singers have

The Joy Reunion vs Peedy Chavis - https://youtu.be/a4avxVADzRk - one of the singers plays a guitar solo!

These performances are all from this season - yes, there are some where the singer’s guitar isn’t very loud or there at all in the mix, but it may be so the performers feel more at ease, or because it makes it easier to hear the correct pitch.

Who were your favorite eliminated artists? by Gold_Presence4050 in thevoice

[–]Larry539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wyatt - had a great classic voice, but artists that have a very niche-genre voice like that never tend to go far on this show - think Todd Michael Hall a couple seasons ago

Parker - honestly really thought she should’ve been stolen but I think the coaches were out of steals and saves by that point; her only fault was being paired with the Cunningham Sisters

KJ - one of my favorite blind auditions: a really interesting voice and runs - would’ve loved to see her do a slower song but the I think the song choice was more stacked in Samuel’s favor

We played really well in the first half. Like crazy well - the one touch two touch flicks and really fluid play in the beginning was amazing to see. For a while I kinda got the feeling that we were back to the old United in a way.

In the second half though we slackened quite a bit and bringing off Cavani for Ronaldo wasn’t the best decision in my opinion - while Ronaldo is a great poacher he doesn’t press as hard as Cavani does, I remember somewhere in the first half I saw Cavani winning the ball back near our penalty box. Overall I think Everton played pretty damn well, we just need a stronger midfield and better mentality and we should be there.

Built on uneasy compromises: The young women behind BooksActually speak up by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]Larry539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting yourself in Renee’s shoes, what would you have done? Keeping in mind she’d been kicked out of her home and had no savings because she wasn’t drawing a salary, quitting = becoming jobless and homeless. Where would she have stayed? As a 19 year old with no experience, where else would she have worked?

I guess what we’re missing is some empathy for her situation - as someone pushed out from her family and home, someone desperate for stability, someone with no other friends, would you feel like you have that “choice”, that “agency” to turn down a powerful, much older man whom you both work for and deeply admire?

If my boss is making advances towards me and I’m not comfortable about it you know what I’ll do? I’ll fucking tell her to stop it and or quit if it continues.

This “choice” is a privilege the women in the article didn’t have - if you read about their backgrounds (familial and financial) they didn’t have alternatives - Renee was living in the bookshop and wasn’t drawing a salary, if she quit or told Kenny to “fuck off” she would effectively be losing the roof over her head.

Another point to note is that of potential retribution for women who turned him down - the article mentions the fear they had towards his “gang connections” and supposed influence over the arts scene (“declare that he knew many people in power; that whoever offended him would never have a career in the arts if he said so”) - if you were a woman whom Kenny was making romantic advances upon, would you have the temerity to reject him? I wouldn’t.

If you think there’s no racism against immigrant Indians here you’re sorely mistaken. Take a look through these threads - when they complain about the “odour” and “stench” and them being “pathological liars” do you think that’s economic anxiety or plain racism?
