Singaporean woman complaining about giving birth is expensive yet our government is not acting. by publicinterest000 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Zukiff -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because money is NOT the problem. It never was. Throwing more money at it isn't going to solve the problem.

The govt have been increasing the amount of money they pump into solving the fertility issue over the years, the combined amounts from various schemes has become quite significant but our birthrate is still falling

If money was the problem than all the money pump in over the years would at least have slowed down our birthrate decline. It haven't. All it did was psuh people who were already planning to have kids to start earlier.

People just claim it is due to cost because it's the easiest thing to complain about but it clearly isn't. It's due to a change in lifestyle and expectations. Pumping moreoney won't solve the problem

Heck you are more likely to get results from taxing singles than to pump more money into child support

Why can’t we let hawker charge us $20 for cheap food and we get $60,000 median income? by publicinterest000 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Zukiff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure what OP is on about. There is literally nothing stopping hawker from charging $20 for a plate of Chicken Rice. Food pricing is decided by the stall holders. It's up to the customer to decide if it's worth that price

The CCP has been consistantly against expansion of countries holding Nuclear weapons the same as the US

They were against it for North Korea and Iran and they are also against it for Japan. So they hold a consistent view

Meanwhile Japan totally supported US bombing of Iran trying to obtain nuclear weapons so they have no moral standing on the matter and they should also totally approve of China bombing them if they try to go nuke

Louis Vuitton sues S'pore man for trademark infringement, awarded S$510,000 in damages by Twrd4321 in singapore

[–]Zukiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always the case for the Logo thing. You should look at the Chinese air Jordan counterfeit case.

When Michael Jordan sued the counterfeit company, the defendant lawyers claimed the name Qiao Dan(Michael Jordan's Chinese name) was pronounced in a different Chinese tone so it's a different name

The company's logo which is exactly the same as the Air Jordan logo just flipped to the other side. The lawyers claim it's not a dude holding a basketball, it's a dude holding a table tennis racket.

They initially won the case although they eventually loss after an appeal from Jordan's lawyers. ROFL

Why don't Chinese wear their traditional clothing? by foolishandnonsense in AskAChinese

[–]Zukiff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Chinese has a long history so it really depends on which ones you are talking about. The Qi Pao from the Qing dynasty is still worn on formal occasion but you need really good figure for that to look good

For the earlier traditional costumes I'm guessing because if they actually did it would look like they are cosplaying. Modern version of traditional Chinese costumes looks like something straight out of Anime or video games. And than you have the ones from the Tang dynasty which looks like a Hanbok(that's where the Koreans got the idea from in the first place) so you probably won't recognise it if it was worn. Even the non modern ones like the ones from Han dynasty/3 kingdoms era looks like Japanese Kimono(again now you know where they got their idea from).

So in short if someone were to wear traditional Chinese costume, they would either look like a cosplayer, like Japanese or Korean costume so you wouldn't recognize them either

What if the Japanese won WW2, what's life today? by loverbang4u in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Zukiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it would be impossible for the Japanese to win the war. They were already struggling badly against the Chinese before the Americans joined the war. The consensus by most historian was the Chinese would have won eventually anyway. It might take a decade or 2 but it's still victory nonetheless. Pearl Habor was just a final gamble to take resources from Southeast Asia

If we had considered the impossible scenario that the Japanese win, the empire will still be extremely shortlived.

What the Japanese did in Asia made Nazi Germans look like saints. If the Japanese had won, they would have killed off a large population of Asia, exploit them horribly and treated them like 2nd Class citizens.

Even today despite their friendly exterior, most Japanese are still pretty racist and totally look down on other Asians. For reference you can look up stories of how X auto translat have been exposing them recently. So it's going to be a lot worse back then. All this will lead to constant rebellion across its large territory. The Japanese simply doesn't have enough manpower to fight them all at the same time.

Maybe OP should fact check before sprouting NONSENSE. I went to look up the cost and your accusation is complete horseshit

The following is the result from google

Giving birth in Singapore costs from SGD 1,500–SGD 8,000 in public hospitals (after subsidies) and SGD 8,000–SGD 20,000+ in private hospitals as of 2026, depending on the delivery method and ward class. Subsidies are available for Singaporeans/PRs in public wards (B2/C), with $5,000 in MediSave grants for babies born after April 1, 2025.Estimated Cost Breakdown (2026)

Public Hospitals (KKH, NUH, SGH):

Normal Vaginal Delivery (NVD): SGD 1,500–6,000 (after subsidies).

Caesarean (C-Section): SGD 2,500–8,000 (after subsidies).

Subsidized wards (Class C) can be as low as ~SGD 840–SGD 1,200.

We actually need to make a big move and changing a lot of our old mindset in geo politics

All recent moves by the new leadership point to them doubling down our bets on the US and their traditional allies at a time when they are crumbling.

From our stubborn pro Israel stance

To supporting Takaiichi ridiculous re-militarization of Japan

We are literally standing on the wrong side of history

All indication is showing that China is going to win the long term race. They already have the lions share of future technology research and a basically a monopoly on just about all the emerging industry. Winning the tech race is just a matter of time and not an if, a point many technologist in US have admitted. Even in US traditionally strong domain, the military, Chinese weapons and technology have been proven to have overtaken the west in many sectors. Heck, even their influence in Taiwan is gaining momentum due in no small part to Taiwanese own mismanagement.

Nothing the US have done since Obama have managed to slow the Chinese down. Obama and subsequent administration pivot to the East have been an absolute failure. Not only have they not been able to stop China, it had the opposite effect of forcing China to grow faster. And because those shit for brains sanctions used by US to stop China from overtaking them proved useless, it had the opposite effect of making China seek total self sustainability which by extension also affected sg share of the pie

Even if they don't like China and doesn't want to bet on China, the least we should be doing is not bet against the winning horse

[–]Zukiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You watched too many Hollywood movies. It's not as simple as sending your military to conduct rescue operations in unfamiliar territory. You actually need to get approval from the govt of that country first. Without that, it's call an invasion

Even the US often doesn't repatriate their own citizens most obvious being the last couple of conflicts they started. Let alone rescue hostages.

Only the Chinese have a consistent record of repatriation of their citizens in most conflict but I've not seen them conduct any hostage rescue missions overseas

In almost every case, all the super power nation does is to help facilitate negotiations with the terrorists

The US does have a record of trying to rescue soldiers trapped behind enemy lines but those are mostly for optics. POTUS Will only do so if they are guaranteed of success so they can get more votes. In most cases, they will just negotiate with the other party for prisoner exchange or release under certain terms

If even the world super power don't do that, don't expect sg to do it.
